Title: King Kong

Athéniel Egleriannen - July 8, 2005 09:45 AM (GMT)

I was sitting in the cinema today waiting for the movie to start going, and there were these series of previews. And there was one which looked really spooky and good, and I had no idea what it was, except that it looked like something great that I would definitely go see, and only near the end of the trailer did I finally realise what it was- it was when the huge gorilla/ ape crashed out for the first time... King Kong! All I can say is, it's nothing like what I was expecting. (I never saw the original make, and only had the impression that it involved a huge ape stamping through a city destroying buildings. hm. But that's not the case with this remake.) It looks like such a great movie, and only when I realised at that moment (when the Ape came) did I see that this was definitely something PJ would make. It resembles more of an epic (yeh, like lotr, but not quite)than what I originally thought.There's this spooky island involved where people decide to film a movie, and it goes wrong. Has everyone seen the trailer? Any idea when it might be coming out? I hope it's soon, though not too soon, as holidays are finishing for me in a couple of days, and I wouldn't want to have to try to get to the pictures during the school term. It's hard. I failed last time when I wanted to see Kingdom of Heaven, because I just couldn't find a way of going to see it. So hope it's no sooner than... erm, 10 weeks...
So that was my first impression of the movie. I thought, 'Wow, this looks reeaally really good!' And I sure hope it is. Go PJ ;)

Hehe. I went on the ride down in Florida when I was really young. It scared the living crap out of me, even though when I look back on the home video it seemed cheap. :blink: He took our trolly car or whatever we were in and shook it about, so as a little child I can imagine it would scare the crap out of anyone. Plus we had a very real looking tv in there, with news of what he was doing to the 'city.'

I found a link to the trailer and some photo's of the movie.

http://www.themoviebox.net/movies/2005/IJK...ngKong/main.php

Holy Crap. Have you seen what PJ looks like now? :blink: For a minute I couldn't figure out where his voice was coming from, because there was this guy talking....it took a bit to sink in. O___O

Yay! My state won the premiere!? ...I think. WOOT. I'm dragging Bree (friend) along if it did...we're going to go on a road trip then. XD

Athéniel Egleriannen - July 11, 2005 10:22 AM (GMT)

Aw what?! Your state gets to host the premiere? You don't live in New York, do you? Grr, how come all those countries up there *points vaguely nowhere in particular* get all the premieres and we don't, yet we're NZ's closest neighbouring country? hmmph. I dun feel spesh anymore :( Well, have fun ova there, whenever it's going to be, and tell us about it afterwards xD There doesn't seem to be much (yet) on the site. Everything seems under construction as far as I could tell.
I haven't seen any recent pics of PJ. Waa... *imagines a punky dude with purple hair sticking up* He hasn't adopted a new hairdo has he? I'll dig up some pics and find out. Just a sec...
Nope, I can't find anything. Maybe you could post a photo?
You went on the ride? There was a ride? Kewl as ;) ;)

Erelith - July 11, 2005 12:09 PM (GMT)
Yeah I live in New York, but not NYC, I live in the middle of nowhere. NYC is a few hours away. I spose I could post a picture of PJ. Hold on and I'll get the trailer/background new on king kong out and take a screen shot. I spose that's one way to do things.

On a more random note guess what? :blink: I have a fever...(and I haven't slept in over 48 hours. I'm just starting to get tired.)

This isn't the best picture of him (after one) but it seems as if he's lost some wieght too.

My friend told me that PJ had lost wait so when i saw the premiere of the KING KONG trailer on TV, i waited and this interview with PJ took place - i stood there with my nose nearly touching the screen and my mouth open... I could not believe how much wait PJ had lost, and with contacts in, i was slightly shocked that i didn't realise who it was at first!!!

PJ has become a skinny hobbit!!hehe... aww but he looks great.. good for his heart/health.. how did he do it i wonder.. must be his running around on set.. oh he has another little cameo on King Kong too, i think...

