Title: Eating (con'td from Boredom) (The City)
Description: attn: Kathera

Edeleas al'Kuar - July 8, 2005 10:29 PM (GMT)
Edeleas was walking quite at ease this time, with an Accepted by his side. Kathera was animatedly talking to him, and he nodded appreciatively. For a record he was actually paying attention to her, unlike all the others. It could be that he was slowly regaining strength to fight the...the curse on him...but he knew better than to place his hopes on that one; he was tired of being disappointed countless times. People actually stared at them; an odd pair - Asha'man and Accepted - and some even had grins that Edeleas did not like at all. He shook his head. People never get tired of thingking of 'other' things.

"Ah, that is the place!" he said, pointing at the inn that loomed above them. It was quite high - about five floors, and was painted the cool shade of sky blue from roof to walls. "Let's go, you'll love it there." He walked on, and waited for her by the doors. "And then you can fire away with your question about the Seanchan; I did not quite get the latter part."

Kathera Galwyn - July 11, 2005 10:52 PM (GMT)
Kathera walked down the road with her Asha'man friend, gabbering on with her questions on the Seanchan. Glancing about the place curiously, for she hadn't gone out of the Tower for a long time, Kathera notice some.... odd looks being directed her way. Coming up with a conclusion from the stares, the Accepted had to work hard to stiffle her chuckle. As if! she laughed inwardly, favoring a few of the efending folk with a raised eyebrow, and a completely smooth face. Really, she was hardly ever able to acheive the smooth face. At least she got it right sometimes. About to go back to asking Edeleas questions, he spoke, and Kathera found herself standing in front of a skyblue building. "Ah, that is the place!" Edeleas pointed, and Kathera was a bit suprised at the height. "Let's go, you'll love it there." His long legs walked much fast than her short ones, and Edeleas ended up having to wait at the door. "And then you can fire away with your question about the Seanchan; I did not quite get the latter part."

Kathera laughed, and walked in with him. Really, it was an amazing place. They soon found themselves seated at a table, and Kathera looked around curiously before speaking. "Do they still use damane? The books I've read on them only talk about the past, and I still haven't found one on what it's like today." All her uneasiness about him had been banished, and replaced with complete curiousity.

"Do they still use damane? The books I've read on them only talk about the past, and I still haven't found one on what it's like today."

Edeleas did not answer at first; he helped Kathera into a seat before settling down himself and calling for a serving girl to take their orders. He was in a quite good mood, and he was determined not to make the same mistake he had conjured up with the sister Marian. He looked at her, resting his chin on steepled fingers, then tried again to smile. At least he managed to make the corners of his lips twitch. "Yes, the Seanchan still use damane," he replied. "But unlike in the Dragon's time, the women have some liberal rights added. They can defend themselves if their sul'dam is quite abusive; I was in Cantorin once, when a damane slapped her sul'dam after she got shouted at. And I know their collars have been altered, otherwise the damane wouldn't have been able to do that. Some Aes Sedai and Asha'man are also acting as ambassadors, but the people keep away from them. Wary, more like."

The serving girl arrived, and Edeleas asked for some buttered rolls and sweet tea. He looked at Kathera and nodded, signaling her to ask for anything she might want to eat.

"Yes, the Seanchan still use damane," her friend replied. "But unlike in the Dragon's time, the women have some liberal rights added. And I know their collars have been altered, otherwise the damane wouldn't have been able to do that. Some Aes Sedai and Asha'man are also acting as ambassadors, but the people keep away from them. Wary, more like." Kathera listened intently, almost missing Edeleas' gesture that told her to order anything she would like. Cinnamon rolls! The last time I had one of those, I was back at the inn.... She smiled up at the serving woman and spoke. "A cinnamon roll and a cup of milk, please."

The woman nodded and walked away, and the Accepted turned back to her friend, deciding to ask him more about the Seanchan. "Do the damane get better living quarters, now?" Another question popped into her head, and she spoke again. "Even though Aes Sedai work as ambassadors, is it posible for them to be leashed?"

"Do the damane get better living quarters, now? Even though Aes Sedai work as ambassadors, is it posible for them to be leashed?"

Edeleas tilted his head sideways. "I never saw a damane quarters; foreigners are forbidden to them; only sul'dam and der'sul'dam gain free entry at any time. But I think it has improved; I remember seeing a damane asking her sul'dam to buy her a dress. And they wear their own dresses now, except that the sul'dam favor only simple things. But still...another indication that the damane are enjoying rights. As for your second question, Aes Sedai are subject to the a'dam if they do something severe out of the laws of the Seanchan Empire; the Empress takes matters in her empire personally. And any Aes Sedai who is proved to do a crime is subject to an a'dam...and the duration can extend from a few months to lifetime. But luckily, there has been none of these yet; the Towers will surely interfere."

He took his teacup and drank. He smiled at Kathera. "So how is it as Accepted, my friend? You look like you are near to the shawl, any plans on what Ajah you wish to take? You cannot tell me if you want to surprise me; I don't object very much."

Edeleas drank, and gave her a smile. A real one, not the kind he had been giving her before. "So how is it as Accepted, my friend? You look like you are near to the shawl, any plans on what Ajah you wish to take? You cannot tell me if you want to surprise me; I don't object very much." Kathera smiled back, and shrugged. "Much better than being a novice, at least. And I get more leeway at the library. As for my Ajah, isn't it obvious? Brown, of course." Her voice was gleefull and laughing, because she couldn't help herself. He says I'm near to my testing...

Edeleas laughed. "Of course. I should have known. Interesting, so when you reach the shawl, I expect the two of us would be working together - unless my Soldiers and Dedicated harangue me too much. I 'spect it would be fun, romping around the angreal stores with you and -"

He was cut off just as a panting Dedicated skidded into the inn, and upon seeing him, approached cautiously and handed him a piece of paper. Edeleas glanced at the note, and his good mood slipped away rapidly. The dues of his actions in the library. He looked up and saw Kathera eyeing him. He shrugged.

"I hate to cut this meeting short, but the Black Tower calls." He said, standing up and placing coins onto the table. "I will see you. Sooner." With that he left, the Dedicated at his heels. The light burn you, Rialt! he spat in his head.
