Adena Moren - February 10, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
It was a different day, Adena was sure of that, but if she wasn't so positive that she had gone to sleep the previous night and woken up this morning, she probably would not know the difference between yesterday and today. Most of her days were like that. Every day exactly like the one before. To some that might be a bad thing, but in Adena's opinion it could be much worse. For the most part, days that were not normal were also not good. They tended to shake Adena up as well, sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for a few weeks. Yes, Adena would be content if every day was just the same as the one before. Until she broke her block. That was one day she was looking forward to being different. Not that she really knew what she was going to do after that day. When she broke her block, Adena would be able to leave the Tower soon after if she wished. But now she was not so certain that she wanted to go. Some days yes, she absolutely could not wait to get out, but other days she thought it might not be so bad to stay here for a little while. That was all the farther it ever went though, she never thought beyond that "little while," and she certainly never thought as far as testing for Accepted or Aes Sedai, that would be too much right now. It was best to just think about the possibility of staying a few more weeks or so.

Adena pushed that thought out of her mind. She might be able to make up her mind for right now, but it would only be temporary. Before long she would change it again. She sighed, she had no idea what she was going to do with her future. It seemed like so long ago that she had had that conversation with that man in the gardens. After that, she had been looking forward to her future, she had known what she wanted to do, and she was going after it, if not as quickly as she might have liked. Now she was still working toward something, she just did not know what it was yet. She turned down a hallway, she had a class in a few minutes, but she knew she had more than enough time to get there, and she could even be early without having to rush. She wondered how the Towers managed to come up with enough topics for novices to take classes no matter how long they wore the white. Adena had been a novice for nearly nine years now, and she had never had to sit through the same class twice. She had also never been given a break on classes. Always the same number of classes each week, and always a new one to take the place of one that finished. That was the Tower, making sure they controlled every moment of novice life.

It was something she had learned to live with, if only in the past year. After nine years in the Tower, she was finally catching on to things most girls learned and accepted in their first year or so. Maybe if she had just been less stubborn years ago her block would already be broken. Then she would already be gone, and she would not have to worry about which would be a better future. She walked through the corridor, her mind still full of things she would rather not think about. It would be so much easier if she could just put these things out of her head. Then she could focus on her block. When her block was broken would be a much better time to think about what she wanted to do with herself. It would probably be a few weeks before the Aes Sedai decided that she had enough control over saidar that she could leave. During that time she could decide what she wanted. But no, she just could not get it out of her mind, hard as she tried, it was always there, waiting to sneak back in when Adena had nothing else to think about.

Ryker woke up early that morning before the sun started to rise above the eastern horizon. He sat on his bunk and waited for the glow of early morning to begin. When it did he got out of his bed and quickly made it, he had learned early on his second day that not making his bed would lead to swift punishment. "Your bunk shall aways be made when you are not in it" He had been told so that is what he did. After he finished making his bed he went to the small stand and washed his face with the cold water that was sitting in the bowl. He didn't mind the cold water he was used to it, his father had told him that men wash with cold water, when he had asked to warm his wash water over the fire when he was young. Closing his eyes he tried to picture his father in his head. He found that every day the picture became a little more blurry. Shaking his head and blocking the sorrow from his mind he continued getting dressed. Pulling on a loose white shirt and his brown wool pants. He put on his soft fur lined leather boots that Gregor had given him and quickly did his braids tying the silver bells on the ends he went out into the yard out side of his barracks and started to run. He liked running in the mornings before anyone else was awake.

Being new in the tower he didn't yet know where he could and couldn't go. He knew that he was not to leave the Towers grounds so he found a back way into the white tower and started jogging up a set of stairs. He lost himself in his run as he went up and up, he found himself back in Shol Arbela running the roofs of the steep houses looking for one to break into. He liked the danger and excitement of those days. He was finding life in the Garrison boring and uneventful. He couldn't wait to get far enough along in his training to be allowed to do something other than drills. He turned off the stairs and slowed to a fast walk as he tried to find another way out of the large building. As he turned a corner he felt something soft slam against his hard chest. Coming back to reality he looked down at the white clad novice. He had learned the ranks fast she was laying on the ground glaring up at him.

"I'm sorry miss." He said extending his hand to help her up. She didn't take it and got herself back onto her feet continuing to glare at him.

"I said I was sorry," he said, "There is no need to look like you're about to bite the be bells of the ends of my braids" he chuckled.

((OOC: Sorry it's short :/))

She was walking close to the wall, partially in an effort to avoid the attention of any who may pass her. If she did not stay far away from the wall, maybe a passing sister would not notice her. Not that she could really be given a chore now anyway, chores were no reason to be late for class, most Aes Sedai understood that and chose not to assign tasks to girls on their way to class. But most was not all, and Adena had no desire to attract the notice of the one exception to that rule. As Adena reached the intersection of two hallways, she suddenly bounced hard off of something, and found herself on the floor. Her first reaction was a mixture of fear, embarassment, and anger, there had not been anything there a moment before! She looked up to see what had been in her path, and saw a tall young man with braided red hair in the uniform of a recruit. His hair told Adena that he was Arafellin, but the uniform told her almost nothing, he could have been in the Tower any amount of time. Recruits were neither higher ranked than novices and soldiers, nor lower than Accepted and Dedicated- they were somehow equal to both. That meant that Adena did not need to worry about deferring, which was good, as she could not hide the angry glare that had fixed itself on her face.

