Title: An Interesting Theory
Description: a theory concerning the books
Dagaz - March 3, 2004 01:04 AM (GMT)
Ok, here's the theory that my mother came up with and so far everyone i've ever asked it holds ture for, except for one person.
Theory: The First Dirk Pitt Novel You Ever Read Becomes Your Favorite of all Time.
i think that it would be interesting to find out how many people this hold true for and how many people it doesn't.

Titanic was the first one I read, but my favorite is Sahara, followed closely by Cyclops and Valhalla. It's hard to choose, because I like em all.
slowhandshodges - March 3, 2004 02:31 AM (GMT)
Strike three! My first was Titanic, but my faves are Night Probe, followed by Iceberg and Treasure and Sahara and....
LorenSmith - March 3, 2004 04:43 AM (GMT)
Strike again. My first was Mediterranean Caper and my faves are Night Probe, Vixen 03 and Cyclops.
PS. I guess first books are not like first loves!!!!!:-)
jet_doctor - March 3, 2004 05:52 AM (GMT)
Well, my first book was Sahara and it is my favorite. However, after reading the others, even if I hadn't read it first, it would still be my favorite. :)
AlGiordino - March 3, 2004 09:20 AM (GMT)
Mine was atlantis found and its ma favourite, so...
pac - March 3, 2004 11:12 AM (GMT)

Foss Gly - March 3, 2004 08:06 PM (GMT)
While Sahara is my fave, I read Raise The Titanic first....
BillyYuma - March 3, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Cyclops was my first, Sahara and perhaps Valhalla, my favorites (so far), but as they are all, in effect, a series, they should perhaps be considered as a whole...
regards,
Martyn

My first was Vixen 03. It remains my favorite, tied with Night Probe.

Hey, I agree with wannabe.....my three favorites are Cyclops, Vixen 3, and Night Probe. My first Cussler novel was Deep Six, which I bought for 25 cents in a library clearance sale.
Marribiuz - March 4, 2004 08:56 AM (GMT)
HI, my first one was Inca Gold, but fy favorite is Sahara.
Try this new theory; it seems to be a more valid hypothesis considering the posts so far:
"Ones favorite CC book, is Sahara, especailly if its their first CC read"
Nic0demus - March 4, 2004 12:51 PM (GMT)
Favorite: Either Sahara or Atlantis Found...Atlantis Found would be my first...but i really can't make a distinction between all of Clive's work as favorite...
BlueChrome - March 4, 2004 02:10 PM (GMT)
Well, I'll toss in my 2 cents...
My first: Raise the Titanic, then I went back and read the earlier novels.
My Favorite??? "Treasure", then "Inca Gold"..but I have yet to read "Atlantis Found" and "Valhalla Rising". Just not enough hours in the day....
I haven't really been able to get warmed up to any of Clive's books without Dirk!!Anyone else have this dilemma???

Right, my first wuz Shock Wave Fav is Dragon! Another Strike
Helene Noelle - March 7, 2004 01:23 AM (GMT)
The first CC book I read was Inca Gold and it is still my favorite.
The first book I read in the Kurt Autin adventure series was Fire Ice. I kept imaging Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino in the roles of Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala instead of accepting the new duo.
I then read the other three books, and the characters in the Special Assignments Team began to grow a "little" on me. I was really excited when Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino encountered Kurt Austin and Joe Zavala at NUMA in Serpent, and then again in Trojan Odyssey.
But in the end, I must confess that there is only one all time favorite pair for me---Dirk Pitt and Al Giordino!
Joe Rogan - March 9, 2004 05:30 PM (GMT)
My first DP adventure was Iceberg, and it is still my favorite, theory holds up 50/50
Maeve - March 9, 2004 10:00 PM (GMT)
I think I read Raise the Titanic first - it was a long time ago!
And I don't really have a favourite though I do think the stories have been getting better over the years.
Isn't it interesting that so many like Sahara so much - must be why they picked that one for a movie. Have to admit I haven't read it in years, might be time for a reread...
BlueChrome - March 9, 2004 10:12 PM (GMT)
I have enjoyed perusing all the 'testimonials'--wonder what Doc C. would think! :D
In response to 'Maeve'--your'e right. I have really been longing to go back and re-read ALL. I did not care for 'Sahara' as much as the others, (which I know will bring me negative feedback!) and I was rather shocked when I found out about the movie...it's OK, I will take any CC movie!
Over the weekend, I did find myself wandering to the bookshelf to find my copy of Mediterranean Caper! I guess my leisure time goal will be to re-read all the books too.
I appreciated OldPapaJim's list--I printed it out for future reference.
Great site--I am enjoying it.

