A quick overview of personality: Kira is somewhat of an introvert. She seems shy and quiet but in reality she is determining the situation. She assesses every person and every situation to see whether it safe for her before she joins in. Some would say she’s a snob but in truth she’s scared of being hurt. She has built up walls around her heart and emotions to keep people from getting close. She has a sharp tongue and often makes comments that would be considered as smart-ass. History:

Kandor is one of the Borderland nations, dedicated to defending the Blight border. It is situated between Saldaea and Arafel, with the Blight to the north. At least part of Kandor is mountainous.

The capital city of Kandor is Cachin, located in the mountains of Kandor. The merchants of Cachin have a good reputation and considerable wealth, even though the city's nearness to the Blight prevents it from being a major trading city. Another well known city in Kandor is Canluum, with the town of Ravinda located between the two.

But that was what the history books said about Kandor. History books had an uncanny fashion to stagnate and worst of all, to simplify the truths. The truth was that Kira was born in Kandor but she could remember little of it. She knew from her mother’s elaborate earrings and fashions that she hadn’t truly given up the Kandor fashion. Of course her father still wore the forked style beard – clearly distinctive to Kandor fashions. But Kira never inherited that love for the elaborate – rather she preferred the simple. She was a tomboy in every sense, and often the clear disappointment of her mother, who only wanted her girl to follow in her footsteps. But that was what was expected of her, to grow up as a girl should and marry one day, only to cook, clean and look of the children of her husband. Kira, from a young age – never had the intention to do such a thing.

Her family were simple commoners and owned a small tavern within the city. They made a fair enough living, but when an unexpected famine hit Kandor the city dwellers had hard times ahead of them. Kira’s family was no different. Soon, even their once lucrative business dried up and they were forced to move. Rumor was that Tar Valon had work and they set out for a long journey to the legendry city that housed the White Tower.

Kira was still young when they moved and wasn’t as hard on her as it was on her family. She couldn’t remember much of the travels to Tar Valon, except that it was long and exhausting. She remembered endless hills and wondering how big the world really was. Her entire life she had spent in Kandor and now, her world had suddenly grown much bigger. Despite the uncertainty she was excited – but her parents didn’t share the excitement. They had left everything they knew behind.

True to the rumors, Tar Valon did have work and for a while it seemed as if Kira’s family had finally recovered from a seemingly devastating blow that the famine of Kandor had provided. Those years were a time of prosperity and her younger brother was born Jarrod. Her father worked for a local armory that provided weapons for the city guard. They lived on the edge of the city, appropriately names by the locals at the outer edge. There was little trouble in Tar Valon, at least less than in other cities, but if there was place that would be called as the hell, then it would be the outer edge.

Kira didn’t mind that they lived at the outer edges of the city. She spent most of her time exploring the sites. Often times she could go into the city merely to stare at the white tower in its brilliance. Its sight was always breathtaking. While most other girls dreamed of being Aes Sedai’s - Kira secretly wanted to be warder. She would often play with sticks, imitating swords. She kept it from her mother. It was not the proper way to act for a lady, her mother would say. So Kira would act a certain way in front of her mother but another when she was alone. She did not wish to bring further heartache on the woman who had lost so much already.

To this day Kira wasn’t sure what had happened, but rumor suggested that a foreigner had entered the city and passed on a disease to the locals. Kira’s mother was one of the first to catch it, and a strange fever set in. Days later she died. That day was one of the many that would be edged in her mind forever. She recalled that her father had a flag in the room with the symbols of Kandor: The sign of Kandor is a rearing red horse on a field of pale green. Her mother died under that sign. She realized then that all the responsibility that her mother had had, was now hers. She needed to stop playing and start behaving like a woman. She couldn’t help but feel guilty that she had been a disappointment to her mother.

