Title: Your introduction into the world of Clive Cussler
Description: How did you first start reading them?
Nic0demus - March 3, 2004 11:11 PM (GMT)
As far as my first time, my mom brought home Atlantis Found...I started reading it, and by the time Dirk showed up in the flooded mine shaft, I was hooked...So i guess i have to shout out to my mom and thank her for depriving the library of any and all Clive Cussler books for the next month... :D
slowhandshodges - March 5, 2004 03:12 AM (GMT)
Believe it or not, I found raise the Titanic in my highschool library. That's one hardback I wish I'd kept istead of turning back in! B)
Dagaz - March 5, 2004 03:15 AM (GMT)

I had the flu in 2001? and my boyfriend invited me to his place to help take care of me. Even though I had gotton better, I pretended I was still sick so I could finish reading a Dirk Pitt paperback from his shelf.
Geordie Boy - March 5, 2004 10:06 AM (GMT)
My dad always buys a book on holiday to read. In 1979 we went to Malta and he read Raise the Titanic in a couple of days. He passed it on to me and I've been hooked ever since.

My dad bought Atlantis Found and passed it on to me when he had read it. I've been totally hooked since that

From the "Home Page" of my website for Cussler fans:
Maybe you are one of the original readers of books by author Clive Cussler, who found "The Mediterranean Caper" in 1973, like I did. I used to eat lunch at a little deli across the street from the bank I worked at in Spokane Washington. Next door to the deli was a bookstore. I went in there one day, and the owner, asked me what kind of book was I looking for? I replied, that I wanted something that was fiction, adventure, and believable. She handed me The Mediterranean Caper, published by Pyramid, and said that she had just read it and it was just what I was describing. I purchased the book, and read it that night. I went back to the store the next day, and asked for any other Clive Cussler books, as "he's a great author". Sadly, I was informed that there were no other books published by this author. Here we are, 30 years later, and we are privileged to have enjoyed so many of his wonderful stories. My personal favorite was Deep Six, staring Dirk PittŪ, what was yours? ...Dave Hyatt

Timbosys - March 6, 2004 03:32 PM (GMT)
Hi all this is my first post...My intro to CC was many years ago a friend at work said I should give him a go...he said that Dirk Pitt was better than James Bond I can not dissagree there...may be there will be as many films one day....oh and my first book I read SAHARA....
Foss Gly - March 6, 2004 03:39 PM (GMT)
I, being a big Titanic buff, was first introduced to Cussler by Raise The Titanic. But it was the movie, not the novel. I was maybe 10 or 11 and watched it at a friends house.
Then four or five years ago I saw the novel in a used bookstore. It rekindled memories of the movie....Hooked on Clive's work since.
DirkPitt - March 6, 2004 04:38 PM (GMT)
Welcome Timbosys !!
Actually, a lot of readers compare Dirk Pitt with James Bond even though their job descriptions are vastly different. How often has Bond worn a dive suit and Pitt packed a PPK I'll have to find out ...
Cheers ... ;)

kujo54 - March 10, 2004 04:19 AM (GMT)
I had just moved to Detroit in '88 and was pretty broke because of the expense of the move. I was browsing the bargain books in a K Mart and picked up a hard back
copy of Deep Six for five dollars. I finished it in three days and went straight to a
used book store and found all of his previous books. Bought Treasure as soon as it hit the shelves, and have done the same with each new book since.
Browser - March 11, 2004 06:22 AM (GMT)
A very dog-eared, second-hand copy of Iceberg. Reading about the exploits of Pitt, especially SCUBA diving as I was learning how to do this at that time, the laconic seargeant Sam Cashman, the psychotic Oskar Rondheim, the frankly weird Kristjan/Kistie Fyrie, not to mention Tidi Royal, Jerome Lillie, Sandecker, Hunnewell et al just got under my skin and inside my head (I just recalled all of those names from memory, how sad is that  ) I haven't kept up with anything since Shockwave, apart from one of the Kurt Austin books whose name escapes me, but now I have found this site I feel a book purchase or six coming on............
DirkPitt - March 11, 2004 06:36 AM (GMT)
Browser,
Impressive ! If you can recall those names from the book just like that ... I might have to refer to you if I get stuck ;)
Valhalla - March 11, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
Valhalla here. This is my first visit to the site and I must say I love it. I've been reading CC books forever. My first one I can't even remember now, but I do remember buying any that I came across and had built up quite a collection. Then I separated from my 2nd husband and he burned all my books. Now I am re-buying and reading them all again as I do so. Just finished reading Atlantis Found, Valhalla Rising, Sahara and White Death (Yes, I do have three or four on the go at once). I was on holiday on a Fijian island two years ago and in the resort office/library, I came across the paperback edition of Blue Gold, so I asked management if I could buy it (got it for $1). That was finished by the time I got on the plane to fly back to Australia. I have also introduced David (husband # 3) to Dirk Pitt and his friends, by reading him one to two chapters a night after he came home from work, and he is now just as hooked. I have a palm planner with a list of the CC books I already have, so when I come across any at all I can check whether I have them or not. My aim is to have every book Clive has ever written in my possession. Seahunters 1 & 2 I thoroughly enjoyed as I am a history buff.
DirkPitt - March 12, 2004 12:23 AM (GMT)
Welcome Valhalla !!
I too went to Fiji for 2 weeks and back-packed around with my wife. Fantastic people and great beaches. We spent many hours skin-diving amongst the tropical fish on the reefs and lazing about the golden sands.
I'm glad your rebuilding your Cussler collection ... don't leave any matches lying around ;)
Cheers

