1-No idea

2-Zachary Taylor

3-Whitelaw

tonym5 - October 10, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
Eol I will give you number 3 because you have Whitelaw Reid's first name. Still waiting for someone else to come up with the answers for the other two questions.

Sapper - October 11, 2004 02:02 PM (GMT)
2. He didn't have Vice President?

Empress - October 11, 2004 04:25 PM (GMT)
I'm with Sapper on #2, he didn't have one because he lost the election. When he was the 13th(?) president he wasn't elected then either so no VP

tonym5 - October 11, 2004 06:55 PM (GMT)
I will give it to Sapper for #2.

tonym5 - November 20, 2004 12:06 AM (GMT)

Sugar Walls was sung by Sheena Easton yike:

The Minotaur had the body of a man with the head of a bull.

Question#3. Who did Sam Houston defeat at Gilead for the independence of Texas?

Sorry Tony I just read these. #3 Should have been, if I'm not mistaken, asked in a different way. There was a battle at "Goliad" fought but it was Sam Houston defeating Santa Anna at San Jacinto that won Texas their independence.

If I remember correctly The Battle at Goliad was were the Mexican troops slaughtered the Texans.

Let me know what your history book says!!!! Your Friendly neighborhood Texan co:

I have a few questions to add:

1. Who was the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court?

2. Who was the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court? (This should be an easy question).

3. Related to the second question, what state was she from?

4. Name the lawyer who argued for Brown in the Supreme Court case Brown v. Board of Education and then later became a Supreme Court justice.

OkieMan - December 31, 2004 10:58 PM (GMT)
Interestingly, when Ford was president and Rockefeller was vp (going back a few posts), it was the only time in our nation's history when we had BOTH a pres. and vice pres. that had NOT been elected by the citizens. I was in my mid-20s at the time and remember it pretty well ...

tonym5 - January 2, 2005 10:54 PM (GMT)
I remember it well too okie and i was 12 in 1975. w:

OkieMan - January 7, 2005 07:40 AM (GMT)
AND ... during the few weeks that Nixon was president without a VP, and later, the few weeks that Ford was president without a VP ... in both of those instances the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives was Carl Albert of Oklahoma. During those periods he was "a heartbeat away from the presidency" and that was the closest an Okiehoman has ever come to being President of the U.S. Our Senator Kerr probably came the second closest, back in the 1950s.

History is about to happrn this year when a woman or black man gets elected to the White House. The odds are against McCain being elected. So disappointed in the Republican White House and the odds against McCain.

coach2709 - March 27, 2008 02:30 AM (GMT)
Tony I'm not sure I think either Obama or Clinton will win. Reason being they are really against each other that it might split the democratic vote and give votes to McCain.

I agree that he probably isn't the best choice but think back to Woodrow Wilson being elected because Teddy Roosevelt and William Howard Taft split the republican vote. Either one by themselvs would PROBABLY beat Wilson but since TR got ticked and left the Republican convention to form the Progressive (Bull Moose Party) that split the vote.

I think if John Edwards would have come out on day one and said he was running or said he would run during the last 4 years then he would have won.

Bush was so unpopular a year ago the Democrats could have ran a trashcan and won if they could have come up with a party candidate. But Edwards waited to declare his candidacy helped create the support for Obama and Clinton and he lost out.

I think I would rather see Obama win it over Clinton. I'm not against a female president but I think she would set women's rights back several years. She does not have a good reputation and that is going to hurt her in the long run.

tonym5 - March 27, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
That's a good argument Coach but I am following Allan Lichtmann's 13 Keys test. Look it up and you will see I am looking at. w:
