Title: Kurt Austin : Who does he resemble?
Description: how do you picture him?
DirkPitt - August 19, 2004 06:03 AM (GMT)
We all have our own image of Dirk Pitt set in our minds. Hugh Jackman, Tom Selleck etc.
But what about Kurt Austin? ... Lets see what everyone comes up with.
I'll start off with Dolph Lundgren. Until someone steers me in a better direction, I'll stick with him :P
hiramyaegar - August 19, 2004 11:58 AM (GMT)
I would say Mark Harmon, but his shoulders are too narrow.
boissee - August 19, 2004 12:36 PM (GMT)
This guy isn't too well known, but when I think of Austin, I think of him. He was in Manhunter (The orginal make of Red Dragon). He's on CSI now I guess, I don't watch it.
William L. Petersen

Harmon, she already commented on Petersen :P

I've always imagined Austin resembling John O'Hurley, who's main "claim to fame" was the role of J. Peterman on the TV show
Seinfeld (One of Foss' favorite sitcoms).
Loren - August 20, 2004 05:57 PM (GMT)
Foss...we have something in common..Seinfeld was my favorite too, still catch the reruns. Too bad the Soup Nazi has black hair
What about this pic of J Peterman
Foss Gly - August 20, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
See? He's got a good look!
And I always liked him in Seinfeld, his performance was so deadpan, it was great.

It said in 'Serpent's' foreword by Dirk Pitt that Kurt is a few years younger than him (late 30's) "and althought it pains me to say it, women find him better looking." said by Pitt himself. Not that Pitt is unattractive (I call it as I see it), but that criteria leads me to believe that Austin could be played by like Johnny Depp, or maybe uh... Keanu Reeves? On this note, I could see Zavala played by Benjamin Bratt, or Raymond Cruz (both were in 'Clear and Present Danger'). I wish I could put their pictures here but I don't know how.

The wife says Neal McDonough of Medical Investigation to play Kurt Austin. :)
Loren - October 22, 2004 05:21 PM (GMT)
Tonym5, can you post a pic of him? w:
Tommy - October 25, 2004 12:14 AM (GMT)
I`m thinking Lou Diamond Phillips as Joe Zavala. As for Kurt Austin, maybe James Marsten ( he played Spike on Buffy the Vampire Slayer). w:

Hey Hey th: that's pretty good!
cudailike - November 17, 2004 11:54 PM (GMT)
i always thought of a white haired version of the dirk pitt on the cover of The Mediterainian(cant spell :P ) Caper, although i never thought Dirk to look anything like that
Ta16uva - March 22, 2005 02:22 PM (GMT)
I'd personally have to go with William Devane (James Heller on 24)! :P

There he is!

I just think he seems a tad too old for Kurt...but maybe not
householdrob - March 24, 2005 10:35 PM (GMT)
you all must not be reading close enough if you think that dude looks like Kurt. First you need to cut off about 20 years, then add about 70 more pounds of muscle and better looks, then you might be a little closer to looking like Kurt. Oh, and about 5 or 6 inches on top to. Maybe I'll draw a picture of what I think he looks like, dogsledding through DC or something. snor:

:P How about Steve Martin in one of his serious moments? beer:
Giordino13 - March 28, 2005 01:30 AM (GMT)
Maybe if he didn't have white hair :P :P

I'm with you householdrob! They all look really old and sort of skinny to be Kurt. I think the description of him with the platinum blonde hair that's almost white always makes it seem like he's older than he is.
Ta16uva - March 30, 2005 11:19 PM (GMT)
Still gotta stick with William! p:

That's what I love about this forum...how we all have different ideas of what in our minds each character looks like....hehehe can you imagine if we were in charge of casting??

I always imagine Kurt to look like the pilot of the Independence in the movie Armageddeon (the pilot that is piloting A.J.'s and Bear's ship to the astroid). I think the fact that he is already in military gear with a crew cut and greying hair is what really cements it for me. I think the actor's name is Marshall Teague. I tried to find some pictures, but his recent work just doesn't fit the decription in my head.
pmkane - April 13, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
I've always pictured this guy when reading the NUMA files books . . . his name is Neal McDonough, who is currently on NBC's Medical Investigation.

He also played "Buck" in Band of Brothers
tonym5 - June 7, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Wow. He could definitely play Kurt! I had fogotten what he looked like. I had seen only a couple of episodes of the show.
13thMonkey - July 13, 2005 08:57 AM (GMT)
for some stupid reason..... I have a mental image of...... Russell Crowe in Master and Commander...
but I think one person who fits the profile is ex-NFL footballer.... Howie Long.... he was in Broken Arrow (with Travolta and Slater)... also made a movie called Firestorm... put some white hair on him... and there you go !!!
(p.s... can't find a decent picture)
Als_Pal - July 13, 2005 01:20 PM (GMT)
I could see Howie Long in that role. Good one.
Foss Gly - July 19, 2005 03:56 AM (GMT)
I have to agree, Howie Long could fill the part quite well...

And I agree with
Kel, I love the fact that all of our minds have a different mental picture of the same character.