In 2001, my dad was looking for me something to read because i had exhausted his David Eddings books and was not very impressed R. A. Salvatore (in fact, i hated him), so he pulled down a Clive Cussler book (it happened to be Raise the Titanic!) and i have been hooked ever since.
JimmyAEMT-I - March 12, 2004 07:15 AM (GMT)
I actually picked up Sea Hunters at a small mom & pop grocery one day while gonig to work. I work as an EMT and there's a ton of downtime. Just happens that the guy I work with had read most of Clive's novels so when he saw me w/ it he just happened to say that he enjoyed his fiction work (Didn't know anything about it...this was teh first I"d heard of Clive) so when I finished Sea Hunters...stopped down to Border's books and decided to see how he wrote fiction. I bought Pacific Vortex, Night Probe!, & Vixen 03 and read them all within days. Since I've read Med Caper & Serpent and I'm currently reading Raise the Titanic and I have Iceberg on standby to read. Really hooked into these books.
boissee - March 13, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
I was introduced to Clive books at the tender age of 14, that was some years ago. Ok, ok, it was 17 years ago! My first was Raise the Titanic! I now have just about everything including the Guide to Clive Cussler.

Tatts - March 13, 2004 08:20 AM (GMT)
I watched Raise the Titanic on video many years ago, which ignited my interest in all things Titanic. Shortly after, I saw the book, which I immediately bought, and was hooked on CC's writing. RtT is my favorite CC book, and I've read them all now.

Welcome seinfeldrules !!
I'm trying to think if there was a theme of books or authors in any of the many and varied Seinfeld series. Maybe your the expert here.
Cheers

Nic0demus - March 13, 2004 04:45 PM (GMT)
I know that there was always a picture of superman in every episode, usually a magnet on jerry's fridge, but that's about it....
but we are off track...

Hi, first post here, i started with Cyclops in 97 but actually i never managed to fininshed it then, i thought it was to weird, russians on the moon.... i was more into realistic thrillers then, one year later i started to read Chockwaves and then i got hooked, this guy was really cool, living in a hangar with cars and planes. Now i have read all of them (except Pacific Vortex) even Cyklops.
thegroove2000 - March 15, 2004 06:47 PM (GMT)

thegroove2000 - March 15, 2004 06:49 PM (GMT)
Can anyone tell me whta's up with the bathtub with the outboard ?LOL LOL LOL
JimC - March 15, 2004 08:48 PM (GMT)
If you would like to know more about the bathtub, check out Cussler's novel "Cyclops".
There's a reason for the bathtub, and just knowing about the bathtub and outboard motor it already messes it up for you.
Nic0demus - March 15, 2004 09:21 PM (GMT)
I have to admit, that was a great innovative idea by Cussler...one of his finest in my opinion...

Leigh Hunt - March 19, 2004 05:48 PM (GMT)
My First Book Was believe it or Not Paciffic Vortex which i read in 1990. It was Acually the first Dirk Pitt Book CC wrote but shelved it, and reissued it later as the Sixth...so it doesnt have the connections to the other Books as CC often has in His Novels.
Just by chance I was in a used books store and I came across it...and It is My Favorite , not so mich for the Story, which I do Love, but the fact it got Me reading all His other Novels(which Ive read in order right up to Trojan Odyssey(which I havent finished)
Tommy - March 20, 2004 06:05 AM (GMT)
My first Cussler novel was Raise The Titanic. I was serving in the army in Germany at the time, and I was attracted to the cover art on the book (soft cover edition). A few years later I saw Vixen 03 in the bookstore, written by Clive Cussler, and I figured if it`s as good as RTT was it`s worth buying. A couple years later I saw Night Probe at the bookstore, written by Clive Cussler, and I was hooked.
hiramyaegar - March 20, 2004 08:03 PM (GMT)
I started a year or two back when my dad gave me one of his to try. I think it was Iceberg or Raise the Titanic! I've been hooked ever since.
Mostly Heep - March 21, 2004 05:45 AM (GMT)
Having been a Titanic fan since the age of about 10, and reading almost anything about it I could get my hands on, Raise The Titanic was my first.
The idea intrigued me as it was still years away that they determined that the ship was actually in two pieces.
Have been a huge fan ever since, I always beat my parents and my wife to a new book and they always complain that they have nothing left to buy me.
BTW great site...my first visit and hopefully many more to come.
Rob.
Cyclops - March 22, 2004 03:47 PM (GMT)
I bought Deep Six at the Little Professor Bookstore. It was in a cardboard box outside the store. It was a library castout, they were selling for 25cents per book. I bought the book and it laid around for a couple of years in a pile of other unread discount books. I finally picked it up and my mind was blown by the storyline as developed in the Cussler manner in which he brings about 5 or 6 different unrelated occurences together. I immediatley began gathering the other novels.
Loren Pitt - March 22, 2004 05:42 PM (GMT)
Hi all this is my first time here...very interesting site...... I love to read, and one day I needed something to read so I was going to the library for something new.

My first book was Shock Wave I loved it and was hooked. Have been a huge fan ever since.... It's been 10 years since then and now I have all his book. :D
