Title: Just looking

Alilisa Kardef - October 22, 2004 04:39 PM (GMT)
Alilisa peered through the hundreds and hundreds of books that were lined up all around her. The shelves had to be at least 100 feet tall! Alilisa poked through the books, some dusty others in good condition. There was a restricted area in the corner, full of very old books and records. Alilisa knew she had better not mess around over there, or she'd would be in big trouble. Alilisa was taking a break from her class, and trying to do some research for another class. There were just too many books to find what she was looking for. Would the book be located in the dusty place, or the clean place, or what? Alilisa dragged her finger through the layer of dust sitting on one of the shelves. Ick! She thought. Finding someone to help her with finding the book didn't seem to promising either. She was still new to the Tower, and she was a bit intimidated by the Aes Sedai. But she knew sometime she'd have to get over her fears. Maybe if she'd just stand around, someone would help.

NO, what was she thinking? They'd only think she was up to no good and send her off to do chores or something. Grumbling she journeyed through the library trying to find someone not busy. There were rows and rows of tables, with a novice here, and Accepted there, and even a couple of Aes Sedai. A Brown was busy at work writing down something. Alilisa didn't want to desturb her. Where was the record keeper? Finally someone taped her on the shoulder and asked what she was looking for, and Alilisa curtsied, told her about her class about War Tactics and that she needed a book for research. The Aes Sedai pulled a great big brown book, and told Alilisa to sit over in the corner and to sit still. Alilisa obeyed and placed the book on the table. For its size it had not been too horribly heavy. She opened it up and began to read. After a while, she felt as if someone was watching her.

Kiren Thym - November 20, 2004 02:07 PM (GMT)
"Bugger! Mothers milk!..." the soft line of curses went on, not even bringing the slightest hint of blushes of Kirens face; she had long learned how foul her bondmates tongue could be. -as had he about hers-

For a while the curses went on, muttered so soft that only she would be able to hear them had she not been the only one in the room with him. Rialt was pacing trough the room desperately looking for something that Kiren had no idea about what it was.
Trough the bond she felt his nervousness and growing annoyance about the fact that he couldn't find what he was looking for. He was pissed as well; and she knew well enough where that feeling came from; Rialt hated these kinds of meetings, and so did Kiren actually; and thus she was more then happy that she wasn't obliged to be there; or rather that she wasn't allowed to be there; unless Rialt would insist off course.

A flicker of relief suddenly lit his bundle of emotions as he bowed down and picked something from a low table. As he was with his back to her, she couldn't see the small trinket, but she didn't care, most likely they were just cuffs or so; her bondmate sometimes could be as vain as any woman.
And without waiting a lot longer he turned around, fidgetting his sleeves right.... and then walked passed her, granting her a small, somewhat unhappy smile.

So she was left in his office all alone, softly smiling and shaking her head at her bondmate. So she'd have the afternoon off, no classes or so to teach, no bondmate to guard... She let her gaze roam trough the room and let it stop at the pile of books that lay there. "Kiren could you please dump these books on a soldier along with this list?" Rialt had said to her a bit earlyer as he was still getting ready for the meeting.
well I have enough time...

A bit later Kiren walked into the library, her arms bulky with books, eager to dump them on the keepers desk, the Domani sister, whose gracefull ageless face had now made her even more beautiful then twenty years ago, gently smiled at seeing her old friend and only arched her eyebrow as a form of jesting as she put down Rialts books.

With her arms feeling feathery light without the books in them, Kiren made her way trough the library; studying the note and following her feet to wherever they took her.

With one book about treaties and one about politics of Tear in her hands, she suddenly stopped in her tracks as she noticed a girl sitting at a table; a large book opened up before her. Surely the girl was merely one of many there, but she recognised the book nearly immediately; after all she had her own copy in her own office. Wondering why the girl would be so sucked up in a book about warfare, Kiren just leaned in the shadow of a bookshelf, watching her closely.

