History:
Xaria was the daughter of a Murandian tailor, his only child. Her mother died in childbirth, and Xaria's father cherished her all the more as the last legacy of his beloved wife. He sheltered her from the world, but Xaria wanted only to learn everything about it. She was a curious child, and was quite a handful for her young father. He wanted her to have everything she desired, but he was only a mediocre tailor, and lived a simple life. Xaria did not mind, though. Curious as she was, she grew to be a kind young girl and showed the promise of a dutiful wife. The skills she had to learn as the only woman in her home would be useful for managing her own home someday. Xaria did not want that though, she feared it more than anything else. She wanted to learn about the world, to travel, not to be trapped in some man's house raising his children. Xaria knew that that made her different form from the other girls in town, all of them wanted to be a wife and mother as soon as possible. Xaria never told her father how she felt, she knew how hard he worked for her and did not want to disappoint him. By the time she was fourteen, Xaria had had enough of housework, though she never complained. Xaria got along well with the other children in the town, as a fairly passive child. As she approached her teens, she changed slowly. Children began to wonder about her lack of mother, and Xaria found herself on the defensive more and more often. She voiced more of her opinions, and stopped backing down when others disagreed. Despite all of this, she could still only be described as kind, if opinionated and stubborn.
When she was fifteen, there was a strange visitor to the town in which Xaria lived. The rumors named the woman Aes Sedai, and Xaria had to see for herself. She went that night to the inn in which the woman was staying. To the surprise of all present, Xaria had hardly approached the crowd when the Aes Sedai addressed her. The woman said she wished to speak with Xaria later, when most of the crowd had gone. Xaria spent the rest of the evening wondering fearfully what she was in for. Finally, several hours later, Xaria was able to find out her fate. The Aes Sedai told her that she could channel, and would need to return to the Tower with her. Xaria was both terrified and ecstatic at once. She was finally getting the opportunity to travel, as she had always wanted, but to really leave home? To go to the White Tower and become Aes Sedai? She went home that night in a daze. She hardly remembered telling her father, but did remember leaving the following week. It was a tearful departure, but by that time Xaria was also looking forward to going to the Tower. The journey was uneventful, and Xaria was able to learn little about the Tower from the Aes Sedai. What she did learn made all that she did not know much more mysterious. The journey served to whet her curiosity, making it seem very long.
After a few weeks, they arrived in Tar Valon. Xaria was amazed, how could any place be this amazing? Xaria applied herself excitedly to novice life. After a few months in the tedious, difficult life of a novice, Xaria began to despair. She knew that most women were novices for about ten years, and that thought was almost too much for her. She continued to work hard, but it proved more and more difficult. Finally, Xaria realized that she could not go on in this manner, she would not make it. So, Xaria refused to allow herself to cry again, or tried to anyway. It took her quite a while, but Xaria was finally able to banish most of her negative emotions. After that her training progressed quickly, and after twelve years as a novice, Xaria was raised to the ring and banded dress of the Accepted.
As Accepted, Xaria rededicated herself. She found herself immensely grateful for her self-training as a novice, if not for that, she probably would have been able to withstand the horrors of the Arches. Her regrets following those were formidable as it was, she disliked thinking about how it might have been. Xaria loved choosing her own studies, and enjoyed learning. She still retained her childhood curiosity, and it was rewarded immensely as Accepted. After a few years as Accepted. Xaria began to look toward the Ajahs. Immediately the Brown appeared as the most logical choice, and for some time Xaria thought that that would be her future Ajah. She did not stop looking there, though, and searched at least briefly into each Ajah. Most of them held no interest for her, but the White also proved to draw her in. Their use of logic and lack of discernable emotion appealed to Xaria. The more time she spent with each of the two Ajahs, the more each fit her, and Xaria became no closer to a decision.
Finally, after thirteen years as Accepted, Xaria was summoned to her final test to become Aes Sedai. She passed, and spent the night in contemplation of many things. Though she had an entire night to think of her future, Xaria was unable to decide on an Ajah. After swearing her Oaths, Xaria took several minutes more weighing the pros and cons of the White and Brown Ajahs. Eventually, she chose the White and was welcomed as the newest sister into the most logical of Ajahs. Xaria knew that many other Ajahs would have had something of a party for the new sister, but the Whites believed such things illogical, and started immediately at teaching her all the new things she needed to know. Xaria did not miss the party she would have received as a Brown, it was a small price to pay. She immediately was awed by the lack of any emotion- good or bad -in all of the sisters. It was not difficult for her to train her remaining emotions to near non-existence.
Xaria would not have traded her status as Aes Sedai of the White for anything. After only a few weeks as Aes Sedai she knew that she had made the right choice of Ajah. She applied herself to her new job, and set about proving herself. Xaria ended up being one of the strongest channelers, few topped her in overall strength, and she learned how to manipulate her added power to her advantage. Several years after her raising to the White, another girl took on the white-fringed shawl, a woman named Arkalon. Xaria took an immediate liking to the woman, and became a good friend to her. Xaria was willing to do anything for her friend, and they could often be found puzzling something out together.
Forty years after being raised to the shawl, Xaria was elected to the Sitter of the White Ajah. She represented her Ajah well, using all the logic she had learned in her years. For years Xaria represented the White Ajah along with other Sitters, and helped to make decisions for the Towers. She sat in the Hall throughout the Aiel War, and helped as she could with Healing. Xaria had very little skill in that area, but did as she could to keep a very few from death until a more skilled Healer could arrive. As far as Healing went, Xaria could only truly cure a cough or a minor bruise. After the war, for years Xaria existed peacefully as a Sitter for the White Ajah, once again the world righted itself. For a while. After years as a Sitter, Xaria met a man named Lucius, and got to know him on a trip out of the Tower, he was a Gaidin, but she had never met him before. The night they met, he saved her life twice, earning her trust. When she returned to the Tower, she brought him back with her as her Warder. Most Whites did not bond, but Xaria saw the logic behind having a guard, one never knew when the world would change drastically- Xaria knew it could as well as anyone. Years later, Lucius once again saved her life, but in doing so revealed something drastic to her. He used the Power. Xaria could not feel saidin, of course, but she recognized the uses of the Power. Lucius was a male channeler. She immediately thought that Lucius had known that, and hidden it from her. Although he had saved her life with what he had done, her anger and sense of betrayal got the better of her. And, the other sisters would not accept a woman who was bonded to a male channeler. She knew that he would likely be killed or gentled, and she had no desire to see that happen to her Warder. So, she masked the bond and gave no explanation to other sisters. Xaria had considered dissolving the bond, but she thought that the connection, though unfelt, may prove useful. She did not know at the time that the man would one day be the leader of the Asha'man.
A man named Rand al'Thor showed himself to be the Dragon Reborn, but more importantly, the Tower split. Xaria, who thought she would do anything for Arkalon, and Arkalon anything for her, found herself split as well. Xaria thought it completely wrong for the Aes Sedai to abandon the Amyrlin, even if she did get her stole in such a manner. Arkalon stood in the other camp, and they argued about it. Finally, they could only decide to part ways, much as it hurt both of them. While the Tower was split, the world changed drastically. Rebuilding the Tower could not come soon enough, the reunion of Arkalon and Xaria was a happy one. Soon after that, though, came the Last Battle. Though the Dark One was defeated, nothing was accomplished, the world ended up in the state it had been before, but with Asha'man in the mix now. Soon after the Tower was rebuilt, and the Last Battle finished, it became common knowledge that Elayne, a Green sister, had adopted a sister. At first, very few understood what that meant, but as time progressed, it became clear, and other sisters even started to do the same. Among some of the first were Arkalon and Xaria, they had long been very close friends, and the Tower's split had shown them both just how much their friendship meant. They adopted each other as near, and soon after first-sisters, and Xaria has never regretted it.
Not quite fifteen years later, the current Amyrlin died. Xaria was elected to take her place, and accepted, though the offer was unexpected. She chose Arkalon as her Keeper without hesitation, and was delighted when the Hall deemed her worthy. Xaria reigned over the Aes Sedai for twenty-six years, fairly peaceful aside from the Asha'man. That was shattered when the Seanchan attacked. At first, Xaria tried to stay out of the conflict, but it became clear that Asha'man and Whitecloaks were not enough, and all were forced to draw a temporary truce. Combined, the three forces were able to drive the invaders out, but almost immediately fell back to their three-sided war for dominion. In the fifty years since, nothing has been resolved, and it does not look as if it will ever be.
Xaria currently looks for new ways to defeat those pompous male channelers, and the ever-swelling Whitecloaks, now accepting women as well. She rules the Tower with the iron fist of a White perfectionist, ever seeking more power for the Aes Sedai. She has ruled the Tower for seventy-six years, making her the longest-reigning Amyrlin since Bonwhin. Some few whisper that such a long rule is not a good thing, but Xaria shows no signs of dying, and will not vacate her position until she does so. The years have added wisdom, and she still possesses her thirst for knowledge, and belief that emotions are illogical. Her friendship with Arkalon is as strong as ever, and she is thankful that her trusted friend is the Keeper. Her dislike and distrust of men, Asha’man in particular, is deep- largely seeded in perceived deceit by Lucius years before. She neither likes nor respects the man, and looks forward to the day that their past can help her achieve the downfall of all Asha'man.
Years past, and the last few seals broke quickly and rather unexpectedly. The Shadow was sure to win, as the Dragon had not been reborn yet, however the people of the world united to fight against it. Even Aes Sedai and Asha’man paused their constant quarrels to stand against the Shadow. Xaria and Lucius decided that, temporarily, they would put aside their past and work together to defeat the Shadow, if at all possible. They lost. Badly. The Shadow pushed them back all the way to Falme, where they were stuck. When the Seanchan unexpectedly arrived, and made it clear that they were not there to aid the army of the Light, Lucius called as many people to him as he could. Soon after Xaria arrived where he was, the world turned white, and when the ability to think returned, it did not help, for they were somewhere else, somewhere new, and Xaria could not even be sure she was still in the world she had been born into.
