Sitting up in a tree, Dela thinks about what she has given up. Given up the chance to a normal life for a unbelievable exciting and wondrous life. Has she truly given up anything? Dela who has been asking herself this question for the past few days finally decide she hasn't, or did she........
At the age of 2 Dela's family had moved from the only home she has ever known, for a life that she could never handle. Dela's father (Chad) had been accepted as a traveling painter and decided to travel the land, painting for anyone who could afford to buy his paintings. Being the daughter of a traveling painter wasn't an easy life for Dela. They were always moving every 2 years. In the first Town they moved to Dela did not get along with the other toddlers, because they're parents didn't think it would be a good idea to let their children to be around her. They had thought that she would be a rowdy child with a discipline problem.
By the age of 4 they had moved into another town, here Dela was able to make a few friends. The few friends Dela had manage to make, made it painful for her when she had to leave that following Spring, she had grown to be comfortable there. Dela's mother (Megan) had notice how much her daughter did not like the move and did almost everything she could to make it less painful for her only daughter. In the next town Dela decided, it would be for the best if she tried not to make any friends, that way it would be easier to move. But it wasn't that easy, she couldn't help herself and ended up making a few friends. This is where Dela had made a best friend her name was Sharissa, who both thought they'd be friends forever and both wished every night that Dela's father would decide to stay. But wishes don't always come true, Dela and her family moved once again. She was angry at her parents for moving, and very sad because she had left her first real best friend, but eventually she decided that she must accept this fate and move on.
At the age of 8 Dela was getting fed up with all the moving and argued with her father more and more often. Her mother who didn't approve of the arguments, talk to Dela and her father. Which had only made matters worst. Out of all the arguments they had during those few years, the one that stood out the most is when Dela had scream at her father saying I HATE YOU!, and as soon as those words were out of her mouth she immediately start saying sorry I didn't mean it which went on for hours. But her father said nothing. Finally when Dela was on the brink of tears, her father just said don’t be sorry I deserve to be hated, I failed you as a father, and walked out the door. The next day when Dela came home from school her Mother was crying and Father was packing Dela's bag.
When her father seen her he said "I know some people in a few Towns north you will be going to live with them and have a normal life, the one I failed to give you."
"Why? Why can't I just stay with mother?" ask Dela who was more than just a little confused.
"I need your mother to be with me, she's my assistant and my inspiration, letting you go has hurt me enough...." pause " don’t worry I trust these people, you'll be safe"
Over the next few days Dela tried to convince her father that she'd like the moving but her father remained unconvinced. Finally the people she'd be living with arrived. The people she'd be living with were as her father had told her nice, well-mannered and trustworthy.
Upon moving in with the al'Hiters, Dela quickly adapted to her new life. Being taught by Mistress al'Hiter in history, reading, writing, learning how to cook, and the different chores that were required of her. Also being taught by Master al'Hiter in riding, hunting, and the trade, even though those weren't skills she'd make much use of. Dela had manage not thinking of her parents, it wasn't until her 10th birthday rolled around did she realized how much she truly missed them. The al'Hiters did their best to give her a good birthday but it just wasn't the same. Dela deeply sadden by the emptiness and lost of their absence(sp?) ask to write a letter and find some one to take it to them. The al'Hiter who were willing to do anything to make Dela happy once again agreed to find the messenger. The letter Dela wrote:
Dear Mother and Father,
I miss you very much I wish I were still with you, well sometimes anyway. I truly do miss you but not the moving around. Everything you had said about the al'Hiter is true Father and so much more. They have taught me a great amount of things, though I do wish I had learned to paint. I have come to love and appreciate art more now. Well I just wanted to tell you that I miss you and love you, and hope to see you again soon.
your daughter
Dela al'Zitha
With the letter written and sent Dela was happy again, or at least most of the time. One day as Dela was playing a game of tag with a few friends, she seen her father and mother. With the feeling of joy Dela ran as fast as she to them. Once in her father's strong arms Dela felt as though they had never been apart and wished it were true. Dela had missed them both deeply and wished that she could have stayed but knowing that they moved a lot had sadden her so much when she was with them.
"You certainly grown since the last time I saw you" said Chad as he put Dela back at arms' length.
"Oh my your right" pause " it looks like the dress I made wont fit you" says Megan as she beams down at Dela.
"I have missed you so much, did you get my letter?" said Dela as she looks lovingly at her parents
"Yes, we did that's why we came to see you" said Megan "now where's the al'Hiters?"
As they walk back to the al'Hiters house Dela tells them all about the adventures she had and all the Friends she had made. Dela who was so excited about seeing her parents, forgot all about the game of tag with her friends, until her friend Tohru came running up to her, and said "where are you going?"
"oh I'm sorry you guys will have to finish without me" pause "These are my parents Megan and Chad al'Zitha" said Dela.
After Tohru introduced herself and welcomed them into town she left back to the game of tag. Dela, feeling as though she couldn't be happier, suddenly became suspicious of why her parents came all this way instead of just sending a letter back, but she did not let it show she figure she'd find out sooner or later. Once at the al'Hiters house Dela burst happily into the room and exclaim with pure delight that her parents were here. That night they celebrated the coming of Dela's parents until they all grew to tired to talk.
The next day when Dela, awaken she felt as though yesterday was a dream. But of course it wasn't and Megan and Chad al'Zitha were sitting in the kitchen with the al'Hiters, talking in a hush voice. Dela-who usually was good at telling when something was going on--narrow her eyes and study them each.
"Is there something I should know about?" she asked suddenly that caused a squeak of surprise from her mother.
"Dela, your awake" said Mistress al'Hiter, who looked as though she had been crying.
Not saying anything, Dela went over to her and wrapped her arms around her. Suddenly everything became clear, the reason why her parents traveled here.
"I...I...I think I know what's going on" said Dela as she study her parents "I'll come with you, only if we live in one place, or I'll be staying here with the al'Hiters"
"How did you know?" said Chad with a puzzle look, that disappeared when he continued, "Dela you truly are clever, we will be living outside of the city of Tar Valon, on a farm, I bought a few months ago"
After talking to the al'Hiters and sorting everything out, Dela went and packed her bags. Then with a final hug goodbye to the al'Hiters and her friends, Dela left to start another life with her parents. Filled with both happiness and sadness, Dela force herself to show only happiness -she had become very good at this skill- talked non-stop to her parents and learned that she had a younger brother who had stayed behind at the farm with a nanny. Once they arrived at the farm Dela was surprised by how big it was and how many animals it had.
Dela seen the farm as a chance to learn more things, and she could teach her little brother all the things she had learned for the al'Hiters, once he was old enough that is. The first few days were difficult for Dela to adjust to. After all there was no 1 year old baby at the al'Hiter or so many different noises. Dela did her best to adjust and her baby brother(Eric) helped with that, he had accepted her almost instantly.
Few years later on Eric's 3rd birthday, Dela had decided that she wanted to take him into the Tar Valon and let him pick something out at the market. Their parents were reluctant at first but allowed them to go. Once in Tar Valon Dela took Eric to a toy store where he had picked out a wooden sword, it was at this toy store where Dela saw her first Aes Sedai. As soon as Dela saw this woman she knew that she wanted to be like her, and have the appearance that deserved respect. On the way all Dela could think about was how to become like that woman she had seen. Once at home she played with Eric until it was time to eat. Once around the table Dela told her parents about the woman she had seen and ask if she could ever be like that.
"Dela you can be, but those type of woman are called Aes Sedai and they hold an ability that is rare" said Chad
"now now Chad, Dela might have that ability" said Megan
"I suppose that's true" pause "How about on your 15th birthday we'll take you to the Tower to be tested by an Aes Sedai" said her father.
