Title: REALLY BIG CRAZY COOL THING.
Description: Or, a fascinating foray into video games
Laridian Maeronen - October 11, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
Soo, anybody remember our ex-Shen head, Sidivin?
Being the uber-1337 person that he is, he and a bunch of other people have come up with the insanely fabulous idea of making a Wheel of Time video game. According to Sidivin, they're aiming at Halo 2 quality, and will be using some of the same software that was used to create Advent Children.
In other words... INSANELY @$%&-ING COOL.:jitter:
They're hoping to, with the permission of RJ, show a demo of it at the next E3 convention.:D
And, lucky us, we've been asked to input possible story-lines for the game itself!
The only requests so far has been that there needs to be "a huge war or something," and that it avoids the Taint on Saidin.
This is YOUR chance to have your story featured in a Wheel of Time Video game. Seriously, how often are you going to have a chance at this? Post, you WoT fans, as if your ability to channel depended on it!
Laridian Maeronen - October 14, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
*poke-ing of the people*
o.O...Surely you're not ALL too busy reading the book?
Edeleas al'Kuar - October 14, 2005 04:10 AM (GMT)
Gimme time to think. If I can think. err... :look
Rownan Abeyta - October 14, 2005 04:22 AM (GMT)
Possible storylines.
Well, the only thing I can say is that you should be able to chose the path of the charrie. I luff luff luff games that have a good and variable storyline. Make the game responsive. Halo was awesome, but the big attraction is the graphcs and the killing. Fable was the opposite, great story, responsive but really iffy on everything else.
If I played a wheel of time game, I would want to go through as much of Rand-Land as poss. This means lots of maps or sets or whatever which means lots of $$$ and time. Perhaps they should go all story line on us.
Poss quests: Seeking the eye of the world? Killing a forsaken (or becoming one)? Why don't they play at Lewis's life? Or another dragon? Say you were in the fith age, or something and become the Dragon?
Ummmm.
Story line: You are someone in Randland. Find out you can channel (only if this thing is going to have super effects) and are forced to leave home. You have to battle crud and as you do you become more and more powerful, reaching your full potential. Meet bad guys. Kill bad guys. Fight for the cause of Light/Tower/King/Country. End up in the Pit of Doom doing something important. Yes that would be super fun to animate.
Only, charrie should have the ability to become super mega powerful. Just make the baddies harder to kill.
Ummmm.
Ok. Yeah that was me thinking. Random thought followed by random thought, Dun know if this was helpful. *tags next person* Take it and run!
Sapphira Calren - October 14, 2005 12:36 PM (GMT)
I've been thinking as well, unfortunately I'm bad at this stuff. :P Rownan, your ideas were great, I'd play that game. :D I'll keep thinking, though, maybe I'll have a breakthrough and come up with something decent. :P
Resolute al'Therin - October 14, 2005 12:47 PM (GMT)
my only thought is that it needs must ne a MMORPG ^_^ or at least online capable play..
Naina - October 14, 2005 02:12 PM (GMT)
It should be an RPG with a variable storyline, a lot of interaction with the WoT world, dialogues. lots of maps and I agree with Rownan that you should be able to choose a path for the character.
I think Rownan´s suggestions are all great, unfortunatelly I don´t have any ideas myself right now.
I have never played Advent Children or Halo 2, so I don´t know what kind of game they are planning...Will it be similar to an infinity engine rpg? That would be great ^^
Rownan Abeyta - October 14, 2005 02:58 PM (GMT)
Never played the almighty Halo? Heathen! Savage! Go hence young woman, go hence! Find thyself the sacred xbox and play for thine own salvation!
*shakes head* Honestly, what is the world coming too?
Anyway yeah.
I think it would be super fun if the game had X-Box live capibilities, or some kind of online feature. Of coarse that would mean that all the charries would have to be extremly variable in appearence. Which would still be awesome, but, again, would take major bling.
