((Continued from
here, which is continued from the Grounds))
Adena made her way from the Infirmary through the grounds toward the White Tower. She could still hardly believe that she was being sent for punishment. Did they not realize that her father was a very powerful lord in Amadicia? Of course they did not, these witches knew nothing about Amadicia, or they would not dare punish Adena. And yet, that Aes Sedai had sent her for punishment for channeling without permission. Again, the Aes Sedai proved their lack of understanding of even the simplest of things. Adena had not meant to channel, she very much regretted it, in fact, and wished it had never happened. She wished, really, that she had never channeled for the first time, that she could not channel at all. All she really wanted was to go back to Amadicia, become the lady she had been since birth, and marry a powerful young lord, as she had been told she would do for as long as she could remember. But no, she was here in this...White Tower. The thought made her want to spit, perhaps she would have, if not for the fact that she knew that was entirely inappropriate for a lady. She
was a lady, no matter what the witches tried to convince her of. They could not simply take her family and birth from her. No matter what they did, she would always be of House Moren, and so would always be a lady, unless the House should die out or be stripped of rank, which Adena knew would never happen, her House was far too strong for that, they were loyal to the Children of the Light, and so there was no need to remove them from their position.
Adena stepped through a door into the Tower proper, and looked both ways down the hall where she stood. Light, but she
still was not sure where the Mistress of Novice's office was. She took a breath, and turned left, that seemed correct, as she remembered, from her one previous visit. After several minutes, and several wrong turns, Adena found the door she thought was the one for that witch called Cayana. As she came close to it, she realized there was a note pinned to the door, she read it quickly, and supressed a curse entirely inapropriate for her station. Now she had to find here way to this Dovenie's office, and the Gray Ajah halls. Well, the Ajah halls should not be too difficult to find, right? She started on again, rather angrier than she had been before, which had been no little bit. She climbed the first set of stairs she came to, and set about trying to figure out how to get to the Ajah halls from there. Surely if she found the Ajahs, the Gray would not take much longer. She hoped. As she walked, she thought furiosly. She was reporting for punishment only so that if that Yellow asked, it would seem that Adena was doing as she was told. After she left this woman's office, Adena had every intent of getting out of the Tower, rather than serving her punishment. She knew that running away was entirely against the Tower's rules, that had been made clear to her at the start, but she had already broken enough rules, she did not see what difference one more would make, besides, they would not be able to punish her, she would be gone. She did not yet know where she was going after she left this place, she only knew that she had to leave now, before she lost her nerve, or the witches brainwashed her into thinking they were not evil.
Finally, Adena made her way into another hall, and found herself in a hall dominated by the color blue. Well, at least she knew she was in the right place for the Ajah halls, but the Tower was a maze. She had no idea how to even get out or through the Blue halls, aside from how she had just entered, how would she ever find the Grays? She stepped back into the hall she had come from, and into a hall that featured all seven colors equally. She looked around for someone to ask, but saw no novices, mostly Aes Sedai were here, and a few of the Accepted. Well, she had asked one of the Accepted for directions before, and had not had come out any worse, of course, then she had not known what the Accepted were, and had thought their slightly more colorful dresses only some sort of fancier novice dress. Even so, she had to find the Gray halls, Light, but she hated asking directions, and that seemed to be all she did. If she had had plans of staying any longer, Adena might have put forth some effort to learn where everything was. She approached the woman, who appeared no older than Adena herself- something she still did not understand, it took years to become Accepted, did it not? -and stopped her. "I need to find the Gray Ajah halls, and the office of Dovenie Xernov," she said simply. The woman gave her a glare that would have done for one from Adena herself, and stayed silent for a moment. Finally, she answered, "Apparently Cayana Sedai does not deal with novices as she used to, for they don't show the same respect to the Accepted. Child, if you wish to go anywhere in the Towers, you must learn respect."
Adena supressed the urge to tell the woman she did not, in fact, want to go anywhere in this Light-forsaken place, aside from to the Gray Ajah halls. The woman did not move, though, and seemed to be waiting for something. Respect, perhaps? Adena felt her cheeks flush with anger, Light but this woman was probably a peasant, and should be curtsying to Adena! After a few moments, Adena began to grow impatient, "Are you going to take me to the Gray Ajah halls? I was instructed to go there by an Aes Sedai." She added the last sentence as an afterthought, perhaps this woman brainwashed by the Towers would think that important enough to make her move. And it worked, though not exactly as Adena had hoped. The Accepted nodded slightly, and muttered something that Adena could not quite catch. It made Adena angry, but she did not say anything as the woman turned and motioned for Adena to follow. The Accepted wasted no time, she moved through the Tower quickly, but apparently trying to seem not to hurry. That she did not succeed well at all confirmed to Adena that the woman was a peasant, and owed Adena far more respect than she had shown. Only the fact that Adena had given no indication aside from her manner of her status in socity kept her from calling the woman down. Finally, Adena found herself in a hall, suddenly surrounded by gray. The Accepted did not slow, though, until she came to a door, where she stopped quickly. "This is Dovenie Sedai's office, be sure to be more respectful to her than you have been to me," she said simply, and started down the hall again. Adena did not watch her go, she simply turned to face the door, and knocked.
