Title: Unauthorised Gambling (the City)
Description: Sneaking out the Tower for some fun
Shaya - September 16, 2004 11:19 AM (GMT)
She had planned this trip carefully, even if she was acting on an urge to simply have fun.
She had only been in the Tower for a couple of weeks, but already it felt like the walls were closing in on her.
She knew the penalty for running away from the Tower, but surely a little trip into the City would cause no harm?
Shaya had come to the conclusion that any penance would be worth it, just to have a drink and some good company for a change.
She had left her hated novice dress behind and managed to climb out her window and down the wall quietly after her roommate was asleep.
She knew the Tower was heavily guarded, but she had found a spot in the gardens earlier that she thought would be perfect to sneak over the wall. She landed softly
on her feet on the other side and stopped to listen if no alarms were called from inside. There was nothing and Shaya let out a slilent breath. She used the cover of some shrubs and the treeline till she reached the city and smoothed down her dress. She had not had a decent drink in too long, so the plan was to find a nice and busy inn, where another face in the crowd would not stand out and have a good time for a few hours before going back to her room before the first waking bell was sounded.
Fortunately they had not taken everything from her and although the dress she wore was a lot more plain than she would have liked, at least it wasn't a novice dress and her purse even held a few coins.
It would have to do for a couple of glasses of wine, otherwise she could easily lift a purse or two from someone who looked like he didn't need it.
The streetlanterns in the city were lit and by their light it was not hard to find the tavern. In fact, all she had to do was follow the steady trickle of men on their way to some entertainment. It was a normal weekday for the Stag and Hound and it was less busy than Shaya would have hoped, still she felt better already just for being somewhere where people were enjoying themselves. Shaya knew that it was all about attitude, so she walked in like she had every right to be there and held herself with grace and elegance.
With the dress she was wearing she would fool no one into thinking she was rich, but perhaps they would take her for a well off merchant of some kind.
She sat down in a corner from where she could check the place out and ordered a pitcher of the finest wine. She grimaced inwardly as she learned the price of it, it seemed Tar Valon was very expensive. She paid the coin without flinching as if she had expected nothing less and leaned back in her chair with her cup to enjoy the not half bad wine.
There were a few men over in a one corner who were getting ready to indulge in a game of cards and Shaya's eyes lit up. It would be so much fun to see if she had not lost her skill with the cards, although she would have to be careful. She could not risk the men remembering her too well should someone come asking for her.
Keeping one eye on the door so she could keep an eye on whoever came in, she drained her cup and started to get up to walk over to the men

(OOC: Hope you dont mind, but I think I've posted everywhere else...)
Sidivin noticed the girl as soon as she came through the door. There was something about her that was familliar, something about her face... He never forgot a face, and this one he had seen before. She took a place in a corner and ordered a pitcher of wine. She must be expecting company, or is fool enough to drink it all herself. He finished off his own glass and waved down a serving maid for another. Recognition hit him like a bolt of lightning. She's a bloody novice!! Suddenly the girl rose and began making her way across the room towards a group of rough looking gamblers. I don't think so, Novice. You and I need to talk.
He channeled, forming the all-too-familliar weaves he so often practiced. The space in front of the Novice began to shimmer, but she continued, oblivious to the man chanelling. The weaves wrapped around the novice, forming a complete sphere that enclosed only her. It wouldn't do to have the whole common room see this... beter to keep it contained. Slowly, he bent the weaves, merging them with his table. To the novice, it seemed as if the room had shifted. To the rest of the people, they were so full of liquor the room was shifting anyway. The table with the gamblers had moved, while in their former place stood only an empty table. She blinked and shook her head. She probably thinks the wine has allready begun to work on her, poor lass. But she is breaking the rules...
The novice continued, altering her course slightly to adjust for her "mistake." Now she was heading directly for Sidivin's table. Three feet from the table, she crossed the edge of his weaves and stopped. The gamblers had vanished, leaving a very irritated man in their place. "Good evening, novice. Or is it morning? You must be tired, staying up so long after you curfew. Here, have a seat, I believe you have some explaining to do."