Ahh.. back to King Kong. one word: AMAZING.. even my parents were amazed at how good it looked, especially Kong... well it blew my mind... these special effect looks awesome - should go down in history along with TLOTR for its "moving the special effects/technical stuff to a higher level... "

I believe its out in Decemeber in the UK... hopefully they'll have a premiere of it in a London... my friend maybe dragging me down there or vice verse... hmm.. YAY..ahhh.. i'm excited!!! woo

ahh.. yes i went on that ride bout 3/4 years ago.. some of the little kids were really scared, to be honest i was a little worried.. but just laughed for the most part of it... wasn't it in Universal Studios??!!!??? hmm...

(woo - this message was my 100th one!! Yay.. :D :blink: :D )

Athéniel Egleriannen - July 14, 2005 10:32 AM (GMT)

Noo I can't see the 'after' pic. Something might be wrong, but don't worry, I know exactly what you mean now. Half an hour after I posted that previous message, I was on a King Kong site. Might've been the official site. I think it was. Anyway, they had these production diaries (which I just thought was absolutely awesome. PJ, devoting precious time to all us fans to film these things and answering questions. It's a really sweet thing for him to do :) ) and then there was PJ, and I almost fell off my chair with shock when I saw him. You're right, I didn't couldn't work out it was him at first either! I just can't believe the amount of weight he's lost in the past year or so. But it would probably be a positive thing for him :)

The special effects definitely are amazing. I scanned through the crew list, and out of the people that were listed there, all of them were LotR crew. It seems that basically everyone jumped on board, and those visual effects only Weta can do an amazing job on, so I have a feeling it will be really good. I really can't wait till it comes out. I figured out yesterday that it was coming out in December here too, just like LotR-- It'll add to the Christmas cheer! I'll have something to look forward to this year, which I really really missed when RotK was over :(

Erelith - July 14, 2005 10:40 AM (GMT)
You probably couldn't see it because maybe your computer doesn't support .PNG files? Happens alot. I usually make them .pngs or something close to it. .jpgs suck. It ruins the pixeling in the picture, and that was bad pixeling as is. <--<< nerd. (no..wait. Just college.)

Athéniel Egleriannen - July 15, 2005 06:51 AM (GMT)

Nope, my computer supports png files. But I can see it now. Somehow, it just appeared awhile afterwards. Either the url was invalid and you changed it, or my computer's just evil. I usually make images gifs. The only bad thing about jpgs is that it doesnt support transparency :angry:
Anyway, back to the topic.

Hobbity_Goose - July 30, 2005 08:37 PM (GMT)
Releae i'm guessing world wide: (ETA) 14th December

Ahhh, i can't wait for its release.. tis going to be amazing!!!

Athéniel Egleriannen - August 1, 2005 11:23 AM (GMT)

I know!! Absolutely amazing... *does a little dance* Something great to look forward to. Random piece of info I'm sharing with you that you did not really want to know: The Cast & Crew went back to NZ for some pick up shoots this week. Have you guys watched the Production diaries? It's really very sweet of PJ to do stuff like that ^_^
I'm hoping it's same date worldwide, instead of something like nine days later for us. Nearly drove me insane. I will leave now before you all end up mad like me... :blink:

Speaking of special feature stuff, Have you seen on the Return of the King: EE movie the feature of where the inspiration for 'into the west' came? It was really, really sad. I suggest you bring tissues. I teared up, then was crying by the end of it all. It makes the song so much sadder when you know the background of it.

Athéniel Egleriannen - August 11, 2005 06:31 AM (GMT)

You mean the Cameron Duncan stuff? His story was pretty sad I know :( It makes the song so much more meaningful and its lyrics deeper when it is inspired by a true story. That was my approach when I watched it. And he's such a great film maker, considering he was only a teenager. I should watch all that again, It's been a while. I miss it.

Hobbity_Goose - August 31, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
that was soo beautiful, the piece on Cameron Duncan, it made me cry too....

andd the other thing was the last day of the shooting, when peter knew they had the scene in the bag, but he kept asking elijah to keep repeating , and when he finally said thats great... i cried, and him hugging elijah and both saying thank you, it was just such a sweet, emotional journey for them all... i did watch ROTK: EE in one day along with the extras, sooo a very emotional day for me, especially when i realised the journey was over, and i texted my friend at 2 am in the morning!!! saying i can't believe it TLOTR is finally finished, no more waiting no more expectation!!!!! it was such a crazy moment for me!!!!!!!

