I did not know where to post this, this is the the forum that comes the closest to it:
Get one penny, and one nickel**. Tell someone to put one in their right hand, and one in their left hand. Turn around, and announce you will guess which coin is in which hand. Tell the person to multiply the value of the coin in the left hand by 14, pause, then say "Ready?". If no, then wait. If yes, then move on. Do the same for the right hand. Now, tell them to add the two numbers together, to get 84.
Now! To figure out which coin is in which hand. Remember when you told them to multiple the value of the coin by 14? A 1 cent coin is easier to multiply then a 5 cent coin. If the nickel is in the left hand, when you ask him to multiply the number, pause BRIEFLY, then say "Ready?". If no, then the nickel is in the left hand. If yes, then the nickel is in the right.
**For other countries, try and get a coin thats easy to multiply, and a coin thats hard to multiply.

That would work if the person your talking to wasn't gifted at mental arithmatic. I know people who can multiply and divide much larger numbers without pausing.
And I know people who would deliberatley lenghten the pause on the other coin to make it even harder.

Speaking of people that can multiply and divide very large numbers in their head quickly.... *Feels story coming on*
My Algebra 2(10th grade Algebra) teacher can multiply numbers in the millions by any other number as long as it's within the range from 1,000,000 to 100,000,000,000,000 in his head :P He knows every multiplication table, and he has it saved on his laptop :P He showed my it once, and it went all the way to 10,000,000,000,000 by 10,000,000,000,000 and that was as far as he had gotten :P He said he'd been working on it since he was in 2nd grade :P I couldn't believe it :P When i reached the bottom of as far as he had gotten, i told it to print, and it said Error: Only allowed to Print a maximum of 1000 pages at a time :wacko: I would have quit after a few days when my brain started oozing all over the floor :P

Yeah, most poeple can multiply be five instantly. Mark: you mean he could multiply 1265473 by 2349873 mentally?

Sure could :P He knows so many tricks with multiplication :P I.E. - 19 times 9 = 10 times 18 = 180 :P
