Title: A new mentee (al'Aman Val Quarters)
Description: (attn Tai)
Valarian - July 8, 2005 08:55 AM (GMT)
"You had summoned me, Rei Valarian?" Dedicated Arleigh stood nervously in Valarian's office. As most students of the Black Tower, he got a bit nervous being in the clean, structured, symmetric office of the Rei al'Aman Val. The asha'man looked up from his paperwork. "Yes. I have just been notified that a new soldier has arrived, who will become my mentee. Please find him for me, he should be in the soldier's barracks." Arleigh nodded. "Will do sir."
"Good. His name is Tai Therin. Find him for me and send him to my office. Dismissed." Valarian made a gesture with his hand, allowing the dedicated to leave. After the boy closed the door he continued reading the reports on his desk. About 15 minutes he put down his paperwork to look at the door. If Arleigh had found him quickly, the new soldier should arrive about now. He had read the profile on the young man already, so he knew he was a wilder, which was the reason he had requested to have this soldier as his mentee. Teaching a wilder was usually harder than teaching a boy who has never before touched Saidin, and it required a different approach. Valarian chose to train the wilders simply because he didn't think all asha'man could handle their specific training. Of course the difficulty of that training depended on the channeler's age, their character, and off course their past. Radgar for instance was an exeptional trainee, who needed little guidance to accomplish great things. But there had also been wilders who could hardly learn anything, and their training progressed slowly, and required a lot of patience.
Valarian's thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. He put away the paperwork and checked if everything on his desk lied there neatly stuctured. Then he leaned back a bit in his chair. "Enter." He said in a loud voice. He looked at the door, expecting to see his new mentee.

"Enter." Tai walked foward at that command and opened the door. He looked around in the neat room, and at the Asha' man in the seat. He had no idea on what to say or do so he simply stood and waited for a order. To brerak the silence Tai simply said " So i guess you're my mentor? " He had no idea on wheter that was offensive or not. I really hope it's not , Tai thought to himself. Tai shifted as uncomfortably as the Asha' man seemed to just look normal, not give any emotion. One of the things he had learned was to read men's emotions, it gave him an advantage. But he could learn nothing from those unblinking eyes. Tai shifted uncomfortably, and then he figured it out. " Asha'man " He added hastily to his previous sentence. The Asha'man didn't reply however, and Tai wondered if he had done anything wrong. He quickly smoothed his face to reveal nothing. Revealing things on youre face gave away too much about you. I wonder if this is how Asha'man usually taught Tai wondered. ( OOC sry about the relatively short post, and i had no idea what i was supposed to do, in terms of talking...)

((OOC: hehe, you'll get the hang of it. one hint though, put your ooc comments further away from your text, preferably on top, separated from the RP. It's easier that way.))
Valarian watched the young man walk into his office. Making a first mistake by looking directly into his eyes. Valarian sighed inwardly, expecting what was to come. " So i guess you're my mentor? " after an insecure pause he added, " Asha'man " Valarian looked at the young man in front of him, who behaved like a typical wilder, new to the concept of living in a structured place like the Black tower. Their obvious neglect of who was superior, the misplaced pride they always had, those were the first tough things about teaching a wilder. It wasn't that hard to explain this behavior. Unimpressed. That was the right word. Wether they had been aware of their powers or not, unlike other young soldiers they were unimpressed by asha'man, by the Black tower. Other soldiers sometimes trembled when summoned to the Rei's office. Valarian spoke slowly in a oud and clear voice. "If you are to be my mentee, you will have to learn respect and discipline. Do not speak to me before I grant you permission. Is that understood?"
Valarian watched how the young man reacted to those words. The progress of his training, his raising to dedicated once would al depend on his will to obey orders. Some learned it quickly, some were never able to fit in. Some needed countless visits to the Master of Students' office before they could show respect. A flash of the disgusting scene that asha'man's office had been flashed through Valarian's head. He felt sorry nowadays to send soldiers to that unhygenic toddler's office. Valarian dismissed the thought, not giving away one facial expression. His ageless face just watched to new soldier. "Sit down" He gestured toward the chair in front of his desk. "And tell me what brought you to the Black Tower."

(OOC I think i might have a nother short post, maybe not, if i can think of something)
" Sit down and tell me what brought you to the Tower" Tai obeyed and sat on the chair and paused only a second before he began. " I came to the Tower simply to learn control of the One Power. If youre asking if i was brought to the Tower by a person, than no i came on my will, Asha'man. Tai sat and regarded those calm eyes which had flashed with anger just a minute before. Tai wanted to smile, for the simple fact that he lost contol of his calm just a second before. I wonder why I haven't been punished for this, Tai wondered silently to himself. Once again the Asha'man seemed to be studying him, those unblinking eyes seemed to make Tai almost shiver. Tai dared not speak however as it was his order not to speak unless spoken to. Even though he had ignored the man, he knew he would have to pay respect, the same respect he would pay his superiors in Camelyn. So he sat farther back in his chair and waited.

((OOC: I will disregard the fact your rp's are short, because it is your first thread. And also because I'm being extremely short myself. However I'd like to encourage you to make your posts longer if you can. Try to describe a few things, objects or feelings, etc. Also, since your bio hasn't been completely approved yet be carefull with what you say. It would be frustrating for you to have to change your RP's when you have used elements of your background that don't get approved later. And to correct you on your last RP, Valarian doesn't show any emotion, so even when I describe he has feelings you only see a blank face.))
At least the young man did as he was ordered now. He sat down and answered the question. " I came to the Tower simply to learn control of the One Power. If youre asking if I was brought to the Tower by a person, than no I came on my will, Asha'man." Valarian tried to analyse the soldier's thoughts when he spoke. He must have already known he was a channeler, if he came here to learn how to control Saidin. In any case it was better this way. He came out of free will, which meant he was willing to learn, and aware of at least part of his strength. Things were a lot more complicated when unwilling wilders had to be dragged to the Black tower. A lot more unpleasant as well. Valarian nodded. At least they were off for a good start.
Valarian observed his new apprentice. It seemed that the beginning of fear and respect had finally begun to sink in. And he noticed the expression of determination on the soldier's face. Those were good signs. He couldn't expect him to be too much like Radgar, who was by far his most perfect mentee, but at least he dared have some expectations. His eye then fell on the new soldier's long ashblonde hair. What was it with young men and long hair? All those wilders seemed to have it. Personally Valarian prefered a decent and neat short cut, but never bothered to ask his aprentices to cut their hair, since too many asha'man also chose to wear their hair in long tails. As unhygenic Valarian found the concept, there was no escape from the world 's fashion, even when they wore uniforms.
"I am not sure if you realise you have been very lucky. Most people die when using the one power without initial guidance." He looked at the soldier and waited for a few seconds, trying to see if his words made any impression at all. If it didn't the soldier probably knew already that he had survived a great risk without realising it. Valarian thought of the most important things he had to know from this soldier, without having him tell his life's story, as fascinating it might have been. "Tell me then, where are you from, and what did you do before coming here?"