sorry but had to ramble on..... :frown: :(

Anelith - September 1, 2005 09:25 AM (GMT)

I LOVED the some of those documentaries in the appendices! i admit they made me cry too :moodswing: but they were sad. That short movie Cameron Duncan made made me sad and the fact that he filmed and set out the procession for his own funeral.. I still havent got over the fact its finished either. I was saying to my friend the other day how much i was missing it and she just looked at me as if to say "you are still not over it??" :crying:

Hobbity_Goose - December 19, 2005 08:05 PM (GMT)
KING KONG was released on Thursday 15th and i got to see it on the FRIDAY 16th - and it was AMAZING - it is another Peter Jackson Masterpiece - if it doesn't get nominated as best film at the Oscars and then win it i will be shocked!!! haha....
i love it - Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, Jack Black (i love that guy - school of rock was brilliant) and the rest of the cast were magnificent - i suggest if you get a chance go SEE IT!! hehe.... i mean i hadn't seen the old movie but i can understand why alot of people love this movie - it is excellent. the iconic image of Kong on top of the empire state building and the bi-planes attacking him!! i was sitting there in the cinema amazed at the special effects and everything they created... wow!!! KONG IS KING !!! hehe..... ^_^

Erelith - December 20, 2005 10:25 AM (GMT)
I liked it, but found since I have attention span issues...as much action as there was in it, my behind began to fall completely asleep from sitting through it. I wanted to pay attention, and for most of it I did...I just couldn't help making comments to my friend whenever something would happen. Such as when he gets in the fight with the T-Rex, and Anne is standing below...I leaned over and [we were sometimes dubbing it with funny words.] went 'Don't touch my woman!' because that's just what Kong looked like he was going to say. XD Hmm. I also remember dubbing it and going 'Ohh! You were just pwned!' [when he beat the crap out of a dinasour like it was nothing.] It was a good movie though, I just can't sit there for that long. :P

Athéniel Egleriannen - December 20, 2005 11:39 AM (GMT)
If I'm lucky, I'll get to see it in the next week or so, sometime before christmas *grins* XD I think by now I've probably seen the trailer about 20 times and counting (I'm a strange one ^^). I really want to see all the action sequences where everything gets smashed and stampeded, though figured out from several people that king kong doesn't appear till like half an hour in.
QUOTE
I just can't sit there for that long :P

You sat through LotR ;) PJ seems to have a knack for making three hour long movies, but great ones at that. Gr, the wait...

Erelith - December 20, 2005 08:29 PM (GMT)
Actually the funny thing about seeing the Lord of the Rings is that I never saw the Fellowship in theatres, never even KNEW about it. Anyways, my one friend was obsessed with Legolas and she's like 'go watch it, go watch it!' I did, obviously and at first I was all like 'I didn't like it' but it just kind of grew on me. I think I ended up seeing the last two in theatres. I think that I shifted my weight alot though during the last two ones, ....Heh. I kinda hated their version of the Two Towers anyways. It peeved me when the elves showed up at Helm's Deep, but Haldir looked all pretty in his armor. ^_^ It was supposed to show there was still hope in men, and men alone. Not the darn elves.

Athéniel Egleriannen - December 23, 2005 07:17 AM (GMT)
Heheh, the same thing basically happened with me :) Well I saw the trailer on TV a couple of times, thought 'Oooh that looks good', but thought no more about it. My cous was on the phone going (this was after the DVD came out) 'You have GOT to see this movie!' So I agreed, and we saw it, and I liked it, but was denied I did till I saw it a couple more times, during which I ended up crying (shut up, I couldn't help it!), then I bought the book, and the rest is history. I was the rare one that never obsessed over Legolas. The only time that came even close was when I saw PotC, but after that, I've grown to like many in the cast since ^^