Alilisa Kardef - December 10, 2004 04:21 PM (GMT)
Alilisa peered out from her book and turned around. She thought she spotted Kiren Thym, the Mistress of Arms looking at her, while leaning on a bookshelf. She seemed to be holding a book in each hand. Alilisa didn't know what else to do so she nodded and bowed her head. She did not know how to address the woman properly, she just knew how to address Aes Sedai properly, and this was no Aes Sedai.

Alilisa wondered what the woman could be so interested in, was it the book. It was giving Alilsa a headache to read, there were so many words printed in such small letters. Alilisa was already confused about where she was in the book. How in the light was she supposed to understand all those terms? She was going to be an Aes Sedai, not a bloody gaidin!

Alilisa decided to go ahead and close the book. She would read it later.

Kathera Galwyn - December 11, 2004 10:20 PM (GMT)
Kathera skittered into the library, muttering something about 'bloody porridge'. Slowing down, she walked over to a bookself, whipping away dust with a finger. Shaking her head at the treatment of some of these novels, she walked down the row of books, hands clasped behid her back. She had sent herself to the library after eating a completely disgusting bowl of porridge, and now was thinking her free time could have been better spent. Well, she thought, rather boredly, you want to be a blue? Start learning about politics! Pursing her lips, she picked a random history of the shelf, and read the title. Happenings of the World. Shaking her head slightly at it's dustiness, she headed over to a table, empty exept for another novice, one she believed to be Alilisa.

Giving her fellow novice a greeting smile and a nodd, she sat down and opend the large book. It was a boring dusty thing, but she bent over it in consentration. The few books they had had at the inn were cherished, and their topics were no better than this one. It should not bore her too much as she read it's pages. Sighing a bit at that hope, it was definitly a boring one, she buried her face into it's pages, and was soon delighted to see it was about the Dragon Reborn. Not so boring then, after all.

Reading it happily, Kathera noticed a warder watchnig them. Not me, she reasured herself. Alilisa. Going back to her book, she skipped from the boring parts to the interesting bits. Hmmmm, she thought, I thought that a brown's life would be boring! Shaking her head with a smile, she looked up, seeing that the warder was still watching Alilisa. Gazing at the woman with curiosity, she wrenched her eyes away, returning them to the book.

Kiren Thym - December 20, 2004 05:00 PM (GMT)
but what was it??? it wasn't Tim. nor Tom.... Thomas?.... no no... not that either... blood and bloody ashes! why can't I find his name again? still gazing ahead of her, Kirens thoughts were searching for knowledge about the night before. The lad had been a very good dancer, and the moves he had done in their private chambers in the inn had been even nicer. maybe she'd go back there tonight.... if Rialt didn't require her presence. or Mishael.

True the hunt this morning had been nice; and had done a good thing for her hangover... but then again, it might have had somethign to do with the herbs she'd chewed

T... Tim... Term? Tuft?... Tie... Bugger!!!! Tüm!!!!! her eyes lit up for a flicker of a moment as she remembered the lads name and proudly repeated it a few times in her mind. Only then she realised that she was still standing against the bookshelves. Hid in the shadows, and combined wit her near automatic composure, the novice -or novices by now- had no idea how far away her mind had been and could only see her prying gaze upon the one girl.
Whoops[/i ] Kiren though as she shifed a bit; immediately drawing the gaze of the other novice again. [i] another one; and looking at the symbols in that book it has nothing to do with war... I suppose I'll let them both be then. Even though she had been inclined to go to the first novice at first, it would only be for a short conversation at most; merely to find out why the girl was learning about war since most novices had no classes on them. but then again, with another one there it would seem stupid.

As casual as she'd put herself against the shelves, she now moved away from them again, sneaking a peek at Rialts list: "Customs of the Chained People". bloody seafolk.... what's fun with living on a boat on the flaming water anyways?

Kathera Galwyn - December 30, 2004 11:17 PM (GMT)
Kathera shrugged to herself, and returned to the book on the Dragon Reborn. Very interesting. Glancing at the other girls book, Kathera had to smile. It would be interesting to read that book, too. Closing the book, she left it on the table and went in search of another book such as the one the other novice had. Unfortunatly, they did not have another copy, and Kathera contented herself with a book about Aiel. Perhaps that would have something of the subject. Once again drowning in the book on Therin, the first Dragon Reborn, Kathera glanced back at the title.

