Title: Adena and Yannira's room
Description: (WT Dormitories)
Yannira Reivon - June 25, 2006 07:09 PM (GMT)
After She explained Yannira what those ‘families’ were, the Aes Sedai decided to leave with a few last words. "With that, I'll leave you to yourself for the time being. Make sure to check up on your schedule when you get the chance."
Right… as if I’d stay here a moment longer. the girl thought acidly as she watched the woman leave.
Forcing herself to count to fifty, to be sure the Aes Sedai was far enough away, Yannira already started wondering about how she should best leave the tower.
The halls they had been passing through had been filled even more then the others with white clad women, or girls at that. So I suppose that these are the dormitories of the novices. I probably would look out of place if I’d walk around in my normal clothes here
The thought made her frown and wonder how far she would get if she’d wear novicewhite, and if she’d be allowed to walk out of the tower. If she could find her way out that is.
“I suppose I could try to find a secluded spot somewhere to change into normal clothes” she said softly to herself as she looked at the bundle in her hands.
But I can’t be seen like this, holding my clothes out for everyone to notice me. Maybe if I wrap them in this white cloak it might look as if I am going for laundry or so.
Content with reasoning that out, Yannira started pulling her new, white cloak around the bundle of silk when suddenly the door opened and she froze.
Adena Moren - June 29, 2006 04:19 PM (GMT)
Adena made her way through the halls, feeling ready to cry. It had been a few days since she had made her attempt at running away, but it may has well have been today for all the sleep Adena had gotten. They piled on chores and punishments more than Adena would have thought possible. Of course, she could not say she did not understand why, not only had she tried to run away but she had hit an Aes Sedai in the process. She took a deep breath, she would not give these witches the satisfaction of seeing her cry ever again. She would not tell them that she liked this place of course, because she truly loathed it, but she would not let them make her cry again! The thought took some of her sadness and replaced it with anger. Light, anger was what had gotten her into this mess in the first place! As near as she could guess, almost every time she had channeled before coming here had been connected with anger, and now the witches told her she had a block. She could only channel when she was angry, well she had not known the technical term "block" before coming here, but she had puzzled that much out on her own. For once, Adena had a few spare moments, and she intended to take full advantage of them and at least try to sleep. The last few nights, sleep had been difficult, she could hardly get to sleep, and when she did she dreamed of punishments and chores and of running away. Those were the worst, the dreams in which she succeeded in running away, then woke to find herself still in this Light-forsaken Tower.
She made her way into the novice well, and up to her room. The rooms had been changed around not too long ago, and Adena did not yet know who her new roommate would be. She walked to her room and opened the door, finding a rather frightened looking novice with blonde hair in many tiny Taraboner braids standing in the middle of the room. She was holding a bundle, her cloak and something with more color than any novice was permitted to wear. Adena looked the girl over, she appeared to be several years younger than Adena, as many noivces were. It was not someone Adena knew, she was familiar with the names and faces with enough novices, she would not say most of them, but this was not someone she remembered. She thought this woman must be new, if that Cayana was still permitting her to wear her braids. Doubtless soon she would be given the white ribbons all novices were required to tie their hair back with. Adena did not say anything to the girl as she looked her over. She did not really have the bearing of a lady, so Adena assumed she was yet another peasant or farmwife with dreams of power that could only be granted by becoming Aes Sedai. She wondered what the girl was doing with all that brightly colored fabric, since it was nowhere near a festival time Adena was surprised she was even allowed to have it.
Adena walked farther into the room, she would not let this new roommate get in the way of the time for a short nap she actually had. She walked to her bed, and sat down. She lay back on her bed, and closed her eyes. She was so tired, yet at the same time she was afraid that if she had another dream about running away she would break down when she woke up. A five minute nap would not make her that much less tired, chances were she would only feel worse when she woke again because she could not sleep long enough. Light, but if these punishments did not end soon Adena was sure she would snap. Suddenly she was not so sure she could keep from crying anymore, this life was just not fair! Back home, she had gotten everything she wanted, she was a lady, what lady had to pull weeds and scrub floors? Yet here she was, still in this place, still doing all the menial chores they assigned her because to do otherwise to earn even more, a punishment was the last thing Adena wanted. She hated this place, but it was coming to the point where she would do nearly anything to avoid more punishment. That thought was horrible. She had never let anyone else control her life before, not since she had been very young, and now that she was a woman grown, old enough to have a family of her own, there were hundreds of people all around her dictating her every move.
Yannira Reivon - June 30, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
When Yannira saw that i twas not one of the Aes Sedai that had walked in, she still did not ease down visibly. The woman, or girl rather that had entered was probably her roommate, but might as well have been an Aes Sedai for all the attention and cold looks she gave her.
Only a fw years older then herself, the other woman had hair as dark as Yannira’s was lightand eyes about the same colour. The thing that was striking on her however, was that she was a noblewoman to her toes ; one that seemed to have seen something she dispised in that brief, cold glance she gave Yannira.
Instinctively the young Taraboner drew herself to her full height and put her chin up as the other girl went to what apparently was her bed and lied down.
I am every bit as high a lady as she is. And my bloody house is probably higher then hers she thought acidly as her mind ran over the lessons of old Marrolk.
She hifted her bundle and took the opportunity to turn away briefly from the other woman and look in the mirror to see if she had managed to have a decently raised eyebrow. She hadn’t and decided to school her face to a composed calm instead before turning back.
With care she chose her words –making sure none of her foul language of before slipped in- and spoke to the other woman in a voice that could be called haughty
“It is not that I enjoy intruding on your beautysleep“ if they let initiates this loose, it should not be too difficult to get away from here “But could you at least be so kind as to give me directions to the exit of this place? “ It was hardly a question and Yannira had to bite her tongue as to not point the other girl how rude she had been. She fingered her belt, but found no knife and instead let herself be content with just introducing herself “My name is Yannira of House Reivon by the way. Not that I see that matters anything.“
Even if the other girl was rude, she would not lower herself like that; there were a great many things that old Marrolk said brought shame upon a lady.
Adena Moren - June 30, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
As Adena walked to her bed, she saw the other girl straighten and pull her chin up. She knew how to stand, but she did not know well enough to stand that way all the time. Adena almost rolled her eyes, even peasants were trained to their station better than that. As she was getting comfortable on her bed, the other woman spoke, the words were apologizing for interrupting her rest, but the tone said she did not really care. Her question, though, made Adena sit up. She wanted to get out of here? And she was admitting it, openly asking someone how the best way to do that was. Almost as an afterthought, the girl introduced herself as Yannira of House Reivon. That was one Adena recognized, a Taraboner House and powerful at that. But if that was the case, why was this girl so poorly trained? How could a powerful house allow one of their members to be so lax as to not even have the proper posture. But she wanted to leave the Tower, and that to Adena was a good sign. She was not the only one in this place who wanted out. She could not say whether this girl despised the Towers as much as Adena, but at the moment that was not most important. She sat forward on her bed, wondering how she should answer this girl. She knew that there were ways to escape, and that girls tried, but she also knew that very few achieved their goals. Adena having experienced that failure herself, she knew the devestation that it brought.
"Well, there are plenty of exits to the city, but good luck getting out of the Tower grounds with that novice dress on," she finally replied. For perhaps the first time since coming to the Tower, Adena's voice was not filled with poorly masked derision or hatred. She was caught in a tough place, she could tell this girl that running away was futile, that she would not make it and would only get a punishment, or she could help her find out for herself. If she tried to help the girl, she may get into more trouble, and this girl would not get away either. But if she told her it was not worth it, would that be like helping keep this girl in the captivity of the Towers? Would it be aiding in the brainwashing. What if, because of Adena, this girl ended up becoming one of the witches loyal to the Dark One? She was not sure she could live with that. Yet, at the same time, she did not want to be the reason this girl was punished, she was the only other person Adena knew of who wanted out of here. But what if she helped her, the girl was punished, then she became another of the masses who wanted nothing more than to become Accepted and then Aes Sedai. Adena shook her head, Light there were too many things to think about! She would just answer the girl's questions honestly, and let this Yannira decide for herself what she wanted to do. "My name is Adena, of House Moren in Amadicia," she offered, realizing she had failed to return the girl's introduction.
Yannira Reivon - July 2, 2006 10:18 AM (GMT)
Her words had obviously sparked some interest in the girl –if not agitated her-, but she looked over her Yannira once more, this time it was a silent study with a face that looked….. intrigued.
She probably has never met anyone of her age that did not crawl like a servant Yannira though dismissively. True she had had not too much experience outside her work at the Blinded Dame with other people, but at least it seemed more then the girl she was facing.
"Well, there are plenty of exits to the city, but good luck getting out of the Tower grounds with that novice dress on," she finally replied. Unlike what Yannira expected, the other girls voice was not cold and disdainful, it was just calm and collected.
Still Yannira was feeling snappish because of the other girls behavior and wanted to take it out on her.
The other girl however gave her no time as she continued, her voice still calm, and introduced herself as Adena of House Moren in Amadicia.
Gently inclining her head as to acknowledge the late introduction, Yannira felt her annoyance melt away a bit and she started thinking once more about what to say and in which way. One of the things that old Marrolk had thaught her, or tried to, were the rulers of the world nations, including Amadicia. But she could not remember having heard of any house Moren. Which of course said nothing as she could have easily forgotten. But most likely it was not one of the highest three houses in the land and so it had not been named. The would be equals or she would be above the other woman in house. What an annoying mess this is… Yannira thought bitterly as she moderated her tone before answering the womans words.
“Pleased to meat you Adena,” she said calmly “But I personally cannot see how I would leave these halls in something that does not look so horribly white.”
With that she looked back at her bundle, which she had stopped folding and noticed the other, brightly colored, pieces sticking out. Carefully she folded the silks inside the sturdy white cloak and then examined it to make sure nothing could be seen of them anymore.
“So…. It would be very handy If I happened upon a place, somewhere near the exit, where I could change out of this… uniform, and put on some decent clothes again.”
Adena Moren - July 7, 2006 08:02 PM (GMT)
The other woman inclined her head when Adena introduced herself, and replied correctly. Well, she had clearly had some training, but her rough edges confused Adena, it was almost as if she had had no training as a child, and was still trying to break old habits but that was ridiculous, what House would leave a girl untrained? Yannira did not seem bothered by Adena's lack of faith in the odds of actually running away. Instead, she said that there was no way she would get out of the novice halls in anything but her novice dress. Which was absolutely true, Adena had to admit, but that did not make her own point any less valid either. Yannira asked whether Adena knew of any place near an exit she could change into something more normal. It was not until then that Adena noticed that inside what looked like a bundle of laundry wrapped in a cloak- although it was the height of summer -was actually a dress that would blend well in the city, one that, were Yannira wearing it, she might have a chance at getting out of this Light-forsaken place. Then again, Adena had hoped the same thing, and her chances had been increased, because novices were allowed in the city and out of their uniforms when she tried to run, yet she had been caught all the same. Still, she thought about Yannira's question. Where was there a place to change near an exit to the city? Mostly, the walls were lined with gardens. She supposed Yannira could take the chance of changing behind a tree, but that seemed far too risky.
She wondered for a moment, if she could think of a way for Yannira to get out of here, what would Adena do? Could she really watch this woman run away and not try to go with her? The thought of the punishments she was still currently involved in was enough to answer that question. Adena now had very little hope of getting out of here until the Towers were ready to let her go, but that did not mean that she had to dash the hopes of other women. If she could keep one woman from being brainwashed by the witches, then surely it would be worth it. Unless they found out she had helped, then Adena would be punished for aiding a girl in her attempt to run away. Light, but there was certainly no easy answer to this question. No, she would not try to run away with Yannira, having another woman would increase the chances of getting caught, and the chances were already far too high for Adena's liking. She shook those thoughts off, she was not supposed to be thinking about herself right now, she was supposed to be helping Yannira. "Well," she began slowly, "maybe you could just get out of the novice halls in the white. You're new here right? So maybe no one will recognize you if you're not in your uniform. Maybe if you take your braids out when you change, that way you blend in better. Then you could just change in a hidden place in the Tower proper, and you'd be able to walk through the grounds and right out to the city, if you didn't look suspicious."
