Since Cussler 's mother named him after a British actor named Clive Brook, whose roles include Sherlock Holmes, I was curious about the roles and found the following information at:

There was no doubt in Summer's mind. She took care of Adrian and then lured me onto the beach where she tried to pump me full of poison. It was only after she found herself in my apartment, that it began to dawn on her that she'd made a terrible mistake. My first hint came when she addressed me as Captain. And later, you yourself supplied the clincher when you admitted to having an informant. Two and two went together: the answer was Cinana. All in all, very elementary. Pacific Vortex

"A step-by-step process," Pitt replied. "I called your wife in Washington, and she said you were on a business trip to Leisure World. Since it's only a few miles from here, I checked with the guard at the gate. He told me he had admitted a Gene Seagram who was okayed for entry by a Mrs. Bertram Austin. She in turn mentioned she had recommended the Balboa Bay Club when you stated a desire to postpone your flight back to Washington and lay over until tomorrow. The rest was easy."
"I should feel flattered by your persistent style."
Pitt nodded. "All very elementary."
Raise the Titanic

"Elementary reasoning," Giordino said loftily. "Me, I'd be more inclined to camouflage the barge under a grove of trees, hide it inside an enclosed waterfront warehouse, or alter the exterior to look like a giant chicken coop or whatever. Seems to me concealment is the logical way to go."
Deep Six

"You make it sound as elementary as a tonsillectomy," said Oates.
Deep Six

"You make a good case," O'Meara admitted. "But you left the door open to a moot question. Why didn't Gottschalk simply kill Sigler after he found the statue? Why keep the Englishman alive?"
"Elementary. The consul general was consumed by gold fever. He wanted La Dorada and the emerald city too. Sigler was the only person alive who could give him directions or lead him there."
"I like the way you think, Dirk. Your wild-assed theory calls for another drink."
Cyclops

"You don't mean the little Mexican fellow in the copilot's seat?"
"I do."
Simon looked totally skeptical. "What brilliant logic brought you to that conclusion?"
"Elementary," Pitt said with a sly grin. "The killer in the best murder-mystery tradition is always the least obvious suspect.
Treasure

Keegan followed a trail that ran along Hanging Woman Creek. He never knew where the name came from. The only woman he recalled being hanged in Wyoming was Ella Watson, known as "Cattle Kate."
Dragon

"You figured it out," said Nogami.
Pitt made a modest hands-out gesture. "Your clues made it elementary. There is no St. Paul's Hospital in Santa Ana, California. But there is a Saint Paul's Cathedral in London."
Dragon

Kazim walked over to a welt-stocked bar and helped himself to a cognac. "So how do you suggest we handle Dr. Hopper and his staff?"
"You are the expert in these matters," Massarde said with oily charm. "I leave it to your skills."
Kazim lifted a smug eyebrow. "Elementary, my friend. I simply eliminate the problem they came to solve."
Sahara

You've done it," Giordino said stoically. "Artistic license, elementary logic, idle living, sex appeal, it's all there."
Shock Wave

Maeve gave him a look of utter skepticism. "Move on?" She glanced at Giordino for moral support, but he gave her a you-never-learn look and continued nibbling on his mackerel. "We have two badly damaged boats that can't sail across a swimming pool. Just what do you suggest we use for our all-expenses-paid cruise to no. where?"
"Elementary, my dear Fletcher," he said expansively. "We build a third boat."
Shock Wave

Pitt studied the image on the monitor over Linda Ross's shoulder. "If you don't mind me asking, just how do you intend to trash a heavy destroyer?"
"My plan, elementary as it is, is for the Oregon to come to a stop when ordered. Then comes a demand to board and inspect us. Once we sucker him into standing off within spitting distance, we act like innocent, ill-tempered seamen while they observe us at close range. Once the Chinese boarding party climbs on deck, we'll lull the captain even deeper into a state of inertia by lowering our Iranian ensign and raising the People's Republic of China flag."

Very recented movies.

That's interesting, the recurring theme about Sherlock Holmes. Maybe Dirk is related....

"Someone has been doing some mining," Zavala said.

"Nice call, Sherlock." Austin picked up a jackhammer, attached to a portable compressor, that had been lying on the ground near the entrance.

Zavala's sharp eyes examined the charred rubble around the hole. "Okay, Watson. Someone did a little blasting here too."