Happenings of the World. Kathera tutted softly, the book was exctremly dusty. And as it was on that certain topic, one would think Browns would kepp good care of it. Maybe they'll let me take it back to the novice quarters to read. she thought with a sudden insperation. If they don't care if it's dusty... Five minutes later, Kathera sat back down with a thud, no book in hand. That brown! The woman had wrenched the book out of her grasp and hurried off, dusting it off with a hand. And she hadn't said a word.

Moodily picking up the book on the Blight, Kathera soon found herself submerged in the text. Maybe I should chose brown.she thought in amusment, glancing down at the book. Shaking her head, who in their right mind would chose brown?, Kathera let herself be ingulfed in the book.

Kiren Thym - January 8, 2005 05:50 PM (GMT)
Let's see... what else is on this list besides the medical books?... there is still 'The fellowship of the Hand', 'The Twin Towers', 'Return of the Aiel', 'The Trollobit' and 'The Shayolguhllion'... can't that bloody bondmate of mine not stay put at one topic? No! I'm allowed to go all the way from Athan miere ile to books on warfare; then on Tower history to go back to Aiel culture... -hmm maybe I should do that first it is closeby- and then have to run of to find boks about biology or maybe even theories about creatures to end up with books about the blight. Flamin' woolhead!

For a while kiren kept muttering in her mind about what Rialt had her do at the moment, but as she knew that -in the end- it had been her own choice to do this she'd not complain to him. surely she'd mutter something about his weird sense of reading books or doing research; but that would be all.

So for some time Kiren walked around in the library, occasionally taking out a book; or taking a novicecloseby to stack some books on the pile she was holding. and by the time she'd reached the area about the blight she already had all the other books plus those about medics of the mind... now only those about medics of the body and that 'Shayolguhllion'. but off course the bookwas no-where to be seen.
"Light blasted trollockpie in a mothersmilkcup!" the curse was out in the open before she could stop her and she quickly let her gaze run around to see whether no one of the Brown or the Windtalons had heard. But there seemed to be no-one around but one... and the scent coming from that one was fresh and young, and somewhat shoqued. a novice or accepted... thank the light. after all, Aes Sedai and Asha'man always smelled older, and would smell annoyed and angry-ish at her display of her foul tongue.

But she told me the book was in... damnit! She walked a bit further up to the novice whose head was switching between her book and the gaidin, but as soon as Kiren came in clear sight the novice dropped in a dueful curtsey.
"Hey... Would you mind helping me a hand. I need you to run up to the main librarian and ask whether she has seen "The Shayolguhllion" pass; and if someone tries to take it with him that it should stay here for the Mahdi; just Say Kiren Gaidin sent you."

Kathera Galwyn - January 8, 2005 06:59 PM (GMT)
Stiffling a sigh, Kathera shut the book on Aiel, and trotted off to the librarian. Curtsying, she spoke. "Do you have 'The Shayolguhllion' in the library at the moment?" The brown nodded, and bustled off, leaving Kathera to follow. Muttering about browns, she walked moodily behind the woman. The brown stopped at a shelf, handing the book to her. "Thanky you Aes Sedai." she said while curtsying, or at least trying to curtsy, how does one curtsy with a book in hand? Muttering under her breath some more, she headed back to the table, and Kiren Thym. Trying to curtsy once again, she handed the book over before sitting down and opening the book and Aeil once again.

Bloody curtsies... still muttering about the topic, Kathera once again peered at the small text, trying to make it out, as she skimmed the lines, she glanced at the gaidin, then went back to reading. If dry, the book was packed with ionformation. If there was any conclusion to be found with this book, the Aeil were strange people. How does one get clean by sweating? Shaking her head, even though sshe knew they couldn't very well have baths in the Blight, as they didn't have enough water, Kathera squinted, having trouble making out a word.