Shaya - October 12, 2004 12:10 PM (GMT)
As Shaya reached the middle of the room, the whole world suddenly seemed to spin for a few seconds. She shook her head to clear it, it was very unlike her to have dizzy spells like that. She frowned when the table she had been headed to suddenly seemed to be to her left, instead of in front of her. Shaya decided there was something decidedly unnerving going on, as she was sure it was not the wine affecting her so. For a few panicky seconds she wondered if she had been poisoned. But the dizzyness had passed as soon as it had come and she felt completely normal now.
She silently resolved not to finish the wine whatever the case and continued making her way to the men at the table. Maybe some minor victories at the cards would take her mind of things. It was most likely all due to the stress she had been under since being hauled of to the Tower. She was just about to put a sway in her step and mould her lips into an inviting smile, when the table in front of her seemed to flicker for the merest instant again and instead of looking down at the three men she had expected, there was only one. Shaya nearly jumped for the shock of it all, but managed to compose herself with only a slight falter to her step. The black coat the man was wearing told her more than she wanted to know and there was very little compromise in those steely grey eyes when he ordered her to sit down and explain herself. Shaya swallowed as she sat down at the table. Anger and anticipation made her cheeks flush. She thought she wouldn't have minded so much to be caught out at the end of the evening, but to be caught before she even had a chance to properly commit the crime she was about to punished for, seemed very bitter to swallow indeed. Shaya's mind worked overtime as she considered her options. She could make a run for it, but he would wrap her up with his power as easy as a newborn babe. She could try and pretend she was not who he thought she was, afterall, surely the Asha'men had better things to do than to keep track of all the novices that came to the Tower? But then she had already sat down meekly at his command, to feign incomprehension now would be hard to pull off.
Another option would be to lie and claim she had been send down on an errand, but that was even less likely and easily verified with any Aes Sedai she could name.
Her only option was to throw every bit of charm she could muster at the man and hope he would he would send her back to her rooms with a slap on the wrist.
Casting a quick glance on his face from under her lashes, she did not think he was the kind that could be swayed by the tears of a disobedient and petulant child. No, here was a man who admired strength, not weakness. Taking a delicate and deep breath to draw attention to her better assets, she brushed her hair back over her shoulders and met his gaze with a slow smile. He might be an asha'man, but hopefully there was also a man of flesh and blood underneath that icy exterior.
"I fear there is nothing to explain, Asha'man. I very much needed a break from the Tower and I was hoping I could have a drink and share the company of a goodlooking man before going back to my studies and duties with renewed energy." She held his gaze and let her smile grow a tat more sensuous, as she made it clear who she meant when she talked about a goodlooking man. She knew she was playing a more dangerous game now then she had intended when walking over to that table to play cards, but then she was in trouble anyway, she might as well try and get everything out of it she could.
Dolon Taravin - October 12, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
Dolon donned blue silk trousers and a blue silk shirt with gold embroidery before heading into town for the night. He was in the mood for some good music and some Spiced Wine. He put on a cloak to match and made his way to his favorite Tavern. As he passed the many Asha'man through the halls he noticed many sending wry glances towards his clothes. He kept on without anymore than a slight nod, and an occasional wink or two towards some young novices he had in class.
The fresh air and cool breeze of the night was pleasant as Dolon walked down the brightly lit streets. He came upon the tavern and walked over to the bar, "A pitcher of Spiced Wine, please, and perhaps a few pastries if you have them tonight," he said to the barmaid with a smile. She replied with a smile and a nod. The music tonight was played by two men with a harp and flute. There was a small group of men playing cards at a table in the corner and a game of dice at the other end of the Tavern.
