Title: Already in Trouble (Mistress of Novice's office)

Avialle Verais - August 16, 2005 06:46 PM (GMT)
Avialle made her way to the Mistress of Novice's office first thing the morning after she and Karena had been caught practicing with swords. She wasn't going to try her luck and get in more trouble by not following the orders of the man who had sent her here.

At least this time there was no danger of seeing her family here. Looking around the antechamber to the Mistress of Novice's office, she suppressed a shudder as she remembered the bitter words of her family. Shaking her head to clear it, she rapped lightly on the door and hoped for the best.

((OOC: Avialle, would you mind trying to make your posts more elaborate? Makes it more fun to RP if so :) If you want descriptions of Dovenies office or her looks send Cayana a PM))

Cayanas office, the oval room parted by a few steps up to where the desk stood had but two doors. One out into the corridor where the visitors entered, and one into a back room where records were kept until put away in other parts of the Towers. That room too had a door, out to an other corridor, but few knew that that hadn't had this office for themselves. This morning though no answer was given through that door. It had been locked once the novice book had been retrieved from it and a note had been put on the door. "Those sent to the Mistress of Novices, go to the Gray Ajah halls and find Dovenie Xernov." It was signed with the same name and her title of Aes Sedai of the Gray Ajah. Quite simply and not elaborate.

Dovenie had been assigned the chore of looking after Cayanas responsibilities until the time Cayana was deemed dead or came back, wether that be by the help of the Green Ajah or no. Naturally no one had been told about Cayanas kidnapping though it had spread to the hall in no time and the Greens were already investigating the matter. Dovenie cared less. That flop of a girl should never have been made Mistress of Novices in the first place according to her. She was far to reckless and had proven that during her education here. Really her mother had shown enough for them both and Dovenie didn't think Cayana should ever have come further then novicehood. Next we'll here the girl has actually run off and gotten married. She thought as she sent out a novice though her office door.

The Mistress of Novice chores didn't take up all her time, but a significant part that Dovenie felt would be better work then dealing with all these insolent novices. The blond Aes Sedai muttered something to herself as she went back to reading some reports that she had gotten previously to all this nonsense. Get a move on it already... The woman thought as she turned the page.

Avialle Verais - August 20, 2005 01:10 AM (GMT)
Avialle found the note on the door when she started to knock and read it quickly. Great, she thought sourly, now I'm in trouble with an Aes Sedai I don't even know ... and where in the Light are the Gray Ajah halls? Well, there was nothing for it but to attempt to find this Dovenie Sedai and hope that she wouldn't assign to horrible of a punishment.

As Avialle hunted for the Gray halls, she wondered what kind of punishment she was likely to receive. This was her first time being sent to see the Mistress of Novices for a transgression and she had no idea what to expect. Did they assign extra lessons? Chores? The switch? That last idea sent a shudder down her spine. Maric had never held with corporal punishment, and her own parents usually didn't notice her enough to bother so she had only been hit a handful of times in her young life. Chewing her lip as she wandered the halls, Avialle realized that corporal punishment was what she was really afraid of. She wasn't one to take pain well, not having been exposed to much of it in her life. Discomfort, yes, but it didn't take much strength to survive hard floors and dishpan hands.

Avialle realized that she was dragging her feet, dreading what her punishment might be. Stop being so woolheaded, she told herself, whatever the Aes Sedai comes up with probably isn't half as bad as what you're imagining. Finally, she stopped and asked a passing novice where the Gray Ajah halls were. Fortunately or not, depending on how one looked at the situation, she was very near them. The novice even knew where Dovenie Sedai's office was. With the directions fresh in her mind, Avialle found the office easily.

Now that she was here, she found her palms sweating and her lip sore from being nervously chewed at. Still, it was time to face the music. Avialle lifted her hand and smartly rapped on the door.

((OOC: Thank you Avialle ^^))

The knock on the door went unanswered for a moment as Dovenie finished reading the report. She said "Enter" as she picked up a fresh sheet of paper to write on and didn't look at the novice as she came in. Having let the novice stand in silence for a while, ignoring any attempts to get her attention she finished the note she had written. "So what have you done then?" She said coldly and looked at the young girl. Dovenie barely remembered being that young, though she was as ageless in appearance as any Aes Sedai. Her hair as blond as it had always been when she was young with that black stripe constantly getting in the way. Dovenie would have changed her hair style had it not been cause it would have looked weird. She may not be much for appearance and good looks other then when it came to things between her and her Gaidin, but she did have a sense of propriety. A weird looking gray did nothing for a negotiation.

This girl how ever not very short but skinny to Dovenies eyes. She didn't look like she had been here long as details in her manners and looks were easy to see in the clearly up lit room. Dovenie did not offer the girl a seat at her desk, even though two chairs stood there as well as one by the door. This girl would not be allowed to sit until she told what the errand was and perhaps not even then, depending on the errand. Watching the girl Dovenies eyes shifted from blue to green as they had a tendency to do. She was not angry with the girl, but still somewhat annoyed of being 'assistant Mistress of Novices' for the time being. They could have fired the girl and given me the true job, but no.... Naturally for Dovenie she was letting that anger out on the novices and others that came for punishment. The one that had been in here a while ago had disrespected an Accepted, she had been given ten swaps before sent to the kitchen with extra chores for two hours for the next week. This brunette probably wouldn't be much happier then the last one when she left.

((you're welcome!))

Avialle stood there anxiously for several moments wondering if the Aes Sedai in question was even in her room when finally she heard, "Enter" through the door. Wiping her sweaty palms on her dress, she pushed the door open and stepped through.