The only reason BTW that I am sort of vying for X-Box, is cause that the new one will be coming out and it will be more powerful then any other system out there. Even if its only by a few gigs. I think, if they do this game right, they will need a hugly capible platform. Plus, if microsoft is involved, the sky is the limit!
Naina - October 14, 2005 03:53 PM (GMT)
Rownan Abeyta - October 14, 2005 04:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know. But soon thou shalt be cleansed. Lots of people have a Halo deficiency. Its a common problem. You are not alone.
j/k! You are perfet w/out Halo. :boing-boing:
Laridian Maeronen - October 14, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
Just a poke to let you know, aparently a console developer kit costs around $10,000, so they're aiming at making it for the PC.
and Halo is spiffy even if it was meant for Mac and the evil empire stole it... :pout:
And Advent Children is actually a really really damn pretty Japanese movie in CG that covers the Final Fantasy universe. (Which I didn't know so it didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.)
Plus you can still do Halo online for free on the PC.... which rocks.
Rownan Abeyta - October 14, 2005 07:59 PM (GMT)
On the . . . .*gulp* PC?!? What about the rest of us who have crumby compies? Noooooo! Don't do it!!!!
Naina - October 14, 2005 08:47 PM (GMT)
 Well maybe not so soon...I don´t want to shock you or something, but I don´t even have an xbox :look So actually I wouldn´t mind if they make the game for the PC...
Laridian Maeronen - October 14, 2005 10:34 PM (GMT)
Plus I made him at least think about making it Mac compatible... Glee! *hugs Mac* I can dream, can't I??
Besides.... people working with a budget. *shrug* Watcha gonna do, eh?
Sides, I am wiith Naina in the lack of X-Box... or any other console for that matter.
Laridian Maeronen - October 15, 2005 07:49 PM (GMT)
Oh, and I just got another notice on the game.. it will probably not be online. If it is not mass-produced, after all, there really wouldn't be any point. And there will not be any mass-production without the express permission of RJ, so. Self contained game.
Rownan Abeyta - October 15, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
So ...lets petiton RJ!!!!! Really, I think that if the game is done right, people will want to play it even if they have never even heard of the books. Allz I'm saying is, is that this has to be done right. Seamless transitions, detailed graphics. Lots of time work and money. Might as well go all the way, eh?
Laridian Maeronen - October 17, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
An Official Message of Awesomeness from ex-Shen head Sidivin:
"The game has been tentatively titled "The Wheel of Time, Age of Legends" and will (unless we randomly change our minds) be set years before the books sometime during the Age of Legends.
One feature we are really looking forward to demonstrating is a unique weaving system we are developing, where instead of pressing a button and "poof" something happens, the player must actually "weave" the Power himself. However, the player will still have the option of setting hotkeys or shortcuts for some of the simpler or low-level weaves (such as hurling a fireball or setting up a quick ward).
At this point the game is going to be entirely offline, but will be similar to Morrowind in scale so the player will have plenty to do. Time will also play a role in the game (we will release more on that as soon as we get some bugs worked out).
The website should be going up within a week or two, and should feature some concept art and more in-depth info on the game itself (hopefully we'll have some production screenshots as well).
Also, with your permission, I'd like to name one person in the game after each of you (because you people are so cool).
Thanks for your support. I was going to announce this at other WoT sites as well, but frankly this is the only one I hang out on anyway and I don't care about them. ;)"

darn i was hoping for
Guild Wars WoT Style..
Edeleas al'Kuar - October 25, 2005 03:02 AM (GMT)
I have another message from ex-Shen head Sidivin:
| QUOTE |
| I need ideas. I need permission from ppl to use their names/avvies. Any suggestions/ideas on what they'd like to see in a WoT game (NOT storyline related. We'll need that later. What we need now is ideas for FEATURES, WEAVES, ABILITIES, ect). |
and...he likes us all to keep this thread alive. ^_^
And some other thingies:
1. He'll provide an NPC list later so everyone could choose who they want to be (this'll be nifty. Can I be the evil NPC? :P)
2. There is also the possiblity of modeling the chars after our avatars. If they could do it, all we need to do is send them pics (wow! Imagine seeing Rialt walking down the street.)
Laridian Maeronen - October 25, 2005 03:42 AM (GMT)
In response to the modelling being based off of our avatars, I will be collecting everyone's avvies off the site and providing a sketchy, full-body base for everybody, so that things are a little easier on the modeller.
This might be me asking for an info overload, but if there's a specific manner of dress you picture your character in, or something they always carry on them, post it here and I'll add it to their picture.
Ash'aman will not be pictured in uniform, because the Age in which the game takes place, there are no such things as Ash'aman. Official Aes Sedai uniforms are still in the works (though it will likely be women white, men black, like the Aes Sedai symbol.)
So throw me a frikkin' bone here, people. Info is appreciated. :P
Edeleas al'Kuar - October 25, 2005 05:04 AM (GMT)
Maybe we can also design certain Ajah signs. Ajahs already existed at that time, right?
Resolute al'Therin - October 25, 2005 11:30 AM (GMT)
id love to be featured :D....as for more stuff ill think....
Edeleas al'Kuar - October 25, 2005 11:36 AM (GMT)
I'd like to be an armor seller or so.
Laridian Maeronen - October 25, 2005 07:45 PM (GMT)
Nope, this is back in the Ages where if you were a channeler, you were Aes Sedai. Age of Legends. As far as I know there were no Ajahs, just Aes Sedai. (Though if anyone wants to do the research on that, feel free.)

 I did remember reading from a book (I can't remember what exactly) about the mentioning of informal ajahs within the Aes Sedai. But maybe that's just me. :look
Sapphira Calren - October 25, 2005 10:43 PM (GMT)
ajahs came about after the Breaking when the female Aes Sedai decided to band back together, and began to create the Tower, so no Ajahs in the Age of Legends. :)
Oh my lord. I really wish you could all see my expression, this is amazing. I'm going to tell Zek, I started telling him today, but I can just imagine what he'll look like/say when I tell him all that. Seriously, that's awesome, this is amazing. :D Having it based in the Age of Legends is an amazing idea, I love it! :D
I'd absolutely LOVE to have Sapphira's face on someone in the game! I personally like her exactly the way my avy is, I just wish I could see detail on her face. :P I love the cloak. *nod*
Edeleas al'Kuar - October 26, 2005 01:12 AM (GMT)
Gyah. I have a memory problem. :P
I really hope they could pull out the modelling thingie. Be cool to ourselves in the streets, blasting enemies with fire... :look
Resolute al'Therin - October 26, 2005 02:44 AM (GMT)
they should base it off of Fusions...with mom n dads permission of course :P

I most definitely agree! :D
Sapphira Calren - October 26, 2005 07:28 PM (GMT)
That wouldn't exactly work, setting the site in the Second Age. ;) Of course, if there's anything here you want to put into the game, go right ahead! :D (BTW, if something happens to be in RP, be sure to ask the authors of the thread :))
Mirazhe Tomai - October 26, 2005 07:28 PM (GMT)
That'll be awesome!!! Now I really wanna see how everything turns out! :D
Laridian Maeronen - November 5, 2005 03:10 AM (GMT)
Sidivin has again requested me to update the general Fusions community, and is requesting comments from everyone on what they think of the system. Plus weaves they should include, which should be fun. Official propaganda and info below!
"Wielding the One Power
The weaving system we have in development has many components that are similar to those found in other games. However, weaving gets a great deal more in depth than the simple 'magic' systems found in most fantasy rpgs. Not only does it allow more control over a character, but it also delivers a superior role-playing experience to the player by limiting or expanding the character's abilities based upon those of the player.
