Title: PACIFIC VORTEX!
Description: Just read for the first time, comments.

I have read nine of the Dirk Pitt books so far, but today I finished reading Pacific Vortex for the first time. And I have to say that although it does not have the complex plot of most of the later books, it only goes to show that Clive does not need that to create a great novel.

I found it nostalgic, I guess would be the best term, to see Pitt in his first adventure, and Al Giordino as well. Delphi Moran was drawn very well, as Clive's villains usually are, as well as the secret underwater lair. I enjoyed finally seeing Summer Moran, who we hear so much about in the later books. Although I did not read anything about them ever having any "private moments alone" shall we say, that would lead to Summer having the twins that we find out about in Valhalla Rising.

All in all, i thoroughly enjoyed PV and give it a 8.8 out of 10. I am taking a break from reading Clive to get some school work done, but I will read The Mediterrenean Caper next as soon as I get some free time. What were your guys thoughts on PV?

I liked it. I really enjoyed reading the first Pitt adventure, and how he handled events in his early life.
My favorite part was the dive on the sub. snor: (i love the diving parts!)

I also really enjoy the scenes where he dives on a shipwreck, or investigates a floating derelict. PV had the scene with BARF the shark gun right? Excellent.

That's right, BARF the Magic Dragon!

I enjoyed Pacific Vortex too! But then, I enjoy all of the Cussler books ... ;)

This is the very discussion that brought me to this forum, which I count as very fortunate indeed.

It has been discussed once or twice hereabouts, and the official story, as recently expressed by CC himself, is that he goofed, and forgot that there had been no carnal knowledge.

This is also the subject of a Fan Fiction contest, where the goal is basically to write in the missing encounter, with an effort to maintain story continuity and credibility. So far, there are only a couple selections, but if you've got an idea you'd like to throw in, please do so.

I am also reading the final pages of PV and found as you did the storyline was not as complicated as future Dirk Pitt novels yet I was unable to put the book down.

As I have already read a number of CC novels I found the novel almost historic being Dirk's very first adventure. I'll make sure I finish reading PV tonight.

I'm up to the part where they are looking for Admiral Hunter's daughter I wont say anymore in case someone hasnt read the book.

:)

Hi all, I'm new.
I wa also questioning my memory of just when Summer & Dirk 'got together'!
I havd just re-read Pacific Vortex & thought that perhaps I missed a page.
I managed to get hold of a copy as I realised I didnt own one, & my son has started to read them all & wanted to get them in the right order.

Now before he gets though all the Dirk Pitt novels, just how many of the Kurt Austin series are there? Are we up to No. 5 Or No. 4? p:
