Title: A quick snack
Description: OTA
Nahimana - June 25, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
Nahimana was in a very bad mood as she made her way down the halls of the tower toward the mess halls. She had been late to three classes and had been late to her training class with the Amrylin Seat! She wished most feverently that she was anything but a Novice. She was sure the Aes Sedai weren't quite as worried about being late as she had to be. She sighed to herself and counted herself lucky she hadn't been sent to see the Mistress of Novices. Of course such a thing would have made a great round out to her day. What she wished for most was a fight or well something to relieve her engery. Maybe she should skip the meal and just go and sleep. She wasn't entirely sure what she should do. She sighed as she saw the doors to the hall up ahead of her. She made a quick choice and pushed open the doors.
The Room was huge! Tables filled it servents brought food to one table where everyone talked and filled there plates. Nahimana had never seen anything like it before in her life. She got into line and filled up her plate and looked around the room. She wasn't in the mood to talk to anyone so she looked to the far end of the room closest to the door and the shadows were thick there. Smiling she made her way there, avoiding talking to anyone. She sat and quickly began to eat, she wanted out of there before she was seen by anyone. As she took her fourth bite of food someone spoke to her. She groaned inwardly but looked up and placed a smile on her face and asked. "Yes, can I help you?"

((OOC: hope you don't mind :) ))
"Is this seat taken?" The girl replied to the novice with the faked smile that reached no where near her grey eyes as she asked her if she could help. Nevira had had a tiring day an wasn't in the best of moods. She hadn't seen her friends in almost a week and on top of that someone had decided to beat her up this afternoon cause she hadn't responded to his flirting. Sure they had gotten quite a round just as herself and she hadn't followed what they wanted, but it still felt stupid to even haven gotten into that in the first place. Now her cheek stung just as much as her ribs and her hand was sprained. She had dealt with the most of it, just bruising, and wrapped up her hand for support the way she knew how and now she just wanted some food. Those recruits had gotten their fair share hopefully and wouldn't be attacking her again soon. She so hated when guys ganged up on her.
Looking straight back at the novice the novice could plainly see Neviras tired and reddened cheek. She wore her usual light brown hooded tunic along with a pair of darker brown pants and black soft boots. The hood, as they were indoors was pulled down and her red hair that reached just past the shoulders was free though as Nevira kept her head down someone it covered up parts of her face if you looked from the sides. Her hand was covered by the tray as she had let the arm slip under it to balance it better. It wasn't all to good to drop a tray in the mess hall or anywhere, especially not in a mess hall when you didn't know who would happen to be in the way.
Even though Neviras mood she couldn't help but to notice that the novices looked a lot like a woman she remembered from her child hood. There were things that was very different, but with the dialect it was all very clear. The black haired novice was Domani, and a lot younger then herself. Nevira knew nothing about the novice stiff though and judging by the Aes Sedai this girl could be of any age. Half of the newly raised Aes Sedai had to be well over 40 but still they looked 20.
Nahimana - June 25, 2005 05:05 PM (GMT)
(OOC: Nope I don't mind at all :) )
"Is this seat taken?" A red haired lady asked her. Nahimana sighed inwardly she was afraid someone would ask her that. She took a deep steading breath and then noticed something the lady's smile seemed almost as fake as her's was. That made her smile in erranst and nod to the seat next to her. "No, please take it yourself." Nahimana noticed the reddend cheek of the lady and the fact she was not wearing white. She must be a Gaidar recruit. Nahimana thought to herself. That had been a thought of Nahimana's to do. She wanted to fight, she knew the training was hard but she had fought with her brother's it couldn't be to much different then that. Although She thought in the tower the Gaidin or Gaidar were going to be a lot tougher and harder on recruits then her brothers ever were to her. She pulled herself back from her thoughts and addressed the lady in front of her
"My name is Nahimana. I am new to the tower. I have not been having a very good day." She gave the other a comforting smile. "It seems you haven't either." She nodded to the reddened cheek "What were you doing, Avoiding someones advances?" She had learned to defend herself to avoid some of her father's more interested costumors. Most of the time it worked wonders, however when the Inn had been destroyed she had been stabbed in the back. She supossed that even one who knew all there was to know about defense could be taken by surprise. She would never claim to know all there was to know about defense but she did know enough to pass or so she thought. She took another bite of her food and waited for the woman to become comfortable enough with her to speak.
Nevira Lomere - June 26, 2005 06:04 AM (GMT)
The novice seemed to be about to sigh openly but then suddenly changed in her manner somewhat. "No, please take it yourself." Nevira pushed the tray off of her arm and sat down to eat, keeping the hurt arm out of site and in her lap. She hoped that since this girl had seemed so unwilling she wouldn't be talking much. But oh how wrong she was. "My name is Nahimana. I am new to the tower. I have not been having a very good day." Nevira could see her smile from the corner of her eye as she took an other bite. "It seems you haven't either." The novice nodded to her cheek and Nevira lost her appetite. "What were you doing, Avoiding someones advances?"
The situation passed through her mind again, how the guy she didn't know blocked her as she stood outside trying to think about her own life. How he had started to openly flirt with her and not backed off when she had asked him to. How she had averted his attention on her in that manner into being one where she inflicted pain on him. Then of course his buddies showed up making things quite different. She had vivid memories of that fight as she had fought in that manner before, but she had usually not been alone even if she was out numbered...
"You could say that." Nevira answered softly. "When ever guys start to make advances as a group." She added in a mutter almost to soft to hear. She looked over at the novice. "I'm Nevira, recruit as you may have guessed. So you know my troubles, what are yours?" She watched the novice sideways, still in a not particularly chatty mood. She forced herself to have a drink knowing that she would heal better if she kept her strength up. Strength training tomorrow will be... awful. That as well as knowing she would have to avoid Resolute even if she did get a chance to see him didn't help her mood what so ever.
Nahimana - June 26, 2005 05:17 PM (GMT)
"You could say that." Nevira answered softly. "When ever guys start to make advances as a group." Nahimana shook her head and sighed "Men are never content with a simple no." She already knew she was destined to be a member of the Green Ajah who loved men but that didn't mean she couldn't bemoan how silly they were sometimes. She wished that she was an Accetped at this moment so she could help with the pain the lady in front of her was suffering. She sighed and looked down at her plate, the girl would have to deal with the yellows there was little she could do. Her mentor hadn't taught her the use of the power of spirit and even if she had she was sure that to use anything she learned until she was Accepted would be a bad idea. She looked up when the recruit said more.
"I'm Nevira, recruit as you may have guessed. So you know my troubles, what are yours?" Nahimana thought for a moment what to say. It seemed a triffle her day with Nevira's. She said "I have been late to classes and most importantly with the Amrylin Seat herself." SHe heaved a deep sigh "I suposse I should count myself lucky I was not sent to the Mistress of Novices" She had a thought then and said to Nevira "The next time this young man has you cornered with several of his friends do what we do kick him in the groin. Of course you will need to do such for his friends as well but it should give you just enough time to get away." She laughed then she had done something simlier to her brothers on several occasions. "If that doesn't work yell in there ears" She winked and then noticed she had no food left on her plate. She didn't really want to leave but she knew she could linger much longer. She waited to see if Nevira would say anything else. Nahimana hoped so she wanted a friend at the tower.
Nevira Lomere - June 26, 2005 06:40 PM (GMT)
The girl didn't seem to mind the reversed question but her answer made Nevira cough as she almost choked on her water. "I have been late to classes and most importantly with the Amrylin Seat herself." With a sigh she added. "I suposse I should count myself lucky I was not sent to the Mistress of Novices." Nevira just looked at her blankly. To be taught by the Amyrlin seat was quite similar to be taught by a queen or king of any country. At the same time as it was an honor it wouldn't be something Nevira would wish for if she could wish for anything in the world. People in power were tricky.
Then the subject changed back. "The next time this young man has you cornered with several of his friends do what we do kick him in the groin. Of course you will need to do such for his friends as well but it should give you just enough time to get away." The novice laughed and added. "If that doesn't work yell in there ears." The novice winked and Nevira gave her a wicked smile. Leaning back she pulled a knife from her waist, the only one she wore visible. "Or I could just let them have a taste at this." Nevira said and let the knife slide out of her hand and down at the table. "It's very persuasive if you know how to use it." Neviras expression was slightly sadistic but with the pain in her hand who could blame her? After an other drink of water Nevira put the mug down. "No really, I think I managed to scare them off enough as it is. But we'll see. Thanks for the tips anyway, though you should know that most recruits know well enough not to leave their groins open at any time as that is the most common response from a woman." She smiled a little and looked at Nahimana.
"So, how are things in Arad Doman? I haven't talked to Domani at all since Tarabon took over Almoth the last time." She looked at the girl with a curious look. She had never truly been to Arad Doman, but as her father had family there it was common that they had been in contact with Arad Doman traders and talked about the situation 'back home'. It was a childhood long since gone a time long ago. Nahimana even seemed to be young enough to not even remember the war if she had even been effected by it in the first place or if she had even been born for that matter. Nevira herself had only been 5 when it started and 7 when it ended, about 20 years ago after all.
Nahimana - June 28, 2005 04:14 AM (GMT)
"It's very persuasive if you know how to use it." Nahimana laughed and nodded her head. "Yes it tends to get the point accross" She laughed again and shook her head. She had not had problems with more then one man her father and brothers kept them away from ganging up on her. However, that didn't stop one or two men coming and trying for her favors. She always had kept a knife on her even when she slept.
"Thanks for the tips anyway, though you should know that most recruits know well enough not to leave their groins open at any time as that is the most common response from a woman." Nahimana nodded her head that made sense. "Although, they don't always think about such things when trying to win a woman's favors." She shrugged "You can always give them a surprise. Although, your knife is probabaly the better idea of the two." She smiled at Nevira in a friendly fashion.
"So, how are things in Arad Doman? I haven't talked to Domani at all since Tarabon took over Almoth the last time." Nahimana sighed "things there are as things there always have been. The women trade the men think of ways to go to war." She had only heard some of the gossip in the Inn her father owned but it was enough that she didn't think she wanted to be living in the capital anymore. She was happy enough at the tower and when she became Aes Sedai she would be much happier. "Where are you from?" She asked curious.
Nevira Lomere - June 28, 2005 07:11 AM (GMT)
The girl sighed in response. "Things there are as things are and always have been. The women trade, the men think of ways to go to war." Nevira nodded, sounded normal, or well as usual. As she had expected Nahimana asked about her origin. "Where are you from?" Nevira gave soundless laugh. "I was born on Almoth by a Domani father and Saldaean mother. The war split us up and I haven't seen either of them since I was younger then 10." She looked at Nahimana. "I haven't been back there since, so depending on what you refer to as 'from' the question as different answers." Not before now had Nevira realized that this girl had earned her trust. She had earned it in a way that was much differently from normal. "But what does one's origin mean anyway?" Nevira added after finishing.
She took a bite of her food, not thinking for that split second and using the wrong hand as she got the food in her mouth she couldn't help but to grimace from the pain. When will I learn? she thought to herself, changed hands and put her hurt one away before continuing to eat like nothing had happened. "So was your mother a merchant? How come you didn't pick up the trade?" She could of course have been dragged here like she had heard of that Aes Sedai sometimes did. Even so, it was up to Nahimana to tell her if she so wished.
Talking to Nahimana reminded Nevira of the feeling she had when talking to Myara. The similarity of kinship, and still not knowing the person at all. Trust was a very tricky thing. Sometimes people could earn trust in seconds, others took years. Some didn't need to earn it but when ever such a person betrayed it she despised them for life. Those who earned it were different, quite different.
Nahimana - July 8, 2005 04:50 AM (GMT)
OOC: Oh dear i'm sorry I forgot about this thread *blushes*
Nahimana thought about how to answer Nevira. How much does someone tell someone else they have just met? she wondered to herself. She answered the easier of the questions Nevira had asked. "So was your mother a merchant? How come you didn't pick up the trade?"
"My mother was killed early in my life. My father raised me, just because I do not know how to be a merchant doesn't mean I don't know a bit about flirting and the ways to get a man." She laughed "I have picked up things from the work my father did." She shrugged "I always wanted to fight with my brothers more then flirt though." She touched her arm where in the fight at the inn she had been stabbed. She had made sure that her arm healed naturally and not by the power, she wanted to carry the reminder around for the rest of her life. She didn't know why but she felt she needed to do it. She asked
"Do you ever wish you could be...normal? I mean I sometimes think it would be nice to be nothing more then a merchant and have nothing to do with the One Power. I don't suposse you wish to be anything other then a recruit do you?"
Nevira Lomere - July 12, 2005 08:23 AM (GMT)
((OOC: been on LoA, sorry))
Nevira knew she shouldn't have asked about Nahimanas mother as soon as she heard the response. But it was to late to change now. They where probably both getting to close to personal stuff through so she didn't mind the complete change of topic Nahimana offered after telling about her mother, father and brothers. "Do you ever wish you could be...normal? I mean I sometimes think it would be nice to be nothing more then a merchant and have nothing to do with the One Power. I don't suposse you wish to be anything other then a recruit do you?"
What is normal? Nevira wondered to herself as she swallowed an other sip of water. Had she ever been 'normal'? Perhaps back when she was living with her mother and father. No, not really even then. "The grass is always greener on the other side, but we have to bide with what we get and make the best of it. Don't you think?" Nevira looked at the novice, knowing fully well she had and at the same time hadn't answered the question. "I do prefer the ability to defend myself to being a bar maid, but what life is truly normal? Calm perhaps, boring at times, but normal? According to whom?" She shook her head. "I don't know." That was the true answer to the question Nahimana had asked. "Why would you want to be 'normal' though? You have all the opportunities in the world ahead of you, being a novice and all." Putting the cup down Nevira studied Nahimana, the novice was new, but surely she must have realized that by now? Studying with Aes Sedai to become one? The girl had all and nothing to chose from at once. The Aes Sedai would let her go once she had completed what they wanted, then it was up to her as Aes Sedai or what ever she wanted to become. Nevira didn't have that opportunity, she had her life here now and at the moment she didn't want to leave.
Nahimana - July 14, 2005 05:28 AM (GMT)
"Why would you want to be 'normal' though? You have all the opportunities in the world ahead of you, being a novice and all." Nahimana shook her head. "I don't know sometimes I just want to go home to my family. Well my brothers at least. I miss them the more then anything, it is to bad they would not come with me and train to be Gaidin." She knew she had all the opportunities in the world now that she was training but sometimes she couldn't wait to be Aes Sedai and have power. She sighed then again sometimes she could wait to be full Aes Sedai. It was all so confusing and the classes were hard and tiring, she went to bed tired every night and woke up the same way.
She realized that she had dailied to long in the mess hall and she needed to get back to her studying. She gave a smile to Nevira and said "I am sorry I must be going. It was nice to meet you, maybe someday I can meet you on the training grounds and you can teach me how to use some of the weapons you know." She laughed "I only know how to fight with my fists and a dagger." She stood up and picked up her tray and walked to where she was required to put the plates and then walked from the room already forgetting the conversation she had had with the recruit, her mind turning already to the holiday's class and her training she was doing with the Amrylin herself.
