Devils Take Both Games on Home Ice, Lead 3-1
~New Jersey National
The Devils have finally solved their home ice woes. The Devils won both contests at home by the score of 4-2. In the first contest, the Devils were lead by defenseman Dmitri Kalinin and team captain, Mats Sundin. Kalinin scored his first of two goals midway through the first on a slapshot from the point.
In the second period, Florida tied the score, but with just over two minutes left in the period, Mats Sundin scored on a breakaway to give New Jersey the lead for good. Sundin scored again, his seventh of the postseason, in the third to extend the lead and Kalinin added his secong goal of the night, a shorthanded goal shortly thereafter. The Devils have now scored three shorthanded goals in the postseason (Sundin - 2, Kalinin - 1) and only two power play goals thus far.
The second game saw the same result. Florida jumped out to the early 1-0 lead, but Deadline acquisition, Peter Bondra tied the game with his first of two goals on the night. The Devils then jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second on goals by Curtis Brown and Bondra's second. Florida cut the lead in half, but Peca sealed the victory with a goal early in the third.
New Jersey now leads the series 3-1 and is one win away from advancing to the Conference Finals. Rookie GM, Caster is very pleased with his team's effort thus far in the playoffs and hopes they can continue to impress and play solid team hockey.
Congrats on your current success, and I hope you win it all... because, it's best to be beaten by the Cup champs. :)