Channeling
The most basic part of the system consists of three bars indicating the character's health, stamina, and the amount of the Power being wielded. In order to perform a weave, the player MUST be wielding the Power. To grasp/embrace the One Power a player presses the "*" key on the numpad. This places the player in the heightened state of awareness associated with channeling that is usually called the "oneness" (in this stage the One Power is not actually being channeled). The amount of Power being wielded can be adjusted using the plus and minus keys on the numpad, although in some cases this amount may increase or decrease on it's own given that certain criteria are met during gameplay (i.e. when certain weaves or ter'angreal draw extra Power, etc.).
As long as any amount of the Power is being channeled, the player's stamina will diminish. The lower the stamina goes, the more difficult it will become to perform weaves. If the player runs out of stamina, he or she will be unable to channel effectively. Further attempts at channeling will cause the player to loose HP. Also, if a player attempts to channel more than he or she is capable, health is steadily detracted from his or her life bar. Certain items called angreal and sa'angreal can be used to extend the maximum amount that a player can channel. Also, certain weaves or objects of the Power can be used to increase stamina, but these should be used sparingly as they detract from a player's health over time.
Weaving
To perform a weave a player must input a specific key sequence while wielding the One Power. These key sequences involve holding specific letters called “gate keys” down on the main keyboard while using the numpad to input the specific weave sequence. All weaves are divided into classes, or groups, with each group assigned its own “gate key.” In order to set a ward, for example, the player must hold down the gate key or keys assigned to wards and input the specific weave’s key sequence on the numpad. Once the weave sequence is successfully completed, the weave will execute automatically. The player must be cautious, however. An incorrect weave sequence can have disastrous results. Each weave also requires a minimum amount of the Power to perform, and in most cases will not execute properly (if at all) unless there is a sufficient amount of the One Power being channeled.
Weaving With Elements
The five elements of the One Power (earth, fire, air, water, and spirit) are represented by keys on the numpad as follows: earth = 2, fire = 4, air = 8, water = 6, and spirit = 5. Seven, nine, one, and three can be used for combinations of the five powers simultaneously.
So yeah... feel free to comment. ^_^
Marian Skylas - November 5, 2005 06:13 AM (GMT)
Holy crap. This is the first time I've read through the whole thread... I'm in awe. Amazing... And crazy cool. :o
Sapphira Calren - November 5, 2005 02:13 PM (GMT)
That's amazing! :D What weaves to include? Light, there's such a list! Just to name a few, definately Healing and Travelling. :)
Lyla - November 5, 2005 02:44 PM (GMT)
wow!
that's all I can say, really. how did they manage to think of all that? it sounds so complecated to do... it would make a great game *nods*
about the weaves... have some simple ones, like fireballs, and some utterly difficult to preform (long and confuzzling sequences and a great amount of minimum power required) but super cool weaves (balefire. I want balefire! :look)
Edeleas al'Kuar - November 5, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
Or maybe those who follow the Light has different access from those whose loyalties lie with the Shadow. :look I would be Shadow if ever :P
Oh yeah, Sid also needs help. Anyway, here are the cities of the AoL that I remember (anyone, if you know more, please add to the list!)
- Paaran Disen
- Collam Daan(?)
- Can Breat (?)
- Shorelle
- Tzora
Katrina Borudan - November 9, 2005 12:27 AM (GMT)

Katrina Borudan - November 9, 2005 12:33 AM (GMT)
btw, would this game be available for PC aswell? It sounds really exciting, but I only have a PC...(well and my gameboy advance :P)
Sidivin Yahbree - November 9, 2005 01:07 AM (GMT)
Thank you SO MUCH for this list. It is a very good start and I really owe you for it (I've been too busy programming the darn channeling system to think about the actual weaves). We would like to include as many unique weaves as possible in the game (possibly several hundred or even thousands) so please feel free to "make up" some weaves of your own. Remember, this is the Age of Legends, so we can do pretty much whatever we want. Be creative!
Also, as of now the game is scheduled for PC only. It may also be compatible with Mac, but we won't know until further along in the development.
