History:
Farina was born in Caemlyn. Her father was a merchant and her mother a seamstress so they were quite wealthy. Farina had two older brothers and she used to play with them more often than with the other girls that lived nearby. Ever since she got old enough to walk she always followed them everywhere they went and begged to join their games. Well, being boys, her brothers had a gang of other friends and they used to push Farina away because she was a girl. But one day when Farina was five years old, one of their friends, a boy called Eram, stood up for Farina and she was accepted in the group ever since.
Her mother tried to teach her sewing and embroidering but Farina had no talent whatsoever so she finally had to give up. Her parents were worried because Farina grew up to be more and more boyish, always playing and fighting with her brothers and their friends. She actually got quite skilled with a quarterstaff because his brothers taught her to use one. So one day when Farina came home with a torn dress and mud on her face her parents decided to hire her a private teacher. That way they could get her educated and maybe some day a rich man would marry her. They didn’t have too high hopes though, they were getting more and more worried about Farina’s future.
Farina was eleven when the private teacher was introduced to her. She protested, she didn't want to spend her days inside studying some dry subjects, but her parents didn't budge. After that it was six hours of studying per day and a few hours outside fighting. Her parents did try to stop her from spending time with the boys but there wasn't much they could do. Farina learned to read and write and she studied history, geography, politics and mathematics. She was a slow learner because she wasn’t too interested in any of the subjects, but she did learn during time. And she also learned to handle a bow and became better with the quarterstaff with a little help from her brothers and her friends.
This continued for several years. But things changed when she grew older. When she was fifteen, she wasn't a girl anymore, she had a woman's body. This inevitably changed her relationship with the boys she had fought with. She started to use her looks to persuade and make the boys do different things for her. She got into a romantic relationship with Eram, and after that with almost all of them. It wasn't unusual for the boys to fight over her. Farina found it all very amusing. She started to use prettier dresses and really tried to look her best. She loved the attention she got but as the boys got into more fights her brothers had had enough. They shouted at Farina and shooed her away every time she wanted to be with them. The group of boys shattered by their never-ending quarrels and suddenly Farina was all alone.
She was so proud that although she wanted to spend time with her brothers she pushed them away like they pushed her and started to look for new friends. Her parents had never approved Farina's flirtatious spirit so they tried to find her a good husband to settle her down. They talked to several wealthy men, including some minor nobles, but none of them seemed to be interested in Farina despite her pretty looks. In the mean time Farina messed around with other boys in the city. When she one day came home and announced she was pregnant her parents had had enough too. They knew that there was nothing more they could do for her so they took the next man they saw and married him to Farina. Suddenly Farina was married to a middle-aged not-too-good-looking man and pregnant.
Farina panicked. She didn't want a family, she wanted to be free. Her new husband was hideous and Farina had no idea how to run the house she had now gotten. She thought of running away but how could she? She was seven months pregnant. And when she started to think about it, she had no idea what she actually wanted to do with her life, she was only seventeen! She had no skills except flirting and using a quarterstaff. But she knew that she definitely didn't want a family.
Even though she hated her new life she couldn't find an escape. She gave birth to a little girl and named her Frenna. She wanted to hate the child but she couldn't. No matter what she did she loved her daughter. Her husband kind of loved her too, but when Farina still hated him, he got depressed and tried desperately make Farina love him. That only made Farina look down on him because he turned into a whiny pathetic man. One day Farina simply couldn't take it any longer so she ran away with Frenna.
She didn't get far when an idea came to her head. Maybe she could go to the White Tower and train to be a Warder. Fighting was the only thing she was good at even though she wasn't very talented with it. She went to Tar Valon and before she had the chance to enter the White Tower a woman told her she could channel. She could be enrolled as a novice. That was a chance Farina had never thought of but actually that would give her the status and dignity and best of all the independence she was looking for. There was only one but. She would have to leave her daughter behind. It was the hardest decision she had ever made but she chose to go to the White Tower and she left Frenna after she made sure she would get a good home. Before she knew it, she was dressed in novice white with a whole new life ahead of her.
A life of a novice was not something that Farina was used to. Chores were not something she had done before, and she had never quite obeyed any rules. And now she was suddenly in a world full of rules and regulations, chores and classes. She was deprived from every pleasure she had enjoyed. No fighting, no men. No daughter. The beginning was very hard, but she managed. Despite her attitude towards rules, she didn't get into trouble. Or, more accurately, she didn't get caught. The thought of finding her daughter again when she was raised to Aes Sedai gave her strength to study and strive for her goal. Classes were still a bit hard because she couldn't quite concentrate for long when she was bored, but she managed.
She also got a new aspect in her life when she made friends in the White Tower. Female friends. Farina had never had true female friends before. Another new aspect was of course the One Power. And being away from men. She still flirted, and got plenty of extra chores for that, but she didn't do anything beyond flirting, a fact which she was very proud of.
Her life in the White Tower was peaceful and rather uneventful, save for one dragic event. The Masquerade. Farina had enjoyed the evening as everyone else, when a hoard of Trollocks decided to attack them. Farina was able to defend herself dispite her inability with the One Power at the time. She even killed a few Trollocks. It was a very shocking experience for Farina, as it must have been for everyone else.
Another shocking moment came years after that. The raising. It was worse than anything Farina had ever faced before, leaving Farina an emotional wreck. She had to re-think her priorities now that she knew what exactly she was ready to do or leave behind to become Aes Sedai. But the ring and the banded dress of an Accepted were worth it. Another chapter in her life had just begun, and she planned to make the most of it.
wonderful, approved. When you progress, be sure to add some on!