It was not really a great idea, but it was the best Adena could come up with. Maybe Yannira could think of something better on her own. Of course, there was a flaw in Adena's plan, any Aes Sedai or Accepted- or maybe even an experienced novice -Yannira passed would be able to feel her ability to channel. When they did, she would be taken to Cayana to be enrolled, and she would be caught. Light, there really was no way to win. Adena decided not to speak her concern aloud, at least not yet. Maybe if the two of them could come up with nothing better, Adena would mention the possibility, and then if Yannira still wanted to take the chance she could. Adena tried to think of something else, Yannira's original plan was probably the best, if they could come up with some place for her to change. There were guards at all the gates, so she could not change too close, or they might notice. Yet, to get too far away was to increase the chance of someone sensing her ability to channel. The witches certainly thougt of all the options of a novice trying to run away, and had taken precautions against them. Adena stifled a sigh, her own attempt had not been this hard to plan, then again, it had ended badly, maybe by taking extra time and thinking everything over they would find a way to get Yannira away from this place before the Dark One's minions claimed her soul.
Yannira Reivon - July 12, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
(sorry it's kinda short... )
Adena was silent for a moment; thinking on what Yannira had said, all the while still taking her in like a merchant taking in a customer whom she might outwit if played smartly.
"Well," she began slowly, "maybe you could just get out of the novice halls in the white. You're new here right? So maybe no one will recognize you if you're not in your uniform” Yannira nodded softly at that; she had thought of that advantage. .
“Maybe if you take your braids out when you change, that way you blend in better. Then you could just change in a hidden place in the Tower proper, and you'd be able to walk through the grounds and right out to the city, if you didn't look suspicious."
At that Yannira tilted her head slightly and frowned just a tad, careful not to let any more emotions show then necessary. take out my braids? I do suppose it will look les special… I have only seen one other woman with the braids here, but wouldn’t that require even more time? Maybe I should already do it here. Or not…. The onger I stay here the more chance I have of that annoying woman to drop in again and see that I’m up to something.
“and would you already have such place in mind then?” she asked, making it sound as if the frown belonged to the question. Which hardly cost her any effort since it actually did too.
She hoped with the lights blessing that the other girl in fact did. The sooner she could get out, the better. Being caught seemed not all too likely; after all those women
Seemed to be looking down their noses at everything too much to notice one simple novice going to the laundryroom.
Adena Moren - July 21, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
((OOC: Sorry this has taken so long, for some reason I've got no real idea what to do here))
Yannira listened as Adena spoke, and did not seem put off by the challenge that getting out of here would provide. She asked whether Adena had any place in mind where Yannira could change. Adena tried to think, where could she change that would work? They needed a place that a novice would not look out of place entering, and a visitor would not look out of place exiting. As well as being assured that no one else would go there while Yannira was in there. Light, but this was going to be difficult. She suppressed the urge to sigh again, and tried to think. She had been in the Tower long enough to know the basics of where everything was, but at the same time she had never exerted any effort to learn the Towers- she had never expected to stay this long, or to rely on her knowledge to help someone else run away. She looked at Yannira for a moment, wondering how serious she was about running away. Yannira had just arrived, that much was obvious, but even in her first few days here, much as Adena had hated it she had not seriously thought about running away. That had not come for a few weeks, and the actually attempt had come rather later. But, if Yannira wanted out now, then so be it.
"I can't really think of any place that would be good for changing. There are plenty of empty rooms in the Towers, but what visitor to the Towers would be in an empty room? It would look suspicious." As she spoke, Adena realized there was one place that might work. "Well," she began slowly, "There are some rooms in the Tower used to house guests, novices and Accepted are allowed in there, you might be able to get in and out of an empty one before you are caught. Who would notice another visitor in the halls designated for them? It's still a risk, but it might work." She trailed off, wondering whether Yannira would take up the offer. Part of her was excited for the girl, that she might be able to get out of this place, but another part was worried about the punishment Yannira would most likely receive for this attempt. "Just, if you do this, and you get caught, don't mention that I helped you," she said, hoping Yannira would remember that when she was being questioned. Adena tried to push away the feeling that there was no hope for this, there was always hope, although sometimes precious little. I'm only worried because I was caught, just because I was stupid enough to hit an Aes Sedai doesn't mean Yannira won't get away, she tried to convince herself. It did not work well, though. She still wondered whether she should remind Yannira that other women could feel her ability to channel, maybe if Yannira had any other questions she could tell her then, not now though.