Soon after her mother’s death, dozens of people started to show the same symptoms and finally a petition was sent to the white tower to assist. By the time the yellow sisters arrived, the ailment had spread. Her father and her brother, who aged three, had died. Kira showed no sign of infection. There was no reason for her to be spared. Some drunkard had said that the light preserves who it wills, but Kira found it unfair. She wished that she had joined her parents - but she hadn’t and now she was alone.

For many dies she just sat in the house after their burial. She couldn’t bare to eat or sleep. Their faces still haunted her. She wished that she had joined them, but couldn’t bare the thought of taking her own life. She had to survive there was no choice in it. The pain of their loss was almost overwhelming. She wanted to cry. But she never did. She needed to be strong. So, as always she sucked up the emotions that she was feeling and stored it within herself. She refused to have anyone see her in any state of weakness.

She wasn’t sure if she ever stopped grieving her loss but one thing was certain - she knew that she had no other option but find a way to survive. She had to find a way and she didn’t trust these people in Tar Valon. But then, she didn’t trust anyone anymore. The Aes Sedai was supposed to have healed and helped – but they hadn’t and because of them she had to endure the loss she had. She had thought that the Sisters were the protectors but how could they be if they couldn’t even stop such an illness. Her rage and helplessness was only enlarged. She needed someone to blame. With no one else around to take it, the Aes Sedai was as good as any to take that blame.

Surviving was a bit of a tricky situation. The armory would never allow her to take over her father’s job and that had been their main source of income. It soon became apparent that she would have to resort to more drastic measures to survive - but she told herself that she would only steal until she could find another way of surviving. She promised herself that when she could find another source of income she would pay back every cent she had stolen. But for now, it was the only way.

The days soon turned into weeks and then months passed. She had become a scrawny thing with little flesh on her bone. She was in desperate need of food and she knew it. It was often difficult to tell your brain to be reasonable when your stomach was growling with hunger pains. While she attempting to steal a loaf of bread to fill her growling stomach she met a beggar who had saved her from being caught.

Danny was a small boy, but street-smart. He must have been three years older than her but he remained smaller, more agile than her. She was already growing tall. Danny had been the Light in her life in darkness. Since her family’s death, she only experienced death and destruction. This boy was the first to show compassion and he had been her savior in more ways than one. First, he had saved her from starvation that was immanent and secondly he had given her a family that she longed for ever since her family’s death. He was what she needed and she was utterly and completely grateful to him.

Danny took pity on her and started showing her the ropes in surviving on the streets. He used the front of a beggar to help him in being a thief. Soon she had learnt all he could teach her and they became best friends. The two of them worked together and soon became partners in survival.

Years had past after her parent’s death and Kira had managed to master the art of thievery with the help of Danny. The first rule was, trust no one, and she didn’t except for Danny. But that wasn’t a difficult rule to follow. She had stopped trusting when the Aes Sedai failed to save her family.

The rage and anger she felt towards them and not to mention her fear of them grew with each passing day. But she never let it out, she never verbalized it nor did she act out in any fashion. She stored it within herself. One day things would be different, she kept promising herself. But at the same time she enjoyed her time with Danny. Somehow he always managed to make her smile, when no one else could. He was the only person that she could fully trust – or at least she hoped. She didn’t want to put too much faith in their friendship lest he was taken away from her as her parents had been.

The second day that she would probably never forget, was the fateful day that had changed her life forever. Danny had always said to stay away from the sisters of the white tower - they were no good and she believed him. She had no desire getting close to them, no matter how much she despised them.

She knew what they did to thieves. Tar Valon didn’t tolerate thievery and that was exactly what she had become. It was funny how they would punish her for being a thief if that was exactly what they had forced her to become. No, if she didn’t see any Sister in her life again it would be too soon.

It was almost spring but it was still cold. The winters were the worst for her. Each winter made it worst and she knew it. Her health wasn’t what it once was. Of course, what did she expect with the diet she had. The cold made it worse, it made her hungry and desperate. She hated feeling desperate almost as much as she hated feeling helpless.

