The day was bleak and miserable no matter how hard Kaelyn tried to make the best of it. Many walked past her, their faces blank and their mouths set in a grim line. Some passed staring out the hallway windows, allowing a long sigh to escape before scurrying to whatever duty they were assigned. Kaelyn folded her hands in front of her, blue eyes like mountain springs wide and sparkling with amusement. Today she was free, her mentor had excused her from her lessons for reason of practice on her own or perhaps the weather too had affected Freyja Sedai. Though not much appeared to affect the Aes Sedai, even now as one walked down the hallway, little could be read from her expression behind the gaze that sent many in white ahead of her scurrying.
Kaelyn, however, had little intention to use her time for practice as she knew little could be done and her time wasted. Her block saw to that. Through various sessions little progress had been made, in fact nothing had been made at all! At least she had an excuse for her wanderings.
Sighing she drew her eyes to peer out the window and decided it would be refreshing to breathe the crisp cool air that was sure to be there.
“These southerners are soft!” she grinned proud of being a Borderlander who had experienced severe winters that never even touched these lands. Tossing her hair over her shoulders Kaelyn donned her cloak catching a few stares from novices passing by. I have reason. Kaelyn smiled. I’m going out to practice. Yet that was far from her intentions.
Rounding a corner at a brisk pace Kaelyn bumped into an object, though she was startled and both pleased that it wasn't a vase. Instead it fell, giving out an involuntary 'oof'.
“Pardon me!” Kaelyn offered a dazzling smile that had always managed to attract a few stares at the practice yard with little notice from herself. “I really am sorry!” She had bent down helping the novice off the ground. “I hope you are not hurt. If you are I can escort you to the Infirmary if you wish it.”
Once the girl was firm on her feet Kaelyn smiled and began an introduction. “My name is Kaelyn. I don’t believe we have met before.”
Aralyn looked up into the smiling face of the novice that she had just collided with. Aralyn thought her looks made her like an angel.
“My name is Kaelyn. I don’t believe we have met before.”
“My name is Aralyn and I am glad to meet you. I'm alright , just a few bruises. ”She replied to the innocent looking girl. Kaelyn’s black hair and sapphire eyes made Aralyn jealous. They gave her the beauty that Aralyn had always wanted. Though her mother said she was a rare beauty compared to other girls she never felt that she belonged. Her personality is what defines her she always thought.
“What are you doing on this bleak and boring day?” Aralyn asked hoping that she was not the only one not having anything to do today. Hoping that for once in her life she might be able to make a friend that wasn’t scared of her.
Kaelyn’s smile never faltered as the novice with good graces accepted her apologies. Aralyn was a bit shorter than herself, though that led to little indication of her age. Silky strawberry blond hair framed her face, with emerald green eyes of such a shade that Kaelyn had never seen. Rosebud shaped lips finished her features, causing envy within Kaelyn as they would create a pouty, flirtatious look that she had always wanted.
Unconsciously Kaelyn pulled pieces of her raven hair over her shoulders so that they sat and framed her face.
“…bleak and boring day?” The intent look of the novice startled her into dropping her hands to her dress. What had the girl asked her? Kaelyn bit her lip before selecting her words.
“I am on my way out door to practice my weaves.” Kaelyn lied through clenched teeth, for the girl did not need to know about her block. “I should like you to come, but I see you are busy...good day to you!”
Giving a quick grin Kaelyn turned and set a brisk pace down the hallway knowing she had been a bit rude, but hoped it appeared nothing more than urgency.
Aralyn notice that Kaelyn fiddled with her hair as she asked her question.
“I am on my way outdoors to practice my weaves. I should like you to come but I see you are busy, good day to you!”
Aralyn was confused for she had just said she was not busy. The girl with the raven hair wasn’t a very attentative person, she actually seemed a tad rude.
“She’s probably just in a rush.” Aralyn thought to herself. But it seemed like she was up to something. Aralyn followed closely behind, making sure to slip behind corners incase Kaelyn happened to look her way. She followed her outside, expecting her to head towards the practice yards, but instead followed her into the trees.
“I wonder why she heads into the trees to practice her weaves and not out in the open where Aes Sedai can praise upon her.” Aralyn murmured to herself wishing Kaelyn to stop. She did not want to go to deep into the trees and get lost. If she kept going further she might have to turn back. “ Luckily I grew up near the woods and know how not to make a sound amongst the trees.” She thought to herself.
(OOC: Sorry I am this took so incredibly long! LoL remind you to show you some of the options we have when our characters have thoughts!)
Kaelyn smiled as she listened to the steady pat-pat of her foots steps brushing the soft grass. There, however, was more than one tread that matched her own and she had known it all along but failed to head the intruder that followed in her wake. The novice she had left behind had followed her trail, to her annoyance, but it came with great amusement as she took extra turns she came across in order to daunt the efforts of the woman. However, curiosity had gotten the better of her pursuer, and Kaelyn realizing her half effort were truly futile had given up and latched to the hilarity of the sneaking shadow behind her. Or the blundering oaf was more like it, though it would have gone amiss to those who had never learned to listen to such movements.
Growing up in the Borderlands was a great pride of her own, for being raised there was like training a soldier for battle. She had never seen battle, nor wished to, however, her father had ensured that she knew how to track, to hunt, even to use the bow, though the sword had come with great difficulty and even now she was still fairly useless at it. She would never get to handle one now that the White Tower lay claim to her, but the One Power turned out to be more satisfying and made up for the loss. The yearning for saidar was enough to drive her mad, though just the thrill of having the ability to touch it was enough to make up for most of what she had lost. Most.
Taking a deep breath though it rippled with the threat of laughter Kaelyn picked up her pace, and head for a familiar grove of trees she had once hidden in a long time ago. Was it really that long ago? She shook her head ridding the thoughts before troubles that were more than likely attached to them came into focus. She did not need the reminder of how long she wore white, not long in terms of a novice, but too long for her desires.
The surrounding trees provided welcomed shade, but also shelter from prying eyes. The footsteps behind her had stopped, though Kaelyn had been listening and marked where the individual stood, watching and waiting. Laughter nearly broke out upon her lips, but she sucked in breath not wanting to give away her knowledge.
Reaching behind a tree she traced her hands upon the bark until they slid into a hollow, most likely from a ground animal, until she pulled out a long shaft with a feathered tail, and a shapely bow that was left unstrung. Hiding the tools with her figure, Kaelyn quickly strung the bow and placed an arrow in its rightful place, before stilling herself. And the fun begins In a swift motion she extended her arm and pulled back on the taunt string to its full extension, aiming the shaft at a twisted tree that was now riddled with many marks of target practice. Without a moments hesitation she released the arrow, though it never did hit her target. The hiss of air spoke of its passage until a dull crack told her she had struck the wood of a tree. A small squeal erupted from where the arrow had gone, and a shadow emerged that Kaelyn eyed in annoyance. Folding her arms across her breast she stood carefully watching the figure move hesitantly towards her, as if in they would be the next target. It had not been a mistake the she had missed her intended target, it had been a quick shift of aim where she knew the other stood. So come, or go tattle! It is likely due to your curiosity you will get us both punishments whether you have good intentions or not! Kaelyn nearly groaned but she was more than pleased that the girl had not gone and run off. There was a chance she could steer the situation to her desires.
