Title: Reading in order
Description: what do you think

Like I've said before, I'm very new to Cussler but I'm reading quick to catch up. When I bought the first few books it took me a while to find Med. Caper and someone at the bookstore told me I didn't need to read any of them in order. I'm on Deep Six now and I think I would have kicked myself had I not read them in order.

My question is can you skip around and read out of order with any of his series and how has everyone else read his books.

welcome EO171. I read most of my books in order only because I was always ready for the new one to come out. It helps to have read the books in order to understand some of the referances in some of the books, but if you don't you'll understand it when you read that story. w:

I read them out of order, but they still made sense. Whatever works for you is fine, I guess.

Very few people here on the forum has read the books in order.I first started reading Dr. C in 1982. :)

I was lucky enough to discover Clive Cussler right after the release of Pacific Vortex. As an adventure starved kid, high on Indiana Jones and James Bond, I was just starting to build a library of thrillers. When I saw PV at the supermarket, I immediately robbed mom's wallet and picket it up. I still remember reading the descriptions of the other Dirk Pitt novels in the bonus section at the end (Night Probe had just been released in hardcover) and thinking "Holy Cow, there's a series of these? Cool." It didn't take long to hunt down the other four books in paperback, and while I don't remember right now whether I actually read them in the correct order, I think I came pretty darn close.
After that, whenever a new DP came out, I would go back and read them all again in correct order, a practice that I had to discontinue sometime around the release of Flood Tide, for obvious reasons.

I didn't get to read the books in order, simply because of the fact that I could only get one or two at a time at first, since I discovered most of the novels for sale at a local used book shop.
And I'm none the worse for wear for reading out of order. Well, I don't think...!

I only started reading Cussler in October last year (I thought September but was mistaken  ) and I didn't get to read them all in order and it didn't really make a difference they were still great reads and you notice the books that are refered to when you read those books.

I have now started re-reading them but in order this time ;)

When I first found Cussler I would read them no matter what order I could get them in. Now that I have them all I have read them all in order. I don't think that it makes that much difference. Each book is strong by itself. There isn't much where one book references something previous.

The first book I read was Dragon, and the rest I sort of read in order, but it was an issue of availability so I read whatever book I could find upon completion of the previous. I didn't screw the whole story up or anything, I thought. Cheers, and keep reading! t: b:

My first novel was Shockwave, which is still one of my favorites. My next thought was: "Wait, there's more of these books?!"

I next read Atlantis Found, then Valhala, then realized that i should try to read them in the 'correct' order. My father told me that i should read Pacific Vortex first, because it's technically the first story. I have since re-read all of them, and just finished Trojan Odessy. (i purchased it when it came out, but needed to catch up.)
Eagerly (and patiently) awaiting Black Wind.
I also need to start on the Kurt Austin Books as well. snor:

I red the books in order. Now I can wait until a new book comes out. But I think it's not a problem to non read the books in order. Take a book which you find interesting. ;)

If a person already had all of them they could read them in order. Otherwise, I never thought reading them in order was that big a deal! ...

Read them in order four different times now. Just finished Black Wind and reread Sahara in order to see what they "reconstructed" for the movie version (having been stung by the movie RTT, I'm keeping an open mind this time out). Probably I'll start the "in order" thing this summer, after I reread my Dale Brown series in order again. :)