She never saw the warder standing off to the side as she walked past the stall and swiped a pie. Next thing she knew the warder had her by the scruff of her neck. Kira panicked. She didn’t know what had happened but she only knew that the warder had fallen back to the ground and two green sisters approached her, looking surprised - that is if you could call it that. They never showed any emotions.

Move! She wanted to scream to herself but her legs didn’t move. They felt like lead. Sisters! She wanted to run but she couldn’t. A type of fatigue took her that she couldn’t explain. Her anger and fear was only to be diminished by uncertainty.

Kira’s head felt funny and sagged to the ground. Hopelessness overshadowed the fear. She wouldn’t be able to run from the sisters. Her time was over; she would be hung for sure. They spoke in soothing tones which only confused her more. If they were going to hang her, why be nice?

They took her to the white tower; she caught a glimpse of Danny as she went. He had followed her to the entrance of the tower. She cried when she saw him disappear behind a group of people. The last of her family and friends were once again taken from her – and it was the Aes Sedai that was the cause of it.

For a moment she felt grief at never seeing him again, but that was all - she didn’t fear death, instead she would welcome it. If they were to execute her it would be an apt way to go – she thought. She would finally join her parents and brother.

But death never came.

Later it would be explained that she had channeled and that had made the warder fall backwards. She was entered into the novice book for the white tower. She didn’t know much of the world, nor of the sisters or their white tower. She knew, however, it was another form of prison - just another variety of the stocks, at least for her anyway. But not all things would be bad. They would feed her and clothe her. It was more care than what she had had for years.

Nonetheless, the Tower was a pretty big place and she was scared though she would never admit it. She wouldn’t give anyone the satisfaction of seeing her fears. The first night in her rooms was quiet and scary. She woke up at the sound of every noise. She wished Danny was near to comfort her, but he wasn’t and that made the experience just more painful.

Though the novices were nice enough to her, Kira didn’t befriend them. She rather stayed alone. She would only lose those people she came close to. She didn’t think she could handle another loss.

She didn’t know whether to feel happy or angry but once thing was certain, if these people thought she was going to trust them - they had another thing coming. Trusting only brought a dagger in the back.

She had decided that she would bide her time. At the moment she was being fed, housed and educated. That was more than what she could ever hope for. She would somehow break free from the hold the Aes Sedai had over her – she vowed that much to herself and her family.

Misc: Kira, the name, means beautiful and Aracy means Lion, which describes her perfectly. She might seem shy and pretty on the outside, but her spirit if that of a fighter. Careful of what you do around her - she might just bite.

This is a very good basis, I like your story, it's clearly well thought-out and I really enjoy it. :) I do have just a few things, however.
As it is, your history is too short. It's a great base, but it needs fleshed out. Tell me how Kira felt about everything that happened to her, you have plenty of things that happened, good detail, but I would like to see more into Kira's mind. :)
Also, you've made Kira very strong in the One Power, if you have a reason for her to be that strong, by all means leave it that way, just let me know why. If not, I'd really rather if she was at least a bit weaker. :)

Cool thanks! I'm still a little uncertain how all of this works so I really appreciate all the input! I feel like trying to swim for the first time! So thanks a million for your advice. I'll try and revise it now. I usually leave the emotional stuff out of the bio, because I'm not sure if it's relevent. But now that I've got permission....heeehaa!!!!

Thanks boss-like-person B)

Edited! Hope that's better. ;)

Sapphira Calren - December 29, 2006 03:12 AM (GMT)
That's awesome! Thanks for your quick work. :D I just need you to change one tiny thing. Base strength can't be higher than current strength, since base is where you start. So, either base strength needs to be changed to 23 or current strength to 28, either way is fine with me. :)

As soon as that's done, it's completely approved. :)

Done and done! Woot! I know I need to put up a signiture, I'm busy making a graphic one so, I'll get around to that soon. I presume I can start posting now?

Thanks for all your help! Much appreciated!!! :)
