History:

Brynnah Rian's early childhood was far from being pleasant. She was born in a small Carhienin town, as a second child, into a family that was breaking apart. Her mother's marriage had been arranged, and there was little affection between the couple. As a result, her father, Trelan had always spent the majority of his time away from home- claiming that his job entailed it. However, one day the truth was made known to Leyna, her mother, by a trusted friend. There was no true need for all those nights spent away from home. The sad truth was that he was spending all those nights with a tavern wench whom he had been attracted to one evening.

The next time Trelan returned home, Leyna was waiting for him at the door, greeting him with a heavy slap on the face. Little six-year-old Brynnah had to watch, in tears, as her parents proceeded to have a raging fight. Leyna was furious at the way she had been treated and came down hard on the man. He, in turn, was angry that his little secret had finally been figured out. At that point, he resolved to do what he had wanted to do years before. That very night, Leyna and the children were thrown out of the house.

Leyna had almost no resources at her disposal. All the finances legally belonged to her husband, and she had no close relatives still living to flee to. So, with no money, no family, and no roof over her head, she took Haeron, Brynnah, and Jani to the house of her closest friend, Zara.

Being a kind-hearted soul, Zara opened her home to the four, allowing them to stay until Leyna could procure some sort of lodging for her children. After a time spent searching for work, she was able to get a job working as a maid for one of the minor ladies. Hating to be a burden on her friend, she began slowly saving what funds she could, hoping to be able to afford at least a place to rent. After nearly a year, this dream of hers finally became possible, so she and the children moved to a small house at the very edge of town. It wasn't much, but it was their own.

Leyna did everything within her ability to care for Brynnah and her other two children, yet it was difficult. There never seemed to be enough money for all their expenses- even providing enough food soon became a problem.

During this time, Brynnah spent much of her time alone. Zara lived in an area of town where there were few children, so there was no one nearby for Brynnah to play with. Most of her time was spent indoors, where she amused herself by writing stories. In these stories, she found an escape from her own harsh world, as she wrote about happier lives and adventures. Her older brother, Haeron, had been her tutor, teaching her the basics of reading and writing, although little else.

Years passed in this way, the family clinging to the fringes of survival. Brynnah eventually took a job at the same place where her mother worked, although even that extra money was hardly enough. She retained her quiet, shy demeanor. As she had never talked to many people, she had never developed many of the skills which seemed ingrained into most Carhienins. Brynnah was always thankful that she didn't live in the actual city of Carhienin. While the Great Game was played in her own town as well, at least it was nowhere near as bad as in the city of Carhien.

It was at the end of her eighteenth year that she had to witness another family crisis. Her sixteen year old sister Jani, fell in love with a newcomer to the town. Leyna, knwoing somewhat about this man's character, (or lack thereof), forbade the relationship sternly. Jani was crushed, but all had thought the matter settled. Months later, the family was in for a shock. To their horror, it was discovered that Jani was with child. Leyna was beside herself with mingled feelings of self reproach for not knowing what her daughter was up to, and anger at the child's disobedience. After the ensuing quarrel, Jani ran away from the town, presumably with the man, as he also dissapeared at about the same time.

Brynnah was broken with grief. She loved her little sister dearly, and it hurt to see all this happen to her. In spite of it all, she still missed her deeply, and hoped for her safety. If only somehow, things hadn't gotten to this point. If only someone had seen the signs that something was wrong. If only.... a thousand "ifs" ran through her head.

Life continued on as usual however, until one fateful day that would forever change the course of Brynnah's life. As she was out in the streets, headed for home, a woman stopped and spoke to her. To her amazement, the woman was an Aes Sedai, and told her that she had the potential to channel- with training she could actually wield the One Power. After that, there was really no choice but to go along with the Aes Sedai. After saying her farewells to her mother and brother, she left the town forever, starting out upon a new life.

Currently, Brynnah is a Novice in the Tower
