The Bracket (on LeagueDaddy)Round 1 AFC Matchups- Lions at Saints
- Steelers at Jaguars
- Cowboys at Patriots
Round 1 NFC Matchups- Ravens at Giants
- Chiefs at Seahawks
- Eagles at Raiders
Throughout the year the buzz was all about Boro repeating or Sweettaz ending up as a repeat champ. The Saints seem to think they have a shot to rep the AFC. You can't overlook the Steelers either who played in the AFC ELiTE with the Jags. The Lions and Saints are familiar with each other, the Patriots and Cowboys too...interesting the 1st round matchups in the AFC are all divisional games! Things that make you go hmm...
Then you look at the NFC and think...hmm...that NFC Central division is looking pretty good. The NFC ELiTE winning Seahawks and the NFC North champs the Giants are the only 2 teams to make the playoffs. But wait a minute...the Bengals franchise seems to be in disarray and are replaced at the last minute by another ELiTE team in the Ravens. Otherwise the entire NFC Central is rep'd in the playoffs.
Too many ways this playoff cookie can crumble. So here's the deal...you know the coaches, the teams...some of you have witnessed first hand how frustrating it can be to battle it out these playoff teams. Given what you've seen, heard, maybe you've been victimized by one of these teams...what are your first round playoff predictions. Give us what you think will happen in each matchup, a predicted winner...maybe even a score.
Round 1 is coming...ready or not... :&

Obmij76 - January 19, 2007 07:58 PM (GMT)
The playoffs should just consist of the AFC teams cuz the NFC has no shot :-)
PatsRazor - January 19, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
The Marty Shotenheimer of the playoffs, Mr PatsRazor, has entered the building. His stay is usually brief and this year looks to be no different. fuss

Round 1: AFC Matchups
Lions at Saints - I had the privilege to play both of these teams during the regular season. The Saints in my opinion are the better team. The only chance the Lions have of winning this game is to run, run and run the football and keep the explosive Saints offense on the sideline. However, I don't think that will be possible. If the Saints can stop the run game this game is no contest.
Prediction: Lions 17, Saints 35
Steelers at Jaguars - I also had the privilege of playing the Steelers this season and their offense was difficult to stop and their defense was stout. The Jaguars are the defending Champs and looking to repeat. The Jaguars lead the league in points for and in interceptions this season and are going to have to play a damn near perfect game to beat these Steelers. If they can run the ball and keep Pitts offense off the field they give their team the best chances of winning. I'm going with the Champ in this matchup.
Prediction: Steelers 21, Jaguars 24
Cowboys at Patriots - Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to play either team this season. The Patriots are heading into these playoffs on a five game winning streak and Taz seems to have his team ready to make a run in these playoffs. In order for the Cowboys to win this game they will need their defense to show up in a big way. Their offense has been good all season and can matchup well with the Patriots offense. If they allow the Patriots to run all over them which I think they will this one can get ugly.
Prediction: Cowboys 14, Patriots 42
Round 1: NFC Matchups
Ravens at Giants - The Ravens are on a rise as of late winning a big game against the Seahawks. This definitely isn't the same team the Giants saw at the beginning of the season. The Giants however have fallen apart on offense and are not quite as potent on offense as they once were earlier in the season. It has been the Giants defense that has stepped up as of late. I feel this game will be a battle of the defenses and whoever wins the turnover battle will win the game. The Giants will squeek one out though.
Prediction: Ravens 17, Giants 21
Chiefs at Seahawks - The Chiefs barely make the playoffs and face the second seed Seahawks. The key to this game will be the running games of both teams. The team with the most success running the football will win this game. Both offenses are very good but I give the Seahawks defense an edge over the Chiefs defense. I'm looking forward to the outcome of this one as this game may go down as one of the best games ever in the Nick. However, I'm going to have to go with the Veteran who knows how to win on the road in this one.
Prediction: Chiefs 34, Seahawks 31
Eagles at Raiders - It's been a rocky road for the Eagles since the loss of McNabb. Even though they lost four straight games down the road I don't expect the Eagles will lay down and just hand the Raiders a win. The Raiders however have changed things around even coaches and since then they've been on a tear and looking impressive heading into the playoffs. I expect this game to go down to the wire with the Raiders coming out on top and sending the Eagles home to watch the rest of the playoffs.
Prediction: Eagles 20, Raiders 24
Good luck to everyone! fbal2

Nice writeup although I don't know how you could pick the underdog Chiefs with 40 Nick's own Marty at the helm. :niy:
Shadez - January 20, 2007 12:14 AM (GMT)
If you stick to your run game you'll be straight. You were the only team to have success running on me all season.
oldSkool - January 20, 2007 06:12 AM (GMT)
OfT dang Patz...you gotta keep rubbin the Marty thing in like that?