Suddenly Dolon felt a man channel and turned around to see Sidivin at a table using his Illusion on Shaya whom he had in class. Rolling his eyes he watched Shaya being lead to Sidivin before he released her. When the flows disappeared she jumped a little before sitting down across from him. Clearly trying to make up some story of why she was there past Novice curfew. "Here you go, sir" the barmaid said with a smile. Dolon handled her a few Andoran Gold Crowns with a wink, she giggled and went back into the kitchen. Taking a bite of the pastry, Dolon picked up the cup of wine and went over to sit next to Shaya.
Sidivin Yahbree - October 13, 2004 12:19 AM (GMT)
Sidivin sighed. Who did this girl think he was, to be taken in by her little flirtations? She was trying to flirt, and it was obvious to any man with a wit worth a grain of rice. "First of all, novice, I am to be addressed as Rei." He said that part with a bitter twist of his tounge. He liked formalities even less than having to use his athourity, but this time it was certainly called for as she needed to understand the wieght of her transgresion.
"Second of all, you will cease trying to flirt with me. I am old enough to be your grandfather twice over. By all rights I should be sending you to the Mistress of Novices without question, but you will find me not so hard as some others, and I will allow you to attempt to convince me that I should not." He suddenly noticed Dolon making his way across the room. He had his eyes on the seat next to Shaya. "Well, well, novice. Looks like you could be on your way after all. I do not believe Dolon has the same philosophy concerning unruly novices as I, but he may be in a favorable mood."
Dolon Taravin - October 13, 2004 06:07 AM (GMT)
Dolon used harsh tones when speaking to the young girl, but perhaps in this case it was required. "Sidivin, must you always be picking on the young ones? This ones naive and I have her in class. She's smart, perhaps too smart, but I like it. So Shaya, if you can convince us that you are worthy to be breaking the rules and come out here this late at night, I will cover for you and say I was taking out for a lesson on Architecture. But, if you can't, you will be running petty erands for myself and Sidivin for weeks."
Dolon motioned for the pitcher of spiced wine to be brought over to the table and asked for some extra cups. Fetching a stack of cards from beneath his cloak Dolon stated, "First, best two out of three wins." He dealt the cards to himself, Sidivin, and Shaya with a smile. The girls grin suddenly got wider and he grinned back. "Good luck," and with a wink they started the game.
Shaya - October 13, 2004 09:41 AM (GMT)
(OOC: running petty errands for two goodlooking men for weeks is supposed to put me off? )
Shaya's seductive smile faltered as her attempts slid off him like butter from a hot plate. She was not used to being rejected like she was some blundering simple farmgirl who just made a pass at a sophisticated noble. She silently cursed the day they had taken away her dresses and her face powders. Hurt pride, indignation and wariness battled inside her, as she made an attempt to appear meek and abashed. Not only seemed he be immune to her charm, he also treated her as if she was some slip of a girl who was just old enough to not wear her hair in braids.
Shaya had stopped thinking about herself as a girl about the same time she realised she could get ahead in the world by being as much of a woman as the men she met wanted her to be. By now it was just about the only way she knew how to communicate with them.
Ofcourse she knew some of the Asha'man were as old as some of the Aes Sedai, but somehow she had been convinced that men would be men no matter their age. Apparantly the fact that they lived so much longer than most made them loose their taste for life, she thought petulantly. Shaya realised that her troubles had only just begun, when they were joined by Rei Dolon, whom she recognised from her classes. Shaya felt like banging her head on the table. If she didn't know any better she would think someone had cursed all her luck away. To her surprise, her teacher spoke words she had not expected to hear at this point and Shaya suddenly perked up. Now here was a challenge she could deal with! With the other man's words in the back of her mind, she realised that there could be some vast experience with cards present at this table, but she still felt confident she might be able to beat them. Giving Rei Dolon a grateful and somewhat cheeky smile she gave the other one a questioning look as she gestured at the cards that had been dealt to her.
"If you will permit me, Rei?" She knew it would be a very bad idea to surpass the man's authority in this case. There was nothing but wary respect in her voice, she would not humiliate herself again by offering what was not wanted.
