Title: The Quest For 'Ezrael' (From Tower Grounds)
Description: OtA

Edeleas al'Kuar - December 5, 2004 12:51 AM (GMT)
(Please see my bio regarding who Ezrael is. Thanks.)

Edeleas walked disconsolately on Tar Valon's wide, paved streets, his shoulders slumping because of weariness and the lack of sleep. Who thought training to become Asha'man was hard?

He sat down on a bench, looking up at the people who passed him by. He felt really dry. He missed the days he'd spent in Shol Arbela, walking down the streets doing whatever struck his fancy.

Twiddling his thumbs and breathing deeply, he wondered how he could spend his free time and do something productive. And that was when his memory stirred.

Go on, boy. This gateway leads to Fal Moran.

T-thank you, but who are you, really? Why are you helping me?

I have told you before. I am Ezrael. I am who I appear to be. Now go.

His green eyes widened at the recollection. Edeleas stood up, looking at the people milling past. Maybe one of them knew who Ezrael was, and where was he.

All he had to do was ask.

Cayana Alhi - December 5, 2004 12:46 PM (GMT)
(OOC: I hope that you are aware of that Soldiers are not allowed in the city, not without permission anyway? :) (just a friendly reminder))

4 weeks had gone by without a single thing out of the ordinary routine work. Cayana had never liked when things where constantly the same. She got bored of it. The novices and Accepted hadn't even done any larger pranks then normal or more often then normal. It was all the same, people being late, novices talking through out the nights, reports not being done, not showing up for chores or just the most common of them all, novices not cleaning their rooms. Cayana sighed as she walked through the garden along the path. She was on yet an other routine part of her job, a random check of the part of the garden that connected the towers together. A place where novices and accepted sometimes thought that they might be able to hide with a lover or flirt or something similar. There where always girls who didn't understand the rules about not hanging with the recruits, younglings, soldiers or dedicated during their time in training. Some had to learn the hard way.

As she was walking along the path Cayana was looking from side to side. There was quite a lot of activity in the garden today. But that was not odd as it was midday and those who didn't have garden chores had a break from their classes and other things that usually kept them busy. She had not spotted anything that wasn't normal behavior though and so she kept on walking.

Being such a young Aes Sedai Cayana had yet a few years before she would earn the agelessness that accompanied those who had sworn the oath on the oath rod. She had slowed as all channelers did and didn't look much older then 25. Even though she was young she didn't ware her shawl anymore to show her rank. Among the new people around the towers, only those who knew the site of the serpent ring and knew the dress code of the tower would know that she was Aes Sedai and no longer Aes Sedai in training. Those who weren't new however usually knew she was the Mistress of Novices.

Walking past one of the benches, Cayana hadn't really been paying any attention to the soldier sitting there alone, the man sitting upon it suddenly rose. She had to stop completely to avoid walking into him or the others walking past. She looked down at the young man with a questioning expression on her face. He seemed a bit... lost? She didn't recognize the boy, but then again she rarely spent any time in the Black Tower training areas. "Can I help you boy?" She asked him. She had stopped and a conversation with a strange man might ease her mood a little.

Edeleas swallowed nervously. He suddenly remembered that Soldiers were not allowed into the city without permission, and the Aes Sedai's gaze hammered that point into his head.

Burn you, he cursed himself silently. You've just been here for a week and now you're heaping trouble onto yourself!

He shifted under her gaze; ever since coming to Tar Valon he had become increasingly jittery. Maybe it was because of the hard work he had been loaded - the nerve-wracking and back-breaking labor Soldiers were put into. And some of those snotty Dedicated shouting orders and bossing around weren't doing anything good.

The Aes Sedai waited for his answer. He couldn't bring himself to look at her.

"If you don't m-mind, Aes Sedai." Edeleas said breathily as he stared at his boots. "D-do you know anyone named Ezrael? A-a man, tall, with inky black hair and...a-and mismatched eyes? I-I have some things t-to say to him. H-he's an Asha'man."

The Aes Sedai blinked. Edeleas flinched, waiting for any blow to come. He was going to have to stop being such a paranoid.

As she spoke to the boy he started stammering an answer. "If you don't m-mind, Aes Sedai." He started. "D-do you know anyone named Ezrael? A-a man, tall, with inky black hair and...a-and mismatched eyes? I-I have some things t-to say to him. H-he's an Asha'man." Cayana couldn't help but to look at him a bit puzzled. Except for the mismatched eyes thing that description probably fit half of the Asha'man in the tower. "Isn't the city the wrong place to look for an Asha'man?" She gestured for him to start walking. "Mismatched eyes you say, how do you mean by that?" Few ever asked for those that had brought them to the tower, so Cayana suspected that this 'Ezrael' hadn't brought this boy here. To her recollection she couldn't remember any Ezrael at all but, as the Aes Sedai, the Asha'man sometimes used the words 'call me..' when someone asked for a name. It made it easier to avoid being found if you didn't want to and the oaths didn't hinder it since it was a sentence without any value of truth in it.

She listened to Edeleas explanation of what he meant and thought back to see if she could recall such a man. She couldn't. That wasn't all to surprising, she didn't know all the Black Tower members at all. She could how ever ask Rialt if he knew. "I am sorry but I can't recall such a man, did he actually say that his name was Ezrael?" To ask if the man was actually Asha'man was silly, if the boy was here he knew what an Asha'man was as soon as he had had his first class and if the man hadn't been what he seemed to be this boy surely would have changed his opinion about it. "By the way, what is your name?" Cayana suddenly added and looked at the boy. He seemed so frightened in a way. She probably had caught him doing something else, or just doing something wrong. She just hoped he wouldn't crack on her like some novices did before her when confronted on their various pranks and mischief's. At least not before they got back to Tower grounds.

"I am sorry but I can't recall such a man, did he actually say that his name was Ezrael?"

Edeleas felt disappointment sink heavily into his stomach. It certainly looked like he was asking the wrong person. How much did Aes Sedai know of all the residents of the Black Tower anyway? He had to regain his cool logic and thinking; he wouldn't survive long if he kept up this stupidity.

He explained to her everything he knew about his savior, that he was not sure if his name really was Ezrael, how they had met, and so on and so forth. Her face was all perfect serenity as he spoke, but he was sure she could sense his fright, if she had not already.

Being suddenly associated with the Power was not something you accepted easily, much less murdering hundreds of innocent bystanders with it.

When the Aes Sedai demanded his name, however, Edeleas felt like she had hit her with a pan on the head. No, surely she wouldn't have him packed off and returned to his father. Surely not.

"I am Edeleas al'Kuar, Aes Sedai. F-from Cairhien." he replied.

"I see. Edeleas, are you aware that Soldiers are not allowed in the grounds without permission?"

He shifted nervously on his boots. "Yes, Aes Sedai. I just hoped...somebody here would know Ezrael, and... I-I know it's no use explaining, Aes Sedai. Pardon me, Aes Sedai. I am returning to the Black Tower now. Thank you very much."

He bowed deeply and respectfully, a bow that would have made his parents proud and the current Queen of Cairhien impressed. With that he departed for the Black Tower, more questions popping in his mind.

Where on earth could he find Ezrael?

Did he even really existed?

But he knew for the meantime, he had to worry more about his chores and classes.
