tutorial was orignally from da but i simplified it for others to understand.
this tutorial shows how to make thoes trendy 3d balls/orbs in photoshop without the help of a 3d program!
first set your background (any color u like) <my background was #96A097>
Now create a new layer, select a circle with the elliptical marquee tool (press shift to select a perfect circle) and fill it with a color slightly darker than ur bg color like this<my color was #8A968C>:
Next up go to the Blending Options (right click the Layer and choose "Blending Options...") of your circle layer. Choose Inner glow with the following settings:
Blending Mode: Normal
Opacity: 75%
Noise: 0%
Color: #49534A (sometimes u want to fiddle with the color)
Technique: softer
Source: center
Choke: 0%
Size: 62 px
and press ok and it should look something like this:
Now you just have to create another new Layer and put a white spot on it using a 100px(size of brush varies on the size of your ball/orb) smooth circular brush
OK, letīs finish our Sphere. It needs a shadow. Easy again. Just create new Layer below the other Layers (and above the background...hehe). Put a black spot with a smooth circular brush. Then click "Edit" > "Free Transform Layer..." and you will want to skew your black spot so it looks like the ball is sitting on a flat surface. after this you will want to lower the opacity of the black spot to about 50%. and i always like to burn the bottom of the ball to make it look more realistic.
