Title: Cussler News ... Bonhomme Richard
Description: Search Update

whitbycolin - August 6, 2004 09:52 PM (GMT)
I do not need to explain the beginnings of NUMA and its inaugural search for the wreck of the "Bonhomme Richard" to all die hard Clive Cussler fans. However I hope that my first posting in this part of the forum does not appear out of place.

Living in the UK and based in Whitby I am fortunate to have the grace to see the familiar shape of the good ship "Ocean Dancer". This is the vessel that Clive chartered last year in his search for the elusive wreck. Once again this year our small fishing town paid homage to the vessel as it made its way in and out every few days.

I was lucky enough to have began a course of correspondence with Clive over the winter months and eagerly awaited his return. I am really pleased that I had the opportunity to meet both Clive and his son Dirk on a number of occasions whilst they were here and found that we have a great deal in common!

Sorry for going on a bit but die hard fans will understand. Anyway to the update. After Clive's departure a couple of weeks ago it was down to Dirk to oversee the searches and when the vessel docked this morning (UK time), I was in a good position to meet Dirk and he was able to tell me that although they located a number of possible locations they were not to be that of the Bonhomme Richard.

Dirk leaves the UK in the morning and has indicated that they might be back next year.

Patience, Persistince and, just plain stubburness will win out. The Doc will find it someday.

It looks like the good Dr. C. will have some competition in the search. I was reading in the Navy Times that the U.S. Navy is planning to do a search for the BHR in 2006. Or will he try to coordinate the search effort with them? w:

I don't think CC is involved in this new effort...

All of the die-hard Cussler fans here are siding with Clive to find this wreck. It would be a shame if anyone else found it after all the time he has put into it.. yike:

Like anything lost at sea or elsewhere, it will be found when the time is right and not set by man. Like a good treasure, it will reveal itself to man on it's own schedule. This old pirate knows from first hand experience! p:

I hope it's found soon...it would be an amazing find, no? I wish I could be on a team looking for it (or any other ship for that matter!!) :)

Another reason to lament not having real cable in my apartment. Too bad it's not on national television, or TBS or WGN. :o

quetico1 - November 13, 2005 01:45 PM (GMT)
yea its too bad it does not get on regular tv..they should put them on dvd or something...it was a good show ..it was the first sea hunters episode ive seen where CLIVE actually stayed on for the 2 months of the search..it must be real importaint....best part of the episode was CLIVE getting into a argument with the rest of the crew...of course he was right in the end....

in the end CLIVE said:

"i always said if i find 2 shipwrecks in my life ill die happy ..ive found one{the hunley} now i need to find the other"

Then we can only hope that Dr. Cussler will be with us for awhile. We hope you find it but don't go anywhere after you do.
