Rownan moved with his usual caution through the grounds of the Tower. Were he to be caught, there were a thousand lies he could tell...some of them convincing enough to fool his mentor, but all of them would land him extra shifts in the stable, or cleaning the weapons after practise, as well as the first black mark against his record here. Rownan had to hide a small smile that twiched one corner of his mouth. Since coming to this place he had broken nearly every rule they had set to paper, and some that they would never have thought of. Not once had he been caught. Rownan allowed himself the barest flicker of pride before squashing it utterly. Pride led to mistakes. And even the slightest slip would leave him watched. Though everyone else breaks the rules at least once and awhile. Rownan shrugged. Perhaps he was singled out for the fact that he, out of almost all the recruits, didn't get into trouble. Rownan shrugged and slipped in the shadows of the ash trees, a shadow himself. With a grimace, he pulled his hood farther over his face. One of these days, he would have to do something about his unusually pale skin. He might as well paint himself red and ask someone to notice him. Besides that he did not like the way the other students looked at it...Though it is odd. Whiter then chaulk, not even a hint of olive. His skin forced him to cover up with a cloak even on the warm nights...like tonight.
Which in the end, was probably the reason why he was followed. Rownan noticed it a few minutes after he reached the south end of the garden. Who it was he did not know, nor did he particurlarly care. Whoever it was, he had to get rid of them before he went about his nights word. Should not be difficult to loose them. I still have half an hour before the wall climber arrives. I will just... A rustling behind him brought his attention to the wall. A twisted, rat-like figure scampered over to him. Rownan's heart threatened to skip a beat. Not daring to risk a glance behind him and thus warn his tracker, Rownan tried to walk on as if he did not see the person he came forward to meet. The stupid fellow would not allow him. "Hsst! Over here!" If there had not been witnesses, Rownan would have cheerfully killed the rat-face without a qualm. Perhaps a bluff would work. But only if the idiot was smarter then he appeared. Rownan did not hold out any hope but tried anyway. "I don't know who you are...or what business you think you have climbing over the walls at this or any hour but..." As he half expected the man interrupted him in a soft, but very auditable whisper. "I know you for what you are. Stop dwaddling and take your poisons. You have your targets. Our master would be very disappointed if you failed."
Rownan had just about had it with the odious little man. "The only reason I could possibly fait, you pretentious oaf, is if you speak one more word." Rownan slipped the poisons into his belt purse. "Now get out of here before I do something I'll never regret." He could feel his tracker shifting, possibly trying to get a better position, pulling a weapon, or even moving away. They had to be stopped. Whoever it was. Rownan sighed. Yet another murder he did not have time for. All thanks to the stupid rat-face who was even now scuttling back over the wall. I would have killled you now...except that would have taken too long. Later rat-face, when I have time for you. Rownan turned and deliberatly looked in the direction of the person who had followed him. Best to have it done.
