Never been out to the ocean or seas a lot. I have lived on the beach though, but not quite the same thing.
My dad however tells a different story. He was a 15 year old lad from Finland when he forged his fathers signature to join a foreign merchant ship in the 1940's. Than for Chrismas that year he sent his family a post card from halfway up the Congo river to let them know where he was and that he was ok. He was too afraid of his father to let him know sooner!!
While in Africa, him and his cabin mate smuggled aboard two monkeys of some sort, named them Shampagne and Cognac, and had them around for awhile, but to this day I dont know what happend to them... hopefully they werent thrown overboard out at sea!?!?
Then he also tells me of the stories of when he was 16 when his whole crew was drunk as skunks, and he was left in charge of the ship, and a massive storm hit. There he was all alone, in charge of a merchant ship, with a crew of drunkards, and massive storm causing hell!
Dad was also a navy diver. Diving ocean mines into place and underwater explosives, during his national service in Finland.
Never thought of this before, but myabe this is why enjoy Cussler and Pitt novels so much, they remind me of my fathers stories! (With out the italian sidekick though!)
Wow Marribiuz that is amazing, I bet you heard some of the most amazing stories growing up th:
Yeah I heard some great ones! They usually started: Back in my day kids.....
Honsetly, yeah i really enjoy hearing dad tell his stories, I have even talked to him about allowing me to write down his stories into a book. He agreed to it, now I just got to find the time to go through all of them with him chronologically, and take notes on it all.
This is one book that I would take great pride in writing. I have two others on the way that are just hobbies for me, but one about my father would require my best efforts.
I think that is a great idea th:
Cool stories and a great idea.