When I saw the Elves come at Helm's Deep, I was sitting there thinking 'How wrong is this?' but literally the whole cinema (me included) cheered, because even though practically everyone knew it didn't fit, everyone just felt happy for the people defending the place. Think of the poor women and children! :(
~~~
I'm going to see both KK and Narnia after I come back from hols, because I leave the day after Narnia comes out :( pooey.
Bree - December 23, 2005 09:03 AM (GMT)
GODDDDDDD I GOTTA SEE KING KONG! Seriously. I mean, big huge monkey fighting a dinosaur, 1940's NYC, Peter Jackson, Jack Black and Adrien Brody. How much better does it get!?
But while we're on the topic of LotR, I originally hadn't heard of it, nor did I particularly want to see it, but my mom and step dad did. So my step sister and I went to see Orange County (told you I like Jack Black) and we got out wayyy before them so we went into their theater and watched the rest of it. I came in at the Flight to the Ford and immediately fell in love. I watched the whole damn thing from the steps since the the place was packed, but it was worth it. Fellowship is still my favorite.
Erelith - December 23, 2005 04:37 PM (GMT)
My least favorite was Two Towers, I could have honestly fallen asleep through it that's how much I dislike it. I think the part that irked me most was the fact the men in Helm's Deep were supposed to show they could win on their own....to show there was still hope in men. Though, I don't mind the elves showing up it completely ruined the signifigance of the battle. Fellowship was good - but Return of the King [book and movie] was the best for me.
Athéniel Egleriannen - December 24, 2005 09:22 AM (GMT)
The Return of the King was the best one, agreed :) And it's always been my fave. On first seeing the Two Towers, I liked it, but somehow preferred the Fellowship more. Then I bought the EE to it, and since that was tons better than the theatrical version, it changed my view on the Two Towers completely. Later when I went and saw the theatrical version again, I couldn't work out why it didn't seem as good at first *shrugs* I mean I love the ending to it- How it was narrated by Sam, and his speech, gotta love the speech. I fell in love with it, it's so sweet :frown:
And Caitlin (I have trouble trying to distinguish people from their characters, so I'll call you that ^^), I think he was either an ape, or a gorilla (when I think of monkeys I think of orange furry things. Ok, maybe those are lemurs O_o) I've never been able to figure it out, you could say it's been driving me insane (the strange things that occupy you when you're lapsing in boredom reading a magazine...) :moodswing:
Bree - December 26, 2005 02:40 AM (GMT)
I agree with you guys...I could've fallen asleep during Two Towers, but there were very special moments in it (like Sam's speech). It's too bad it couldn't have been so strong the whole way through, but at least Return of the King came and made up for it.
As for King Kong...I'm 99.9% sure he's a gorilla, I just have problems with the distinction of my words. Actually, I've only begun to notice it, too. All monkey-type things = monkeys to me. Haha I am lame though so yeah. :P
Hobbity_Goose - December 29, 2005 09:35 PM (GMT)
yeah when i first saw the trailer for LOTR i thought pfft... but my friend suggested i read the book (in the correct order he read it the wrong way round!!) and so i did and my nan said it was a very good book - soo i'm glad i managed to read the majority of the fellowship of the ring before seeing the film - which i adored!!
and i gotta say part from the bit with the elves coming to the rescue (which i still remotely cheer at!!hehe) i love all three films - i kinda think of them as one not as 3 separate films/books - because thats the way Tolkien originally wrote them!! i think the films are brilliant!!
but just a comment on King Kong -i saw it again a week later and my butt and legs went so numb and i got really cold while sitting in the cinema and this always happens - i end up annoying the people behind because i turn and fidget and slide down my seat then back up!! heheh... ahh well.. it was still brilliant!! although i knew when all the disgusting bits were going to happen!! hehe.. ahh well... !!
Athéniel Egleriannen - December 31, 2005 11:02 AM (GMT)
The Return of the King is the only one I read before the movies, but it made a slight difference- at least I prepared myself with a box of tissues :) I still feel like convulsing up in tears when I hear RotK music nowadays. We were in the car, then that sweet bamboo flute music (or whatever instrument they used) in 'the Black Gate Opens' plays, when they're on the slopes of Mt Doom. I swear it always touches a nerve in me. I sure miss looking forward to it.
I saw a chunk of King Kong =) The journey to Skull Island. I'm going to go to the Knox cinemas next week, they're going to be better than the ones that we have here. Will somebody please convince my Dad that king kong's not a 'mindless computer-generated gorilla-thing?' And it only just went to my head (even though I knew) that it was Andy Serkis up there as Kong. I'm slow O_o
