To Asha'man Mishael of the Red Shen,
if you have time I'd like to continue our lessons. Please respond to this if you are available at one of the following dates |
Cayana looked at the paper in front of her. It had been along time since she had asked a favor of anyone without really really needing it. The difference now was that Mishael had offered, something that in Cayanas experience didn't happen to often. She was sure that he had been surprised to see her in tel'aran'rhiod and even more sure he had stayed behind after she had left. A departure that had felt quite shaking even if she was sure it would have been worse if he had done something to wake her up. However she felt more sure about him this way, he was of the Red Shen and an Asha'man at that. As one of the wolfkin in the Towers Cayana didn't think he'd be a darkfriend even if the darkfriends would have found a way into the Red Shen. Darkfriends among Aes Sedai and Asha'man was a feeling that just felt so strange, Aes Sedai seldom even insinuated such a thing, but it was something that had been proven during the time of the Dragon Reborn and a fact that the Red Shen dedicated their lives to get rid of, in the tower and elsewhere.
Finishing off the letter, with a few nights she had the morning time after a little easier then usual, she signed it with her name and titles, not including her noble one. She then sealed the letter with her personal seal, a rose on white wax before sending it off with a servant to be delivered to Mishael. She then returned to study her books in order to come up with some questions to ask. He might have other plans for her, but without any questions the lesson would end up a waste. That was her experience with these sort of things anyway.
-----------------------------
Mishaels answer had been clear, the day had been clear. She had hoped for one of the others, but it would be fine, the novice she was teaching the next morning was most likely not going to channel anyway even if Cayana was trying hard to deal with the girls block. I really should put one of the former wilders on that girl, perhaps they will figure it out... Blocks where always a tricky thing and Cayana hadn't been a wilder herself. The traditional things rarely worked and thinking outside of the box was tough since all blocks where different.
Cayana shoved all the thoughts out of her head as she laid down on her bed and put the ter'angreal on her chest. It was time to learn now, not to think about how to teach others. She closed her eyes, relaxed and drifted off to sleep. As she opened her eyes she was once more in her room, this time in tel'aran'rhiod and she could tell straight away that she was there. She wondered though why she had stepped into her room both times she had gone here. Perhaps there was an explanation for that. However it was something Cayana didn't feel like asking Mishael, especially since was dressed in the same manner in which she had gone to bed.
Cayana stood up and concentrated in order to make her thin shift into a nice and thick woolen dress, her hands where bare but her feet where in good and stout shoes instead of soft slippers like she had walked around in earlier that day. Then she 'shifted' to the yard where she and Mishael had met before. She knew quite well that he could find her if he wanted to, but she did not want to meet him in her bedroom of all places. The man was after all here to teach her, it was not a proper place to do such a thing.

Mishael didn't really expect Cayana to ask for another meeting, But Mishael did offer so he was obliged to follow through with his promise. He set the date on a night he would be visiting with the wolves. He slipped into the wolf dream early that night, wanting to get his visit done with quickly. He was soon waiting for Cayana in the gardens where he found her the last time. After a short wait he could feel some one enter the wolf dream in the Tower. Glow Storm wiated patiently for Cayana to move out of her bedroom, it wouldn't be proper for him to go into her room. She soon apeared in the clearing, wearing stout woolens, though they changed almost imediatley. Glow Storm made a table and two chairs and took a seat. "I'm going to assume that you have more questions, otherwise you wouldn't have asked to come back here" Glow Storm gestured for her to sit as well.

As soon as Cayana stood in the yard a table and two chairs appeared. She turned around to face Mishael as he sat down and felt quite embarrassed as she realized that her clothes shifted. Concentrating a little more she made them come back the same as earlier and joined him at the table. "Do they ever end?" She answered him with a smile that could have been followed by a wink had Cayana not been taking this lesson quite seriously. "How much is really known about the history of tel'aran'rhiod? I can't seem to find any references on it anywhere." It was a question she could have asked at anytime, but she asked it here for two reasons, one being that she didn't think they'd be disturbed here, not with Mishaels little gift anyway. The second was something she would be keeping to herself.
As for the references Cayana hadn't found anything about tel'aran'rhiod in itself, just about former dreamwalkers as Egwene al'Vere and others before her and after. But in their books she just couldn't find anything about tel'aran'rhiods history or purpose, just how to deal with it and what you could do in it. How a realm came to exist was interesting, the ways for example had been created by male Aes Sedai of old and it had been tainted with Saidin as Saidin had been tainted by the dark one. There was a clear history about that realm. But there where many without such clear dates of births and creations. Cayana didn't doubt for a second that some realms where, like their own, created by the Creator himself. But she still wanted to see if someone knew of it since some had been made with the help of the One power and others had been linked by the same means.

