Title: Contest!
Description: Read me!

Rialt Erydinan - November 16, 2004 03:38 AM (GMT)
Well, as you all have noticed, I have changed the ugly blue buttons on our boards to something more wheel of time fitting. However, I made them, and I think that we can do better. Soooo, I'm gonna have a contest. The purpose of this contest is, make buttons for the site! Host them, and post them in this thread. You will need one button for forum markers, one button for new posts forum markers, and also, if you open a forum, you will notice the markers for threads are these ugly red and blue folders. So we need to bust something cool out.

Sooo, the winner gets their buttons used on the website. Your lovely administrators decide on the winner, and it shall be announced by me putting them on here one day! For now, i figure my ugly yin yang thingy's will have to do.

Have fun, and make sure the buttons are the right size.

I'd be happy to do this, or at least participate, but my only concern is hosting. I have my own site, but I don't know that I'd want to host them on that forever... Would it be possible for me to host them temporarily, and then we could switch it? Thanks. Cool, idea!

Rialt Erydinan - November 16, 2004 04:00 AM (GMT)
I will be hosting whichever ones we pick. So yes, you can host them temporarily and then I will save and upload them myself.

Elysia - November 18, 2004 04:54 PM (GMT)
It would be easier if you determined the "right" size =0)

Edited the Yin/Yang ones a bit =0)

Oh wow... just saw this thread... *goes of to make cool little fusions buttons* hehehe...

and btw, you have lots of those blue bottons still.. like reply, edit, report, new topic, etc...so perhaps if someone did those as well...

EDIT: do you have the RGB values for the color of the background of the forum so I can make the button actually seem to be a part of it?

(as for size, the buttons there now are 24 x 24 pixels)

Lyla - November 24, 2004 01:32 PM (GMT)
Nanaia, you can just 'print screen' then look at the RGB thingy in photoshop :P

Cayana Alhi - November 24, 2004 06:35 PM (GMT)
Or you check the source code :P (background color for posts and such: #343A36)

Yeah yeah yeah... I know I have better things to do then this. :look I also know that I love making pics and this kind is the easiest one to play with. ^^ I do like the yin-yang ones, but I suggest taking away the dots as they do not belong in WoT.

uhm My suggestion

The blue might be a bad idea since it is dark, I actually like Elysias yellow color, you can easily spot that one...

Lyla - November 24, 2004 07:01 PM (GMT)
Cay, I love yours :)
I like the Blue actually (:look) though I think the white one should be for new posts and the blue for no new posts, and not the other way around :)

Marian Skylas - November 24, 2004 07:41 PM (GMT)
Ooh. Pretty.

Nanaia Sangre - November 24, 2004 08:08 PM (GMT)
*nods enthusiastically* I give up :)
Yours are better than mine anyway, though I am pretty sure you can't change the help/search/members/calender buttons at the very top of the site. Could be wrong :look

Sapphira Calren - November 24, 2004 08:43 PM (GMT)
Ooh, I like those Cayana. :) I'm with Lyla on the blue/white thing though, if only because white is easier to see against this background. :)

Cayana Alhi - November 25, 2004 05:21 AM (GMT)
I guess that was why I said that about the yellow :P

So Mother, Lyla, you are suggesting this then?

Nanaia: hmm you should be able to... but then again, I don't know how this forum works administration wise, so *shrugs* it's no big deal I made them just in case ;)

Lyla - November 25, 2004 02:54 PM (GMT)
*nods*
exactly what I'm saying :)

Zekieal al'Kith - November 27, 2004 07:24 PM (GMT)
give sidivin some time guys *thought he mentioned that on this board* he is making some purty nice looking buttons, just not finished yet.

Sidivin Yahbree - November 28, 2004 01:34 AM (GMT)
Ah.. Here we go...

All I have for now is a small sample, but the set should be completed before long. ^^

I'm going to change the little pictures to something a bit more WoT-oriented as soon as I can find something suitable...

Cayana Alhi - November 28, 2004 03:23 PM (GMT)
ooo *thinks those can look really nice once finished* could you perhaps give us a highlighted sample as well? :) *hugs Sidivin*

Sidivin Yahbree - November 28, 2004 04:24 PM (GMT)
Actually, I'm hoping to use Fireworks to make them interactive.

