Title: Freedays are great (The City)
Description: time for some shopping
Nevira Lomere - August 3, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
The morning light trickled in through the window in the barracks, for the first morning ever did Nevira have free time and no strength training, for the first morning had she been allowed to sleep till dawn. This morning was also the first morning of the Feast of the Dragon. A feast celebrated thoroughly in Tar Valon and this year Nevira would be experiencing it first hand. Jumping up out of bed Nevira stretched up towards the ceiling to get the sleep out of her body before she hurriedly got dressed. She was meeting Myara as the two of them were to go into the city to shop for the ball. She knew what she was after, but the exact outlines she had no idea about as for what her would suit her at that. It was good to have a friend to go with, it would be very helpful.
It was a feast and the city would be swarming with people from the Towers, but even so before leaving Nevira made sure to put her knifes on. The 8 knifes spread out in different places over her body, her primary defense still even after starting to learn the short sword. She didn't bring the sword she used in classes now, something she only a few months ago had been allowed to carry, as it would be a much to obvious thing and would attract even more looks then the two girls dressed as boys walking through the streets. After brushing her hair she hurried off towards the place where Myara and herself was supposed to meet, butterflies chasing each other in her stomach.
From a distance Nevira could see Myara standing under the tree they had decided to meet under. Her saldaean friend looking as always watching the practice yard as she approached. Nevira shot off a glance towards the practice yard herself of old habit but didn't find anything interesting and so just raised her voice to call out to Myara. "Hey! Are you ready?" On her face was a big smile, and in her eyes the excitement from inside. It had been a long time since she had been allowed into the city. This would be great!
Myara Ahnri - August 3, 2005 05:36 PM (GMT)
Myara had risen early, and out of habit gone down to Robert Gaidin's office to check for anything that needed her attention, and upon seeing the other Recruits dressed in civilian clothes, realized she was missing the first day of the Feast. Light! And I am supposed to be meeting Nevira! She turned quickly, hurrying back to the Barracks, glad she always woke before the sun, leaving her time to dress down into her slacks and a tunic. After tugging her boots back on and pulling her long hair back, she hurried off to the place where she an Nevira were supposed to meet.
She gave a soft sigh of relief as she reached the tree, seeing that Nevira had still not arrived, else she would have felt rather foolish. She took the time to watch the activity on the yard, noticing that not everyone had gone out for the festivities yet, and then the voice called, "Hey! Are you ready?"
She turned and hurried towards Nevira, grinning from ear to ear, "I most certainly am, and I am looking quite forward to this!" She looked back again, thinking she had seen the boy they had discussed once before, then shrugged, figuring it must have just been her mind playing with her. "Shall we go see what the city is like on the first day of the Feast?" In truth, it would be her first time really seeing the city at all, which made Myara all the more excited.
Ganegh Donahve - August 3, 2005 06:29 PM (GMT)
The Feast of the Dragon, a rather silly name. The dragon was long gone along with his 'forces', supposedly fighting Tarmon Gai'don in some other 'dimension'. Ganegh really thought all of that stuff was as silly as tales about trollocs ravaging the lands. Just children's tales to make them obey. He thought as he looked about the practice yard. The only thing positive was that this Feast contained free days, days when he was allowed, along with the other recruits, into the city. He hoped to catch up with his friends this night to have a drink and flirt with some girls at the taverns.
Girls.... The thought hung in his head as he caught a glimps of one he had had a verbal fight with a few days ago, a fight he lost. Myara he thought her name was, one of the female 'recruits'. Ganegh so disliked females learning any kind of weapon. Girls were for marrying and having kids with. They should stay home away from trouble not be 'Gaidin' to Aes Sedai and Asha'man. He even frowned when ever he saw the Haran al'Tari, unless of course a Gaidin was looking.... Myara seemed to be heading out into the city along with a friend. An other girl by the look of her features. With the hood up he couldn't see the girls face, but there was something oddly familiar with her. Deciding to get even with Myara he followed them as they made their way towards the gates and towards the city. He had time, and even if he would be late for his friends, they would certainly understand.
Nevira Lomere - August 3, 2005 06:44 PM (GMT)
Myara looked as happy as she felt herself. "I most certainly am, and I am looking quite forward to this!" Nevira nodded in agreement, she did just as much herself. "Shall we go see what the city is like on the first day of the Feast?" Myara continued. With a second nod and a "Sure!" Nevira turned and walked off with Myara towards the city. This would be a day to remember.
Stepping out of the gate Nevira was amazed to see the city. It was a large city, she had know that the first day she arrived, but to see it decorated by this was awesome. Along a great deal of the houses there hung lanterns in the most wonderful colors, people wore festive clothes even though they were conducting their normal business. It felt quite interesting to hear the stand keepers on the street yell out their offers as well as to see all younglings, recruits, novices, accepted, soldiers, dedicated and other people from the towers along with the people of the city mixing, bussing about their errands.
Out here in the city Neviras instincts as a former thief was kicking in. She walked softly, looking about not to get robed, noticing people who looked welthy. She mentally kicked herself for the last part, but after crossing the first square Nevira noticed something behind her. A boy, who's face she knew well, to well. She didn't say anything, along with everyone else that guy had a free day and he was alone this time. He wouldn't be making trouble, and even if he did she'd be able to take him without a problem. "So where do we start?" Nevira asked Myara as they both had to stop due to a train of people hidden under a long piece of cloth dancing by. Dragon dancers. "I really don't know where to go to look for this sort of stuff..." Nevira looked over at her friend as they started to walk again, the dragon dancers continuing through the streets the way Myara and herself had just come.

"So where do we start?" Nevira asked Myara as they both had to stop due to a train of people hidden under a long piece of cloth dancing by. Dragon dancers. "I really don't know where to go to look for this sort of stuff..."
Myara looked around the market place before them, straining to hear the different merchants calling out their goods, listening for one who listed clothing, specifically clothing of foreign nations. Once the dragon dancers had passed by, Myara glanced to Nevira and continued on. As they made their way down the row of stalls, she thought she heard the word ‘Saldaean’ called out, so she quickened her pace, smiling as she saw a merchant’s stall ahead with clothing of all sorts hung about, some in cuts that seemed local to Tar Valon and others foreign to her eyes. “Nevira, look!” She was excited, hoping she could find exactly what she was looking for, though she wasn’t truly sure exactly what it was.
“A great place to start, perhaps,” she called back some, knowing Nevira would be right with her, as they had planned to help each other find the right outfits and everything to go with them. Myara had been wearing the uniform of a Recruit for so long, she knew she would need the help, especially in preparing for the Amyrlin’s Ball. As she approached the merchant’s booth, she saw the style of bottoms she was looking for, pants like a skirt, just split for all of the riding the women of Saldaea do. The black material was quite a bit finer than that she had grown up wearing, the type of material the upper classes would wear, and it felt so soft to the touch as she ran her hand over it.
Nevira Lomere - August 3, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
“Nevira, look!” Myara called out, pointing to a stand further down the street where a merchant was calling out country names of all sorts. Nevira followed Myara as she made her way over. “A great place to start, perhaps,” her friend said grabbing a hold of a saldaean riding dress in black. Nevira looked at it but didn't feel it was something for her, Myara on the other hand would probably look stunning in black. "I think black is a color that suits you," she told the saldaean before turning to look at the other dresses. Her hands slid over cloth she had never touched before, materials she couldn't dream of being so soft and thin. Stopping by a rack of dresses in all sorts of colors Nevira found a long white one of a Tarabonian style. It seemed like something that would flatter any woman's body and certainly something that Resolute would look twice at. But it was white, a color Nevira didn't muck feel like wearing in a room filled with novices. "Myara? I'm thinking about something light, but I don't want to wear white, do you have any color suggestions for me? I feel a bit lost in all this." She grimaced a little as she really did feel lost. It would have been so much easier to pick out practical pants and a tunic, but this was for a ball, not battle.
In the corner of her eye Nevira continuously watched her surroundings. She didn't see that stupid guy but a small kid nicking the wallet of a warder only to be hauled almost three feet in the air before he had time to run off. Tar Valon wasn't a good place for a thief, or any criminal at that. Even Nevira knew about the chair and had heard the stories. Thieves probably wasn't dealt with like that, but it didn't mean they got off easy. Having left that behind Nevira still didn't feel less when she saw things like that. She still watched what the kid had done and failed to do. Still learned from his mistakes. It was silly, but unconscious.
((OOC: I won't post with Ganegh until there is a reason *only gets writing blocks from trying to RP them both to much in the same thread*))
Myara Ahnri - August 4, 2005 03:36 PM (GMT)
(OOC: That makes perfect sense.)
"Myara? I'm thinking about something light, but I don't want to wear white, do you have any color suggestions for me? I feel a bit lost in all this." She pulled the riding dress down, knowing it would make a great formal outfit for events other than the Ball, a piece of her homeland and a cut that would suit her well. A thoughtful look crossing her features as she made her way over to Nevira, her eyes searching for certain colors, not specific styles. She plucked a dress from one of the racks, cut similar to the one Nevira was looking at, yet rather than being white, it was a warm vanilla cream in color. There was a second type of material, a soft blue, mixed in to give it a fancy and elegant sort of look. "I think this sort of color would bring out the color of your skin nicely, and lend a good compliment to your hair," she spoke, as she held a bit of the cream colored material a bit closer to Nevira. "If not this, then something like the accent material, perhaps a soft green or blue, something to bring out the color of your eyes."
The merchants all around continued to call out their wares in attempts to gain the attention of the large crowd of festival patrons, giving Myara such a thrilling feeling, knowing there was so much she wanted to do before things returned to normal. She began to make a list in her mind of all the things she wished to go in search of, though her attention remained with Nevira, knowing how happy her friend would be to find the perfect dress.

((OOC: I hope I'm not assuming something that wouldn't happen, if I do PM me and I'll fix it. If there is something that annoys you do the same :) ))
Myara showed her a dress, cream colored almost beige, with a soft blue in slashes over it. It was similar to the dress she held though a more Cairhien style in the coloring. "hmm..." she said. Myara kept on explaining things though something Nevira was very happy about. "I think this sort of color would bring out the color of your skin nicely, and lend a good compliment to your hair. If not this, then something like the accent material, perhaps a soft green or blue, something to bring out the color of your eyes." With those words in mind Nevira nodded. "Thank you, that really helps." She smiled and hung back the cream colored dress. Now she knew more of what to look for. As she walked along the rack looking suddenly a sign with scissors and thread and some weird things on it caught her attention. Nevira knew of course that the weird things where text, but as she couldn't read she could just as well ignore those. Still this time it didn't. "Myara? What does that sign say?" She didn't mention the fact that she couldn't read hoping her friend would think she had half the sign blocked or something.
Myara explained that it was a tailors shop and Nevira nodded. Having robbed one once she knew what that implied. "Want to check it out? or did you want to pay for that first?" Nevira smiled and looked at the dress in Myaras arms. Really her friend would look great in that one.
Once done at the stand they walked over to the tailors shop, Nevira entered first and walked though the door into a room that was softly light with lamps along the walls. Along the walls as well as in one section in the middle of the room hung dresses on poles. It wasn't as crowded as the stand outside, but much more organized. Before they had had time to do anything the shop keeper came out and asked. "Can I help you two with anything?" The tone didn't sound like they were potential buyers so Nevira pulled down the hood, letting her hair free. "We are looking for clothes to the Tower ball, Mistress...? Even recruits are allowed to attend you know." She gave the woman a small smile, that was not quite returned. "Very well, look around to see if there is anything you like. If you want help ring the bell on the counter." Then she left the room.
Nevira turned to Myara and said in a soft voice. "Don't think any tailor will see two girls dressed in boys clothes as 'good costumers'..." She smiled a crooked smile before she started to look around the shop. Some of the dresses here were amazing handy work, but Nevira was looking for something more simple. The only eyes she wanted on her was Resolutes. "I guess we will be needing shoes and such with all this..." Nevira said to Myara. "It really feels obvious I have never done this before." Picking a deep green dress off of the rack Nevira looked at it. But the style was far to reveling for her tastes. Not only shape of the body, but there wasn't anything but the cloth around the torso keeping it up, no sleeves, no straps, nothing. Nevira knew she'd feel naked in that from the start and worried she would actually get naked by it falling off.
Myara Ahnri - August 9, 2005 02:53 PM (GMT)
Nevira had found just what the two of them needed, the shop of a Seamstress, and with the excitement of the day, Myara hadn't even thought about why Nevira couldn't see the sign. "Want to check it out? or did you want to pay for that first?" She glanced down to the black riding dress, a fine outfit for a formal event where uniforms weren't required, and with that she went about paying for it, and collected the small box it was folded into once the transaction was complete.
She ducked into the shop with Nevira, catching sight of the Seamstress of the shop, raising one eye a bit as the woman seemed to think them below her wares. She bit her tongue a little not to laugh as Nevira spoke, knowing they probably didn't look much like the usual customers of a shop like this. "Very well, look around to see if there is anything you like. If you want help ring the bell on the counter." Myara offered the woman a quick bow, then turned to start looking around the shop some. "I guess we will be needing shoes and such with all this..." Nevira said to Myara. "It really feels obvious I have never done this before." She offered her friend a smile, a mental list of everything they would need for the event rolling through her mind. She looked curiously at the dress that Nevira had begun to look at, finally speaking, "I can't say I've done this before either," she giggled softly, "but yes, shoes, and perhaps something to decorate our hair with, maybe a necklace to go with the dress."
She turned a bit, then stepped away some as a dress caught her eye, still listening for Nevira to speak. The dress was made to set wide on the shoulders, then slim through to the waist before falling loose to the ground in layers. She pondered the way it would mold to her form, knowing that it would at least soften some of the toughness she had developed with all of the training. The colors faded with the different layers from a deep plum into a dusky rose with the accents done in grays and silver. "This is all so interesting, Nevira, especially the night of the Ball, I just can't wait."
Nevira Lomere - August 10, 2005 05:55 AM (GMT)
"I can't say I've done this before either," Myara giggled, "but yes, shoes, and perhaps something to decorate our hair with, maybe a necklace to go with the dress." Nevira listened as Myara spoke feeling it starting to spin in her head. Light, I knew I'd need somethings but.... She started to suspect being a noble woman was a bit trickier then it looked on the outside. Her thoughts rushing though her mind she walked along the rack letting her hands just touch the fabrics. What will Resolute really think? I'm supposed to become a Gaidar not a noble... She didn't realized she had stopped and took down a dress. Eyeing it while thinking of other things. It was light blue, cut just over the bosom in a straight line. Instead of covering the shoulders to hold it up it had a pair of shoulder straps. The entire thing was beautiful, something to impress a boyfriend with. Not to fancy or expensive though. Myara's voice brought her out of the thoughts again. "This is all so interesting, Nevira, especially the night of the Ball, I just can't wait."
Jerking slightly out of her thoughts Nevira realized what she was looking at and then looked at Myara. Trying to act like nothing had happened she swung the dress in front of herself holding it up for Myara to see. "What do you think?" She asked smiling. It was beautiful, but as with any dress Nevira suspected she'd feel awkward. Light, I hope I won't show up looking like a complete fool.
As the two were leaving the shop Nevira couldn't believe she had just bought what she had. Once Nevira had showed the seamstress she actually had money, the woman had been much more accommodating to their needs. How ever neither of them had liked the sudden change, so after having payed for the dress they left. "I guess shoes next? or what do you think?" Nevira really had no idea, but according to what Myara had said in the shop she hadn't had any idea either.
Noticing a sign that was obviously a shoemakers one Nevira pointed it out to Myara. This also had text on it but with the sign Nevira didn't need Myaras help this time. "Shall we take a look?" She let Myara take the lead this time, as they went in Nevira only hesitated for a moment as she thought she saw that guy again. He had been looking straight at her. Not good, is he following us? she thought to herself but ignored it and walked in behind Myara.
This shop keeper was far more friendlier, but then again recruits were more often seen buying shoes then dresses. He did get a little surpriced as they said they needed shoes to go with the dresses, but in a moment he had asked. "Are you going to the Ball perhaps? I hear it's going to be a fine thing indeed." This man clearly had dealing with the Towers, knowing about things like this.
Myara Ahnri - August 24, 2005 02:27 PM (GMT)
"What do you think?" Myara turned, smiling as she saw the dress Nevira held up, knowing her friend would look stunning for her evening at the Ball with Resolute. "Oh, that is lovely Nevira. You will look absolutely beautiful." As Nevira went about paying for the dress, Myara offered the seamstress a wink, the sort of look that said 'gotcha' for her earlier treatment of the two. "I guess shoes next? or what do you think?"
"Shoes would probably be a good idea, as neither of us would look right wearing our boots." She laughed softly as they made their way over. "Shall we take a look?" Myara turned in the direction of the shop, replying, "That's as good as any, and perhaps the shopkeeper will even give us a bit of respect."
Perhaps it was Nevira's dress or the formal outfit Myara carried, but the shopkeeper seemed to realize why the two were out shopping as he spoke, "Are you going to the Ball perhaps? I hear it's going to be a fine thing indeed." "Afternoon, Sir and yes, we are," she replied, smiling as they entered the shop. Unlike the seamstress, he offered her a smile back, tipping his head a bit. Myara quickly went about looking for something simple and black, finding a pair that reminded her much of her boots, yet they were made of a finer material and cut to wear with an outfit like hers. She picked them up for herself, then went to help Nevira some, though she was still curious about something she had heard being shouted from one of the market stalls.
After giving a couple of suggestions, Myara slipped away to pay for her shoes, then called out a bit to Nevira, "There was something I wanted to look at quick, Nevira. I'll be just a bit away at the booth across from the first clothing merchant we visited, where I got my outfit, ok?"
She waited a bit, then turned to leave, working her way through the crowd, which had grown some as more people came to shop from the many merchants that had set up to sell during the festivities. She wasn't quite fond of crowds this large, as it was harder to keep aware of everything going on, causing her to groan slightly as she worked her way through the clusters of people.
Ganegh Donahve - August 27, 2005 04:51 PM (GMT)
((OOC: If I'm guessing she'll do something she won't just pm me and I'll fix it :) (both posts that is) ))
Having lost the two recruits while walking over the first square, cut off by bloody dragon dancers Ganegh was quite upset. How was he ever to find them now? Muttering to himself as he walked, hands in his pockets and just walking aimlessly through the streets. He passed a couple of booths and stopped to look at some stuff. He had no date to the ball and he had clothes already so looking at these things really wasn't very amusing. I still wonder if that girl wouldn't have made a good playmate, had she not been so stingy... or fast... He was still a bit angry about that evening. He had ended up getting help from a couple of his friends defending himself from a female recruit. Pretty one at that as he had been even flirting with her. Now she had ended up beating them up or so it seemed, then run off before they had a chance to catch her. Girls are just crazy... He thought as a young woman just turned on her heal and noticed him. She gave him a warm smile and an innocent look. He gave her just a small smile back and a wink before she walked off into the crowd and was lost to his eyes once more. Now what will I do with my day? I didn't wait for the others, and they have surely left by now.
