Dallas (CP) - In the first playoff game in Edmonton Oilers history the team came out on top and showed why they deserved to be there. In front of a home crowd of 17,100 fans the Oilers used their power play to take control of the game.
Young gun Mike Comrie, recently coined "Dr. Hook" by CTCHL officials, led the team with two power play goals in the third period, including the game winner. The team went 3 for 8 with the man advantage and was able to only go a man down three times in the game.
"When you stay out of the box, you win." Cpatain Eric Desjardins told reporters after the game. "It's still a seven game series and we must capitalize on playing at home." he added.
Teemu Selanne had a power play goal and assist to help the Oilers toward their first playoff win.
"We played our game, stayed out of the box, and took advantage of our power plays. Overall good game." Selanne said.
The Oilers a relativly healthy team throughout the regular season sat left winger Petr Cajanek who missed his first game all season with a bum shoulder. He is expected to play in Game 2.
