Last night, the Devils didn't allow the Penguins to jump out to an early lead. Instead, they were the ones who scored early as Al MacInnis netted his first goal of the postseason on the power play. The Devils then took a two goal lead in the second as fourth line, tough guy, Sandy McCarthy scored a rebound goal that would prove to be the game winner.

Pittsburgh scored a goal early in the third, but New Jersey was able to stave off a late Penguin charge. A bright spot for the Devils was their penalty kill. The number one unit during the regular season managed to kill of eleven Penguin power plays. Coach Granato was not happy as to the amount of the penalties his team took, but said that he likes his team's aggressive nature and believes that style of play is what will defeat the Penguins.

The series now switches to New Jersey where the Devils were mediocre at best sporting only a .500 record on home ice. However, they have to feel good about winning two at the Igloo. The series will resume Saturday night and last night's first star, Marty Turco, is expected to be between the pipes.