Raise the Titanic was my first Cussler book, but Night Probe is my favorite.
Donpo - March 10, 2004 08:06 PM (GMT)
Having read them all I am really having a hard time picking out a favorite. <_<
I have found though that usually the first book I read is usually the one that gets me hooked. Then I just keep waiting for the next one.
I have noticed though that Clive seems to be getting slightly outrageous on some of the fixes Dirk gets into and out of. Won't stop me from reading though.
NUMA_Diver - March 10, 2004 08:15 PM (GMT)
Donpo, Welcome to the site. Its great to have another fan onboard. My first book was Iceberg...wayyy back when I first got hooked on Cussler. I do believe I will have to say that Inca Gold is ranking as my favorite, at least this year. Take care and again, Welcome.

Not at all for me. For some reason i cant choose my favorite one. The only ones i was a little iffy on was iceberg, mediterranean caper, and the most recent one (name slipping my mind  ). Even the iffy ones i loved though :)
nx2nothing - March 15, 2004 04:54 AM (GMT)
Sahara was my favorite but the first was not Sahara heck I don't remember which one was first. I agree that Dirk and Al have a certain chemistry that Kurt and Joe have yet to develop. Frankly I think as a young girl I was in love with Dirk but Loren had to get him. Oh no I was in love with a fictional character. man I should shut up before someone laughs.
austin dirkie - March 15, 2004 11:52 AM (GMT)
The first book I read was Iceberg. And my favorite is...........................yes..................ICEBERG.
But...........Al Giordino is not there. I would love it better if he was there. He was in the other books but Iceberg.
Dagaz - March 16, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)

my favorite is Vixen 03 an it was my first cussler book---but i sure like Night Probe alot too
DirkPitt - March 19, 2004 05:45 PM (GMT)
The book, "Lost City" by Cussler and Kemprecos will be released in August.
Sahara the movie will be released later this year unless court action prevents it. If Crusader continues the Dirk Pitt series, they intend to produce 2 more movies. The word is "Night Probe" and "Inca Gold"
Cheers
Leigh Hunt - March 19, 2004 05:12 PM (GMT)
My First Book Was believe it or Not Paciffic Vortex which i read in 1990. It was Acually the first Dirk Pitt Book CC wrote but shelved it, and reissued it later as the Sixth...so it doesnt have the connections to the other Books as CC often has in His Novels.
Just by chance I was in a used books store and I came across it...and It is My Favorite , not so mich for the Story, which I do Love, but the fact it got Me reading all His other Novels(which Ive read in order right up to Trojan Odyssey(which I havent finished)
Ive also read all The Kurt Austin Books, which I enjoyed and I am warmong up to More and More.I really enjoyed White deathl
I have Most of His Books except for:
Vixen 03
Night Probe
Deep Six
Trojan Odyssey
Sea Hunters II
Blue Gold
White Death
I plan on getting these soon to complete My CC Library
Has Anybody read Golden Buddah...CC's New Oregon Files Series?
Im excited about the New Movie, and Hope they make Them all into Movies. If done right I think They All Would Be really exciting Adventure Movies
DirkPitt - March 19, 2004 05:29 PM (GMT)
Welcome Leigh Hunt !!
You'll be warming up even more in August 2004 when the new Kurt Austin adventure, "Lost City" is released.
Cheers
Leigh Hunt - March 19, 2004 05:39 PM (GMT)

Lets see I read Raise The Titanic first but out of all of the books I would have to say my fav is Shock Wave then Sahara,
But they are all so good it's hard to pick one over the other.
Wonderful site by the way.

I read Raise the titanic first (as it seems to be for a lot of people ) it was and still is my favorite close second night probe .
Recently replaced my original R T because it was rather dog eared I've lent that out so many times over the years to new readers it always comes back a little worse for wear. :D
hiramyaegar - March 22, 2004 10:06 PM (GMT)
Don't know. I can't remember what my first was. If it was Iceberg, then no. If it was Raise the Titanic! then maybe.
tonym5 - March 23, 2004 06:15 AM (GMT)
In 1982 after leaving the army I came back to dayton and soon as I got off the bus I bought a sandwich at roy rogers then went to wilkies bookstore and bought cussler's Night Probe. I had seen his books before at bookstores and sales. the next month I bought the rest of his books at the planned parenthood book sale (largest in the midwest). yes Night Probe stands out as one of the best of cussler books but also love Cyclops, Shock Wave, Valhalla Rising, Atlantis Found, Sahara
Kellym - March 24, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
Another strike - Sahara was my first but not my fav