(This is assuming that I have time on my hands...) <_<

Cayana Alhi - November 29, 2004 01:18 PM (GMT)
ah I meant like for those threads that there where new posts in and such, but yeah ^^ *hopes sidivin gets some time on his hands*

Sidivin Yahbree - December 1, 2004 04:41 AM (GMT)
Here are some of the completed buttons (except for the animations)

I decided to leave out the interactive stuff so our page loading time wouldn't die... :look

Ok... Fixed the whiteness...

Mishael - December 2, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
they don't love you here, Cay. Come to my site and make buttons for me. Please *begs* :look

Sidivin Yahbree - December 2, 2004 01:40 AM (GMT)
Ok, I've added some more. Here are the ones you've seen:

BTW, The animated one was made by someone else, and I tweaked it only slightly and made the second one out of it. These are best viewed in Internet Explorer. For some reason the animation goes crazy in Netscape... <_<

Sapphira Calren - December 2, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
Those are great, but don't you think the moving will take forever to load on dial-up?

Sidivin Yahbree - December 2, 2004 02:24 AM (GMT)
That is a possibility. I suggest we make a test-run to ensure it's stability.

Also, there shouldn't be that many of these on the site. It only serves to alert you to unread posts. I usually don't have very many, and I suspect that with most others it is the same. The file size of the animation is actually quite close to that of a normal pic.

Cayana Alhi - December 2, 2004 09:43 AM (GMT)
Mishael: poke me some day and perhaps I can help you ;)

Sidivin: the animations are just twice as large :P but it works alright in my netscape version o.O as well as in Safari... what version of netscape did you check it in?

Sidivin Yahbree - December 2, 2004 10:56 PM (GMT)
It's not that it doesn't work, it's just that in Netscape it goes way too fast. It is supposed to move realatively slow...

Maybe it's just my comp... <_<

Guest - December 3, 2004 01:18 AM (GMT)
no, in firefox it goes pretty fast too. It is to distracting (though really nifty) so if it was slower somehow then I'd say close the contest.

Nanaia Sangre - December 3, 2004 01:19 AM (GMT)
that was me :look

Sidivin Yahbree - December 3, 2004 04:50 AM (GMT)
Allright... I have no idea how to adjust the framerate in Fireworks, so I'll have to just add extra frames unless someone can tell me how...

(I have Fireworks MX 2004)

Guest - December 3, 2004 09:47 AM (GMT)
in firefox the spin thing is 5.3 kb, while the other is 1.23 kb... looks more then twice to me :P
in explorer... well, it won't let me see it in the properties, and for some reason when I try saving it I can only save it as .bmp

and Sidivin, I actually think that, at least for some ppl, there will be many of the animations on the site... it's timezone related (I think) when you come to this site, it's activity time, there are not many unread posts for you, cuz you're on when most of the posts are posted... when I get on, very few boards are marked as no new posts... ppl with dailup around my time zone will have a problem

Lyla - December 3, 2004 10:09 AM (GMT)
grr that was me.. sowwy

Cayana Alhi - December 3, 2004 10:20 AM (GMT)
That is probably a good reason to not have animations. The buttons however are beautiful. Perhaps you could use them anyway but without animating and actually use colors instead? (unless there is a way to use profiles that also changes buttons but I don't know anything about that so nm) Just an idea *likes Sidivins buttons even if they move fast in anything but explorer :P*

Sidivin Yahbree - December 3, 2004 09:32 PM (GMT)
The posts are marked as unread only if you don't read them. A quick click of the icon, however, marks the entire forum as read.

Really, we don't know how much this will affect ppl, which is why we need to do a test-run.

Lyla - December 4, 2004 08:35 AM (GMT)
but I want them to be marked as unread. that's how I know where there are new posts :P

Marian Skylas - December 4, 2004 03:38 PM (GMT)
Ooo! 0.o I like them, Sidivin Asha'man!

All of you are right though. I suppose it might take some time to load. It works fine on mine. Not really sure what I have though, sorry...
