Anaheim, CA --
Last night the CTCHL had its first draft lotto. Anaheim, who went in with the 3rd last pick, won the dratf and jumped into the coveted #1 spot.
"We were hoping for the #2 realistically. The odd's were in favor of St.Louis or Ottawa getting the #1 but this is a great suprise for our organization." commented GM Love.
The Ducks were a team that has underachieved all season long and maybe this is the change in luck for this organization from Disneyland. The concensus #1 prospect heading into the draft is Alex Ovechkin. Some say he is the best prospect ever to come from Russia. He would be a good fit with other top yuong players like countryman Nik Zherdev and Milan Michalek.
The Ducks have made it clear the players they want to move and have made it clear that they plan on offering UFA's Serge Brylin, and Bill Guerin new contracts. The team believes it can win with who it has.
"We feel that we take take this pick and still be a very good team next year. We plan on making the pick. But I know there will be a TON of interest from teams around the league. We will listen and if it is better for the team then we will make a deal. But we dont need to trade this to be a playoff team, I think we are already one." Love stated about moving the pick.
And just like that the Ducks are flying high again.