Then suddenly, walking out of a tailors shop he saw them. The two recruits he had lost on the square. Stopping at a booth pretending to look at a bracelet as if he was shopping for a girlfriend, he watched them from the corner of his eye. The one of the girls who previously had had her hood up had now pulled it off and her red hair was flowing freely in the air. Both of the girls were beauties really and had no reason to be were they were, learning what they were learning. It was the mens place to defend the women and children, not the other way around. He followed them slowly as they moved down the street and watched as they slipped into a shoe shop. Smiling to himself he hid around the corner to an ally that lead back to the street connected to that square he had lost them in. Once they came out he would follow, and take his advantage when it came.
It didn't take that long before the door actually opened again and the darker girl came out, alone. He thought she might be saldaean, with those tilted eyes and the type of body she possessed. As she came walking back the street the way she had come he hurried down the ally and stepped into a small space in between the buildings, he could eye her from there until she came by. If she came through the ally he had his chance, if she walked on she wouldn't see him. To his great surprise and pleasure she turned down the ally and a smirk spread on his lips. He had his chance now. As soon as she had passed him he stepped out behind her and pulled out his sword. "It's just you and me now, sweetie." She turned to see him and didn't look all to surprised nor amused. "I think it's time to show you your plac...." His words were cut short as he felt a sharp object against his throat.
Nevira Lomere - August 27, 2005 04:52 PM (GMT)
Myara found a pair of shoes fast, simple black ones that could be used with anything really. Nevira though were a little more picky and after a few suggestions from her friend Myara said. "There was something I wanted to look at quick, Nevira. I'll be just a bit away at the booth across from the first clothing merchant we visited, where I got my outfit, ok?" Nevira nodded in an absent minded manor as she was looking at a pair of boots with low heals that seemed sturdy and might go well with her dress as well as be something she could very well use for riding. Myara was gone before she had time to get out of her own thoughts and warn her friend. Trying on the boots fast she made sure they would fit before she payed for them and hurried after her friend. It was no good to walk alone, knowing the danger or not. Myara was unarmed as far as Nevira knew and with that lad after her speed wasn't enough, especially not if he was armed.
Walking along the street she almost passed the ally. Hadn't something glistened in there she would have. Halting in her steps she looked into the ally and could see the boy standing there, his sword drawn, facing Myara. "It's just you and me now, sweetie." He said in a slimy voice Nevira just hated. Walking slowly, quietly she snook up from behind and pulled a knife from her sleeve, he was not going to bully either of them. As Myara turned he continued to speak. "I think it's time to show you your plac...." But as Nevira silently slid her knife around his shoulder and pressed it slightly against his throat he became very quiet fast. "We are in our place, so stop messing about where you don't belong. Clear?" The guy was fast and Nevira knew it from having fought him before so as he tried to throw back his elbow to hit her in the ribs she just stepped back, pressing the knife hard against his throat so he had to bend backwards to keep her from slitting it straight open. "Ah ah ah, wouldn't do that if I were you." Nevira said with an amused tone and smile on her face. "Could be slightly hazardous you know. Wouldn't want to get your nice clothes in a new color, right?" He gave off a low grunt of dissatisfaction and Nevira felt even better about all this. "Drop your sword boy, you won't need it in the city anyway. Myara here is probably better at handling it then you are anyway." She gave her friend a first look since taking the upper hand in the situation. The boy did as told and Nevira turn him around before letting him go with a kick to his bottom. He gave them both angry looks but neither argued nor stayed. He hurried his steps off. "Don't think he'll be bragging about that anytime soon." Nevira said and looked down at the sword. "Who does he think he is anyway? Drawing swords on people in the middle of Tar Valon? Seriously..?" She looked up at Myara as she sheeted the knife.
As she had let her hand drop to her side she realized that Myara didn't know much about her carrying knifes. Her friend did know a bit about her fighting with them, and hand to hand, but not where she had learned nor why. "Uhm..." Nevira looked at her sleeve. "I guess I owe you an explination about that..." She touched her arm shortly. "Don't think here is the best place though..."
