Description: order

Being that I am new to the the club please forgive my ignorance , but I am wondering ? Is there any specific order in which to read the pitt novels . I started out by reading Atlantis found when I went to Cal. on a business trip with my wife, once I started I could not put it down since then I have read, Fire ice, Sea hunters ,Vahalla rising ,Shock wave, and now i am reading Flood tide. As you can see i have jumped around a bit and i don't want to miss anything .

Well the obvious was is to start from the beginning.. But I don't know, i never read them in an order... Partly because i only got like 1 at a time and some i couldn't get.. I don't know but as long as i read em all i'm fine.. Actually i'm lieing i still ahven't read a couple of them
WNG-A-Pitt - February 29, 2004 04:05 AM (GMT)
Oh, speaking of newbie questions i'm confused on this part
What is the difference between the ranks of Dirk Pitt and Kurt Austin.. Of course before Dirk becomes head of NUMA B)
motorcycleress - February 29, 2004 06:55 AM (GMT)
I read them all out of order. i think when i read them all then, i'll reread them in order. then the whole Maeve and Summer sequence would have made sense.

The rough chronilogical order is the same as the publication order. Clive sometimes makes a refrence to the previous novel's events, and I've noticed that more and more in the newer novels. (Though I think all of them have some sort of refrence)
Tri-Motor - February 29, 2004 03:02 PM (GMT)
I don't think that there is a difference in Kurt's and Dirk's rank. They're both like project managers, you can have more than one at a time.
I never read all the books in order, I started with Cyclops, or Deep six, I honestly can't remember!

Papa Jim,
Thanks for the list of the books in order of reading. I've been meaning to figure that out so I can lend the books in the right order to my little cousins.

Thank you, PapaJim!
I am embarassed to admit that I did not know about "Mayday".
Yes to the original question--I think you should read them in order.
Doc C. pulls the Hitchcock/Stephen King--he takes a 'walk on' in his novels, and there are references to earlier plots.
"Y'all" have me so enthused, I think I'll go back and start re-reading all the books. Maybe then I can get the time to get to Atlantis...Valhalla...and Trojan.

ive been looking for some type of order in the series. i knew about pacific vortex being his first written book. It was somewhat strange reading valhalla rising and then reading pacific vortex right after it.. in reference to his wife anyway. If you have read both you will know what i am talking about.
just wanted to say thanks to oldpapajim for the list!

Way back when I lived by myself I figured out Dirks age and his sign.
The only book that gives us his age is Iceberg,Jerome P Lilly tells him while having Dirk shove a screwdriver into his ear.
So working on the assumption that Clive was right and this was his real age I worked backward from that point and came up with a birthdate of Nov 22 1954.
Dirks birthday makes him a Sagittarius but his birth is so close to that of Scorpio that he is said to be "on the cusp",so that he shares the characteristics of both signs.Sagittarius is the sign associated with long journeys, better than average health and people born under this sign are somehow always in the right place at the right time.
Scorpio has extreme likes and dislikes,he is a fierce competitor and he attacks people and situations. He can also be aroused to great anger but also to great kindness and sensitivity.Scorpio men exude sexual power.A Scorpio is also ingenious, creative,a true friend and a dangerous enemy.
All of these traits apply to Dirk.
Sorry if it appears to be a little clinical but I just copied it from a book that I wrote a few years ago.It was my intention to write a Clive Cussler Companion but Clive beat me too it so it has sat on my shelf ever since.
Cheers Rob