Round 1: AFC Matchups
Lions at Saints - played the saints in pre-season...and it was a lopsided 14-31 win for the Raiders. thats not the saints the lions will see in round 1. they will see the saints that won 11 of their 12 games. i dont know much about the new lions coach fattkatt, but they seem to know how to play forcing the saints to OT in week 10. saints have wins over the ELite steelers as well...and i dont see their win streak coming to an end this week.
Prediction: Lions 20, Saints 31
Steelers at Jaguars - dont let the steelers 6-6 record fool ya. in the tough afc ELiTE, their 6 wins includes a victory over the jags, the colts and the NFC #1 seed giants. however, i think thats as far as it goes and the jags will have another week of playoff success.
Prediction: Steelers 17, Jaguars 27
Cowboys at Patriots - cowboys finished strong this week, but it was only 3 weeks ago they were blown out by the pats. if sweettaz hasnt been away from the sticks for long, it will be another blow out for the pats.
Prediction: Cowboys 13, Patriots 34
Round 1: NFC Matchups
Ravens at Giants - the ravens have a good win over the redskins, and big loss to the falcons...3 ELiTE wins and a 5-6-1 record...not too impressive. giants have the upper hand in this game. if they limit any unforced errors, the game is theirs.
Prediction: Ravens 17, Giants 24
Chiefs at Seahawks - this one is tough to call. seahawks have the better record, but the chiefs had the tougher schedule in a division that had all 4 teams earn a playoff spot. in my 2 wins over the chiefs, they only avg about 50 yds on the ground. their season avg is about 100 rsh yds/game...3rd in the league. dontcheeze is about as good a player as they come. if the chiefs abandon the run, it will be an easier day for the 'hawks...but even with the a good ground game, i think seahawks leave with a win.
Prediction: Chiefs 20, Seahawks 27
Eagles at Raiders - how do you evaluate your own game? we split games this season. week 1 the eagles won 21-16. week 10 the Raiders won 24-21. the Raiders will need to figure out how stop Westbrook running out of spread formations and get the ball to Moss if they want a chance to win. this game will come down to whoever makes the least mistakes.
Prediction: Eagles 20, Raiders 23 (OT)
oh man i really need to practice some time soon banghead
good luck to all in the dance! :&
Obmij76 - January 21, 2007 02:37 AM (GMT)
While Tazz will likely win, I just have to remind everyone that I have only been the owner for 3 of the Cowboys games...weeks 8, 11 and 12...lol

Round 1 AFC Matchups
Lions at Saints
I don't think the Lions have played an aggressive defense like they will see from the Saints. The Lions are a run/play-action pass based offense and will be give up too many sacks and desperation passes to win this one.
Lions 10 Saints 28
Steelers at Jaguars
The Steelers should put up a good showing but the Jags will have the Steelers scared to pass and unable to close the gap at the end of the game.
Steelers 21 Jaguars 31
Cowboys at Patriots
The Pats made the last coach of the Cowboys "See Dead People". But this is a new coach and a new wining attitude. And this coach has beat the coach of the Pats on the stage before. If the Pats put together a good package and get a few practice sessions in, the chance for victory increase drastically. For now we'll go with a good defensive battle with the Pats on top.
Cowboys 10 Patriots 14
Round 1 NFC Matchups
Ravens at Giants
The coach of the Giants has found the fountain of victory and loves the taste of it. But I think the Ravens will expose a dirty little secret about the Giants run defense and will get the Giants out of their game-plan. Then when the Giants are forced to pass to get back into the game the Ravens defense will do what they do.
Ravens 20 Giants 10
Chiefs at Seahawks
The Chiefs are ready to shock the world. The Seahawks have been renting party buses every week and going to strip clubs every weekend leading to the playoffs. If you add up the rust, hangovers, and Hersey squirts, a loss is almost guaranteed. INT's and bad play calling will make it the Chiefs coach first playoff win.
Chiefs 24 Seahawks 21
Eagles at Raiders
We have 2 teams that know their offensive playbooks in and out but the defensive books still have the plastic on them. It should come down to who gets the ball last. The Raiders are more battle tested than the Eagles so I'll go with them.
Eagles 27 Raiders 28