She was so nervous that she hardly noticed the room, her eyes on the Aes Sedai. She curtsied when she approached the desk, but the woman appeared not to notice. She was writing something and Avialle had to fight the impulse to crane her neck a bit to see if she could make it out. Light girl, she thought sourly, mind your own business! If the Aes Sedai saw her being so nosy, she knew her punishment would be even worse. Avialle began to shift from foot to foot as she waited for the Aes Sedai to address her. In an effort to calm her nerves, she used this time to examine the other woman, but other than an interesting streak of darkness in otherwise fair hair, the woman had that same agelessness all of the Aes Sedai carried. Avialle had made a bit of a game at first, trying to guess their ages, but since there was no way for her to find out how old they really were the game had quickly become fruitless.

Finally, the Aes Sedai looked up from her writing. "So what have you done then?" She said in a cold, impersonal manner. Avialle's mouth was so dry that she was afraid she wouldn't be able to speak. Her palms were sweating again and out of habit she wiped them on her dress.

"I..um..I was just..." She stuttered, barely able to meet the woman's blue - or was it green? - eyed gaze. She took a deep breath, then continued. "That is, I was in the garden, and I met this recruit, Karena. We started talking, and I asked her if she wanted help practicing with her sword. I thought it would help her to show me, you see." Avialle realized that she was rambling, but she was too nervous to stop herself. "So, we were practicing, with the wooden practice swords, you know, in the garden, when this man came along..." It suddenly occurred to her that she hadn't a clue to who he was and why he had the authority to send her here, but that was a question for another time. "Anyway, he said novices weren't allowed to practice swordplay and that I should see the Mistress of Novices about it." Looking down at the floor, she added lamely, "I've only been here a few days, I had no idea we weren't allowed to do that."

Chewing her lower lip and still shifting restlessly on her feet, she practically held her breath and waited for the Aes Sedai's response.

The girl was nervous and seemed to be having problems with her hands sweating as she wiped them on her dress before answering. The girl was nervous and stuttered at first before it all turned into a ramble. "I..um.. I was just... That is, I was in the garden, and I met this recruit, Karena. We started talking, and I asked her if she wanted help practicing with her sword." Dovenie knew at this point were this was leading. If it was something Dovenie disliked it was women handling weapons, the Haran al'Tari being female didn't matter, her opinion was the same anyway. Weapons were mens work, not womens. "I thought it would help her to show me, you see. So, we were practicing, with the wooden practice swords, you know, in the garden, when this man came along... Anyway, he said novices weren't allowed to practice swordplay and that I should see the Mistress of Novices about it." Looking down at the floor the girl excused herself. A very lame excuse in Dovenies eyes. "I've only been here a few days, I had no idea we weren't allowed to do that." Eyeing the girl as she said cooly "Would your parents allow you to practice sword play?" but she wasn't really asking.

Putting the note aside she told the girl her punishment without further ado. "You will have two hours of extra chores in the laundry and five blows with the switch." Rising she took the switch were it stood leaning against the bookcase. "Well girl," she told Avialle as the girl hadn't turned around. "Turn around and bend over!" She acted as this was nothing to her. It had though long ago. She had gotten switched as a novice and really she thought Cayana used the punishment far to little. She's bloody lenient on the girls, far to lenient. The Mistress of Novices who had had both Dovenie and Cayana under her wings were far more stricter. The pranks the young Aes Sedai had pulled as an Accepted had made Dovenie and several others wanted to have her thrown out, and least of all become the Mistress of Novices herself after raised to Aes Sedai. It wasn't the general opinion though and the girls of today probably knew very little about the Green who was really in charge of them.

Having given the girl the five blows she sent her off with a last warning. "If you do it again girl, I won't be so lenient with you. Now hurry off, they probably need a hand in the laundry rooms already."

((OOC: I want you to RP the Laundry punishment. When I ask for this I want you to complete it in one of two ways, either you create a thread were you write three separate posts in which you show your characters thought progress, or you RP the chore with someone.))

Avialle Verais - August 24, 2005 09:21 PM (GMT)
Avialle's voice was shaky as she finished her story. As expected, the Aes Sedai was not impressed, nor interested, in her weak excuses.

"Would your parents allow you to practice sword play?" Dovenie Sedai asked, but before Avialle could answer, the woman began to put her papers in order. Silent, Avialle assumed the question had been rhetorical and she was glad that she didn't have to answer it. Who knew what her parents might have done, they certainly weren't paragons of good parenting. "You will have two hours of extra chores in the laundry and five blows with the switch." Dovenie Sedai continued without blinking an eye. Avialle's heart sank and her stomach clenched. The dreaded switch! She felt bile rise in her throat and swallowed it hard. Was there no way out of this? "Well girl, turn around and bend over!"

There was no way out. Avialle turned around almost as if she were in a trance, and then bent forward. She was so scared that she thought she might vomit. She had a feeling that vomiting on the Aes Sedai's rug would only earn her more blows, so she concentrated on reigning in her rebellious stomach. When the blows started, she yelped and had to force herself to stand still and allow the Aes Sedai to finish. She had a horrendous vision of what would happen if she made the Sister chase her all around the study. It took all of her will not to run, or at least cover herself with her hands, but she managed. By the end of it, her face was red and there were tears in her eyes. This is barbaric, she thought angrily.

"If you do it again girl, I won't be so lenient with you. Now hurry off, they probably need a hand in the laundry rooms already." Dovenie Sedai said, dismissing Avialle. Avialle didn't have to be told twice. Suppressing the impulse to rub her aches, she left the room a lot faster than she had come in. On the way to the laundry room, she wiped her tears and tried to master her outrage and shame at what she thought of as an unfair punishment.
