Title: Other Realms
Description: Non-Tolkien Realms

I dunno if it would go under this thread, but I have a question regarding other realms - outside of Tolkien.
Has anyone ever read R.A. Salvatore out there? {and what do you think of his work} Presently I'm in the middle of reading 'The Legacy of the Drow' {I got through the Dark Elf Trilogy quite easily, perhaps in a day or so, in fact. I was hoping to see if anyone would be interested in Role-playing it. In short though, I suppose one wouldn't really need to have read the books to grasp a concept of it. {if anyone was interested.}

Yeah, I've heard of him. I'm reading the Attack of the Clones (I won't go on into my rambling complaints about how a better author could have written the novel) at the moment, which is by him. Personally, I think he's alright, only judging by that, of course, but he's not overly brilliant... I suppose I can't judge though XD because I haven't read all that other stuff. Though I was scanning though the list of books he's written, and I had the mild impression, I don't know whether it's just coincidence, probably not, that this guy's been reading too much Tolkien :oddlook: Just by the titles of his books, 'Halfling', 'Dark Elf', 'Luthien'?! I hope he was being purposeful (as in he's writing fan fic type or Tolkien based books)... *frowns*
So, what's 'Legacy of the Drow' about? I wouldn't mind roleplaying in it... if you don't mind long, or kinda long time lapses between posts, and the fact we shorten them (well, you don't have to), by a lot... Because a page and a half (my normal RP length, on my email (I type them up on my email), which is worse with pages than Word) is a heap when you're on time restrictions :oddlook:

Oh, well putting that whole thing aside - the books are pretty decent. Believe me it kind of makes me peeved seeing people who pull things straight from Tolkien. If you read though, he's also made up his own myths/creatures and stuff too, which helps to balance out the fact he ripped off Tolkien.

Well, that's a good thing :) Maybe next time I go the library or something and I'm bored... I'll look for some of his books.
(Personally, I just don't understand how some crazy people would ever decide to so 'obviously' pull something out of Tolkien's work-- I was at the bookstore last week, and there were books in the fantasy section, one named 'Orcs' about orcs of the same description as in LotR (practically no noticeable variation :oddlook: ), and one named 'Middle-earth' O.O waaa...) Anyway, what are they about?

Depends on which Series you read. Right now I'm on the Dark Elf Trilogy, or whatever books ensue after that - because I finished the supposed 'three books' {in one} in an entire day really. Right now I am on 'The Legacy of the Drow' and 'Paths of Darkness' as well as 'The Crystal Shard' {those were all part of the same tale I believe.} and another series I've begun 'The War of the Spider Queen: Dissolution.'
War of the Spider Queen series is about Lolth {the evil drow deity} suddenly dissapearing, and no one knows why - all her 'high priestesses' {female dominated society} lose their magical abilites, while the male half still retain theirs. Because the male part of their culture is oppressed so much the male half is deciding to uprise {even though they are outnumbered} I've not gotten past that though. I'm curious to know why a supposedly deemed 'goddess' would just up and ...dissapear. Haha, I think the fact the female half lost their magical abilities is awesome. {All of them are huge ...let's just say they have their head stuck in places it shouldn't be. The polite term would be ...egotistical, self-centered, completely pyscho obsessed Lolth followers.} The other books are about a character named Drizzt Do'Urden, an actually GOOD drow who manages to escape this evil city and live on the surface, even with being persecuted, mistrusted and looked down upon everywhere he goes because of his skin color. Very interesting concept.

Ah… that sounds pretty interesting, heheh ;) It’s good, because in most unequal societies females are oppressed O.o Not that I know what drows are supposed to be *puzzled look*, but still. It’s strange how I’ve never seen any of them at the book store (I’d never even heard of the author till about several weeks ago), and my favourite bookstore has this humungous fantasy/ sci-fic section where you can find any related book, well almost, eight percent of the time ^^ Have you read the Old Kingdom Trilogy? Tis one of the better fantasies I’ve read.