The man apologized and extended a hand to help her up. Stubbornly, Adena pushed herself off the floor with her hands, and stood on her own, completely without his help. Apparently he was some kind of stupid, because his next remark was about her not needing to look like she was going to bite the bells off his braids. "And you don't need to speed around corners so fast that you knock people over," she said coldly. True, Adena had been walking too close to the wall to see someone else coming from the other hallway, but so had he. Running into someone might not be so bad, but to be knocked off her feet! The man must have been practically running- Adena certainly was not moving that quickly, it was not ladylike, neither was it typically approved of by Aes Sedai for novices and Accepted to run. She looked up at the man, he must have been a foot taller than she and he looked strong, so of course he probably did not get knocked over by people very often. That was no excuse though, he should know better than to come bowling around corners like that! What an uncouth, uncivilized fool he must be, and then to make jokes. Light, some people should have to take lessons before joining civilization, for surely this man had not been around people for long, he must certainy be new to the Tower.

She didn't take his joke as well as he would have liked but the result was just as interesting. He found her anger slightly amusing. As she went off on him he stood silently and watched her. He felt very lucky and was glad that she had not been a higher rank which would have proven to be very bad for him. Lifting a hand he pushed first his left and then his right braid behind his ear to keep it from his face.

"I wasn't going 'that' fast" He muttered to himself when she finished speaking. He must not of said it quietly enough for her face suddenly looked like lightening about to explode.

"I See," She said coldly, "well perhaps if you were not an uncultured oaf who did not know a civilized pace, you would not be going so fast" She finished looking more angry than when she started. This got Rykers back up. He didn't like to be bullied.

"Well maybe if you were a little more uncultured you would accept the apology. But what I see in front of me is a snobby little brat." He turned to leave and find his way out but suddenly something caught him and held him in place.

Adena Moren - March 7, 2008 08:57 PM (GMT)
((OOC: Ryker had permission to play Adena's reply, just for the record. :)))

When Adena fell silent, the man looked amused of all things! He brushed his braids behind his shoulders, and claimed that he had not been going too fast. Not going too fast!? What in the Light was this man's problem? Surely he had some sort of disorder that deserved the attention of a Yellow or N'dore. Not going too fast! He was going fast enough to knock Adena over, if that was not too fast, what was? She sometimes found it difficult to understand how some people were able to survive and function among civilization. Even if Adena did not think of herself as a lady anymore, she still recognized that some of those raised as commoners had no sense of propriety. Light, she hoped this man realized that he needed to be educated before too long, for his own sake. Perhaps she could help him along toward that realization. "I See," she said coldly, "well perhaps if you were not an uncultured oaf who did not know a civilized pace, you would not be going so fast."

Rather than realize his mistake, he told her that she should be less cultured, that she could not take an apology, and that she was a brat. He started to turn, but Adena's anger got the best of her. She reached out, and caught the back of his shirt. He stopped, and Adena could not help herself. Everything had changed too much, she did not even know what was going on in her own life. "How dare you call me a brat? You ran into me, and you knocked me over, and yet I am the brat? Perhaps you should go back to whatever forest pack you were raised with, rather than force your presence on civilized people."

Ryker Thorer - March 10, 2008 04:20 AM (GMT)
Ryker looked down at the woman as she spoke to him. Her words angered him, but he tried to force it away. Taking a deep breath he reached down and pulled her hand away from his arm.

"We ran into each other." He said curtly, "And I had the civility to apologize for it as well as trying to help you up." Finishing he looked down at her for a brief moment before gently grabbing her by the shoulders and lifting her, placing her to the side so he could get by. Walking by her he stormed off making sure to not walk to fast this time. He didn't want to have another run in with anyone half as rude as she was. He didn't even know who she was...

Turning down a corridor he walked until he found a flight of stairs leading down. He followed that until he made his way outside bowing along the way to anyone that looked like an Aes Sedai, Asha'man or Gaidin. When he finally found his way out side he looked at the sky and gave a start. I'm going to be late for my first class thanks to that ungrateful novice With that thought at an end he started running towards the training grounds.

The man reached down and simply removed Adena's hand from his arm. He told her curtly that they had run into each other, and that she was uncivil for not accepting his apology. Then, suddenly, he picked her up, and moved her aside. Adena let out a sound of frustration and anger, and spun around as he walked away. The man was walking away, apparently completely unaware of the indecency of picking a person up without warning or consent. However, his retreating back made it clear that he would not be turned. Adena would certainly not chase him, or shout at him down the hall. No, she took a deep breath and turned slowly. People! She thought angrily Men! She stormed around the corner she had been turning before, and went on her way. Angry now, and by the reactions people she passed, it showed. That is, it showed until a passing sister stopped her and told her that she should wipe the expression off her face, and told her to report for extra kitchen duty the next day. That did nothing to assuage her anger, but it certainly got rid of the angry expression quickly enough.