As she took her seat she said, "How much is really known about the history of tel'aran'rhiod? I can't seem to find any references on it anywhere." Glow Storm almost laughed. "Tel'aran'rhiod has no history. it is here, as it has always been. It might be hard to describe, but it is. If it had a histor, it would be a reflection of our worlds' history, only without human life. This is a realm of existance, not some human creation. All realms of existance are simply there, even the Ways weren't created by man, they were only tapped into. This might help" Glow storm concentarted on a thread. " Imagine that this is the Pattern the moment the Creator made it." The thread split. "This is the Pattern after the first event, every even alters the pattern, even if it is just you deciding weather to eat an apple or not. every chance action causes an infinate number of reactions." The split thread split millions of times, weaving itself together at the same time. "but through all of this there is tel'aran'rhiod" A straight thread began to glow within the weave. "This world touches all, but it specifically intertwines itself with the real world, our out come of these events." Another thread glowed, twined around the already glowing one. "That is why this plane reflects ours so exclusively. I hpoe you under stand this"

If it wasn't because Mishael had steered his explanation onto tel'aran'rhiod quite soon Cayanas temper would most likely had flared wether she wanted it to or not. She did not like to be talked down to and to explain the way the pattern worked to an Aes Sedai no matter age was quite patronizing. She managed to keep calm all the way though. "So it reflects the outcomes but not the presence? That is why it is so empty of life here?" She wondered if any animals could dream walk, she had seen notes about wolfkin dreamwalking, but nothing about how they could do this or if it was because they where dreamwalkers as well as wolfkin. At the moment she didn't want to ask though. She probably would a little later. "You speak about the realms as if you know about them quite a lot, not only tel'aran'rhiod. Have you studied the realms outside of our own and tel'aran'rhiod?" She couldn't help but to ask that question, he was quite a bit older then her and could very well have had time to do so, how ever if he hadn't she would take that in regard as he spoke about other realms that the two.
Mishael - December 12, 2004 07:58 PM (GMT)
"You speak about the realms as if you know about them quite a lot, not only tel'aran'rhiod. Have you studied the realms outside of our own and tel'aran'rhiod?"
"I haven't quite studied the other realms, but I have passed through them quite often and I always find that it is wisest to know where you are going."It was thrue, Mishael had traveled through many of the other planes of existance, but that was always while hunting a darkfriend.
OOC: sorryy it was so short, I can't think :P
Cayana Alhi - December 12, 2004 08:04 PM (GMT)
Cayana only nodded in response. There where quite a few of the realms that hadn't been explored. If he thought it wisest to know where he was going had he gone to those unrecorded as well? Perhaps, after all, not everyone followed their own good advice. "Could you perhaps explain this 'need' thing, Naria Sedai mentions it briefly in her books, something about being able to travel close or to that which you need if you concentrate hard enough on it?" It had been a quite confusing part, always interrupted in the explanations with warnings about not doing it. It had gotten to Cayanas nerves and she had skipped it after reading the same warning the third time. She hoped that Mishael could teach her a little about it with out the constant interruptions.
Mishael - December 12, 2004 08:16 PM (GMT)
Light, she had to ask about that, didn't she? Glow Storm carfully woded his responce. "The use of 'need' is oneof the mot dangerous things you can do in the dream world. It is the use of your own desparation for a solution that drives you blindly to a place where your dimlema can be solved. The first jump with need takes you to a place, and each jump after takes you closer and closer to the place where you need to go. But this is very dangerous, because it requires a blind, unprepared jump that can take you anywhere. You must never use need unless you find that it is the only way to get what you need." Glow Storm didn't want to explain this, but he had to. Hpoefully Cayana was intelegent enough to know to never try it.
"The only time I have ever used need was when Nanaia and I were tracking a specifially strong member of the Black Shen who was murdering ambassadors from Andor to the Towers. if it were to any other country, I wouldn't have done it, but we need to keep relations with Andor open." Glow Storm hoped she understood the gravity of that situation.
Cayana Alhi - December 12, 2004 08:27 PM (GMT)
As Mishael explained the pieces of that she had read fit together a lot better and the warnings seemed more reasonable. To be in tel'aran'rhiod in itself wasn't the easiest thing on your own, to at that rush blindly into any place at all could take you off of a cliff or into a pit of poisonous snakes if you weren't careful. It seemed quite dangerous. To hear Mishael tell of hunting's of the Black Shen made her nod how ever. She could understand how such a thing was necessary, Andor was the nation Tar Valon always needed to keep in alliance, Andor like the borderlands had always served as Tar Valons strongest points of influence. Other countries was influenced as well, but most by advisors (officially or in secret).
"Is sleep the only way to enter this place?" She couldn't help herself from asking that either. She wouldn't ever dream of trying it. Light if she wasn't willing to learn first on about the realms she wouldn't have visited this place even in this manner. It just seemed as the least dangerous realms that she knew of so far, besides that blackness you entered when you skimmed.