The day finally came, Dela's 15th birthday. Chad stayed home with Eric, while Megan took Dela to the Tower. Once at the Tower they requested a audience with the Amyrlin Seat, and were told to wait a few days before she could arrange a test for Dela.
4 days later, in the Front hall, Dela was tested by an Accepted. As it turned out Dela had the spark and was ask to return after her 16th birthday, to be enter in the Novice Book. All the way home Dela was excited, anxious and just a tad sad about having to leave her parents again. But Dela stayed strong, afterall she had to set a good exmple for Eric, in case he ever had to leave home. Home that was a word that never seemed to be perment to Dela. After all she moved in 15 years then anyone she has ever ment.
Even through all the sadness that she felt, Dela made the most of the year. Teaching her brother to ride, swim, a little bit of reading and writing, and how to make different types of bird noises. She also learned to paint from her father and how to bake perfect pastries from her mother. Dela spent alot of time with Eric making sure that he would remember her once he was older. It would pain her deeply if he ever forgot her. When the day came for Dela to leave, they threw a party and went with her to the gates of the Tower, then let her finish the rest of the way by herself. Dela looked back before entering the Tower, and the sight she seen made her want to cry. This was the last time she would see her family in at least 10 years. Dela scolded herself when she felt a trickle of a tear roll down her cheek and brushed it away. She wasn't given up anything, she was giving herself something.
Inside the Tower walls Dela went to the Front Hall and then was escorted to the Mistress of Novice's Study by an Accepted where she was entered in the Novice Book. And that's where Dela's path truly begins.
Looking back Dela realized that perhaps she did give something up but had gained something more. Dela still wonders from time to time weather they have forgotten her and moved on with their lives, or if she still remained in their hearts.
Edit by Sapphira: spell-check complete
It's a good story save one thing.
It's very unlikely that a girl would go to the Amyrlin to be tested, since any random Accepted can do it.
Aside from that, I like it, though I'd like to know more about how Dela feels when she has to leave any given place. I'd like to know more about how she felt leaving the only long-term home she ever had, with the al'Hiters. Also, how did she feel about that last year at home? You said she was a bit sad, but that she made the most of it. Did she ever worry or dread it? Was it difficult for her to, once again, move away, after she thought she had finally found a permanent home?
I tweak the words a bit but I'm not sure on how to tweak them to describe how I would feel about the moves..other then what I had put in already. because in general all the emotions are kinda tied in with each other or hidden deeply in the words.
I'm going to go ahead and approve it on a few conditions.
One, you have to spell check it. If you don't have the means to do that, let me know and I will do it for you.
Two, try to tell me a bit more about Dela's personality in here. I understand the story and its a good one, and I know she was upset about moving, but aside from that, I wouldn't know what kind of person she was aside from her not wanting to move around alot.
and then of course, follow Mother's advice.
hello again sorry it took so long but i lost the addy and just recently got it from Hanajima. I would greatly accpet your help M'haelRialt if you could spell Check it for me. i also hope that this is accpetable. *curties*
K, I'm running a spell check now, but other than that, here we go:
I really like the edits you've made, it's definately coming alone, however I'd still like to know more about her last year at home and how she felt. After all, she stipulated she'd only move from the al'Hiters' if she knew she wouldn't have to move any more, and all of a sudden she finds out she's moving yet again. Even though it's for something she dreams of, I still think her emotions on the subject would be more complex than "Dela was excited, anxious and just a tad sad about having to leave her parents again." I'd like to really see inside. Remember, she's not only leaving her parents, but she's leaving a place that is a real home, and her new little brother.
So, add that, and I'll call it approved. Feel free to being RPing now though! :)
ok I added some stuff toward the end 3 & 4 last ones. I really didn't want to put to much more in in fear of ruining. Because right now my mind keeps wandering.
Alright, looks better now. And the Light knows you've worked hard on this bio, so....approved! :D
Thank You, Mother! *hugs* ^^
