Title: How long does it take you to read a novel?
ROb7177 - July 26, 2004 03:16 PM (GMT)
I started reading Valhalla Rising around 6:00 pm and finished it at 1:00am. It is extremley hard to put a CC book down. Do you guys feel the same way.. I have read the Med Caper and Iceberg as well and once i get started I just can't stop. Maybe a longer story?

I agree it is hard to put down a Cussler. I have read every book I think. The best part of reading them is starting over and reading them again. I re-read them again and found they were even better the second time around.I thought my favorite was Vahalla Rising untill I read Sahara. I just ordered May Day which I can't remember reading. It may have been just a new jacket and I just didn't remember it, anyway I don't care if I have read it because I'll just read it again! w:

I agree that older CC books are hard to put down. The last 3 have been hard to pick up really. :(

I feel the same way. Makes me feel so disloyal though!

The length of time it takes me to read a CC novel is directly proportional to the number of jobs my wife comes up with when I'm reading. The more jobs she comes up with the longer it takes to finish the book.

Obviously your hiding spot for reading books needs reviewing. If you alternate between several hiding spots, they'll still find you, but it will take them longer. cop:
Back to the subject ... I'll usually knock over a Cussler book in about a week. Any sooner than that and I feel I lived the adventure with Dirk and Al too quickly.
Cheers ... p:

w: Depending, but usually 6 to 8 hrs. About a week later I'll reread it at a slower pace. Then, I go crazy waiting for the next one to be published. :P

A Cussler novel is kind of like a fine wine. You can gulp it down in a hurry, and it will be okay. But it really sparkles if you take the time to savour it and enjoy it.
That being said, I usually go though one reasonably quick, but then immediately reread it to catch the subtle things I may have overlooked the first time though.

tyler_null - July 27, 2004 07:49 PM (GMT)
It usually takes me about a week to a week and a half. I depends on much homework i have to do at night. :P
tonym5 - July 29, 2004 06:45 AM (GMT)
i savour it and usually start reading about 7 or 8 pm or in between until the wife gets home from work. so i average 40 to 80 pages depending if i don't catnap. and sometimes i will read later after she's asleep.
Mandasy123 - July 29, 2004 06:49 AM (GMT)
Usually 3 weeks to a month but...
if i'm really looking forward to the book then a few days

Seven hours!!!!! And I thought I read them fast. Usually a week or two for me, but I've read Valhalla Rising in a weekend, same with one or two others, but I can't remember which. <_<
Dagaz - September 26, 2004 08:35 AM (GMT)
it depends on alot of varriables.
the length
the author
the Genre
if it's interesting
if i have time
if it is a classic
if it needs reading more carefully such as Beowulf
if i have read it before
the average old school cussler i can have read in a day
it's harder for me to get into the newer ones
an average david eddings i can read in 7-8 hours less if i have read it before
i read lirial and Abhorsen in about 8 hours each.
now most of these times are fragmented. like it would take me several days because iu have to keep stopping but if i addu p the time and read it all in one shot that is about my estimate.

I can usually read a new cussler book in two evenings if I don't keep getting interupped. I always re-read then in a about a month to see if I missed anything. I always find something else, or think of it in a different way. Can't wait for Black Wind. w:
katiepoppycat - November 9, 2004 03:45 PM (GMT)
looks like i'm a complete freak then. It takes me about 2 hours to read an average paperback novel with little or no interruption. Order of the Phoenix took me 5 hours. But a month or so on i can reread and still really enjoy it, even if i know what's coming. :P
Kellym - November 9, 2004 04:53 PM (GMT)
:o 2 hours?
Wow my hat goes off to you, Katie kel:
BTW welcome to the forum!

My fastest "record" of reading a paperback was 36 hours (Dan B's Angels & Demons) - including damned sleep yike:
I read Vixen and Nite Probe in about 2 days each.
My normal pace (during, say, the summer holidays when I have lots of time for reading) is a book per week, sometimes one in four days if I'm REALLY hooked.
Rudi_Gunn - November 18, 2004 11:28 AM (GMT)
i can usually read a book in about 2-4 hours when i read a book i visualize the book as a movie in my head(thats why the movie Raise the Titanic greatly disappointed me nothing like the movie in my head).
OkieMan - January 24, 2005 06:17 PM (GMT)
I must be a lot slower reader than most of the people around here. It usually takes me about five days to finish a novel. Of course, I usually have two or three of them going simultaneously. ...
LdyStacie - February 23, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
I have Dylexia so it usually takes me a week or so to read a full novel, however the Left Behind serries takes me about 2 days each book to read. Same with Clive Cussler, However I set a record for myself with Pacific Vortex, I read it streight through from 10 PM last night to 9:30 AM this morning. I did this so that I could try to see if I could enter the contest on this website. I hadn't read it before and my hubby bought it for me last night.
It takes my Hubby can read two novels in a day if he reads non stop. Of course he had a speed reading class in grade school.
