Title: February Chores
Marian Skylas - February 7, 2005 09:17 PM (GMT)
((OOC: Just to clear up any confusion, yes, I'm Accepted, but I still get to do chores, just not to the same extent, or so the Aes Sedai here say. :) Mwaha... Hello, all my novice friends!))
Marian walked steadily down the library of the White Tower, basket of towels to dust with at her hip. When she had been a novice, she would have been nearly running to it for chores, but now that she was Accepted, she had a little bit of leeway. She still would have to take part in the chores, but it was more lax than when she had been a novice. She sighed, thinking about the chores ahead of her. She had been assigned with some of her novice friends, and that was good, but she hadn't seen most of them since her raising. How would they act around her? Worse, how would she act around them? Had anything changed?
She shook her head to herself, uncomfortable with the thought. They were still her friends, even if she was Accepted and they were novices. Nothing had changed other than her dress. She certainly didn't want to treat them any differently. Light, she wouldn't even think of sending them to the Mistress of Novices! Marian would never forgive herself! She smiled to herself, thinking of the meeting Kathera and she had had recently in the library. Kathera didn't treat her any differently, and Marian felt even more comfortable with Shaya now. Perhaps it would all work out. But would the others treat her the same?
Walking into the library, she saw that she was the first to arrive. They would be dusting books and shining shelves this time. She set the basket down on a table and plucked a towl out for herself. She began to shine the table off, waiting for the others. "Back to chores," she muttered.
Kathera Galwyn - February 9, 2005 03:45 AM (GMT)
Kathera walk quickly to the library, overjoyed that this time she would be working in the library. And maybe she would see Marian. The novice didn't really know if Accepted would be included in this chore group. Stopping, the short girl pushed open the door, and inhaled the sent of books. Ah, how she loved the library. And the books... They could be the best thing in her world, sometimes. Spoting her Accepted friend, Kathera smiled a little. So she would get to work alongside Marian again, after all. Walking over to her friend, she gave Marian a very deep curtsy, bigger than the ones she used for Aes Sedai.
Giving Marian a grin, she spoke meekly. "Reporting for chores, Marian Accepted." Her eyes twinkling, she spoke again. "You'll looking well, Marian Accepted. Is it time to work, Marian Accepted? Yes, I will be quiet now, Marian Accepted." Bursting into low laughter at the look on the Accepted's face, Kathera grabbed a dusting cloth and spoke again. "Don't get used to that... you probably won't even get the like of it when you become Aes Sedai...." Her voice trailing off, Kathera glanced around the library. To be a brown... A pleasant dream, really. Perhaps someday it would be more than a dream.
Oh, how she often wished that someday would come. Sometimes, Kathera wondered what she would do when she was a novice and Marian was an Aes Sedai. It was very likely her friend would become Aes Sedai before she even joined the ranks of the Accepted. Not a very pleasant thought, really. The novice couldn't imagine curtsying to her friend and actually meaning it. Now that would be one horrible day. Not that she didn't want her friend to become Aes Sedai, of course. Of course...
Alilisa Kardef - February 9, 2005 03:18 PM (GMT)
Alilisa was muttering to herself down the halls and yawning. She was getting tired of doing chores. Of course she didn't mind dusting, it was just that she was always tired. Sometimes she wondered if becoming an Aes Sedai would be worth it, sometimes she just wanted to go home. But then again she really didn't have a home to go back to, and wasn't sure if her parents were still alive.
Alilisa entered the library, and found Marian and Kathera already there. "Hello Kathera and Marian Accepted." oh how Alilisa wished her mentor would hurry with the training, Alilisa was ready to become accepted!
Alilisa looked around to see that the library shelves were indeed dusty. "What should I start on first?" Alilisa wondered aloud, she didn't like to be the first to do anything. She wondered what the other two girls would do.
Marian Skylas - February 9, 2005 09:20 PM (GMT)
Marian couldn't help but grit her teeth when the novices addressed her. Even though Kathera laughed... Light. Marian had never been the kind of person that like people bowing and scraping for her, even when she had been a noble's child. She'd come from a good family, and Seshi had been a moral teacher. The title was too much among her friends... "You don't have to call me that," she muttered, tossing them both some rags to dust with.
She herself took one of the rags and began working on one of the far shelves, just so she could think to herself. The novices could get themselves dusting rags alone. They had done it without her before, and they didn't need her now. Distant from the other girls, she thought to herself, cleaning quietly.
That was another thing that had changed since she had become Accepted. She wanted her alone time. Being around everyone all the time was tiring, though she still cared for her friends very much. Perhaps she'd take a trip to the City soon...
Kathera Galwyn - February 10, 2005 03:11 AM (GMT)
Kathera sighed as Marian moved away, looking unhappy. Giving herself a mental note to never joke to her friend about her being Accepted, she walked quietly over to her friend, and began to dust next to her. "I'm sorry... I didn't know joking about your status would make you angry." Kathera looked over at Marian, hoping her friend could forgive her. Sometimes you just crossed the line between jokes and... seriousness. Trying to smile, the short novice spoke in a rather shaky voice. "I'l remeber to never adress you like that... even though some Aes Sedai just might have fits about it." The idea of Aes Sedai having fits was sort of funny, but Kathera's smile drooped as she waited for Marian's awnser. Her friend had been rather unhappy, as everyone she knew was a novice, and therefore below her. "In fact, I'l treat you just like... like before." Kathera turned to Marian, and sighed.
Miakoda - February 10, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
Miakoda walked through the tower halls to the library. Even though she had to do chores there it was still the best thing that could happen her. The library was something that she loved. She pushed open the big heavy wooden doors and walked in they shut with ease and silence. That still had surprised her, Miakoda always waited for them to bang shut. She walked through the library and found some other of the novices that she had sorta made friends with. She had remember one of the girls from her lunch the other day. Alilisa
Was her name. Miakoda smiled but than lost it once she had seen that she was with two other girls one in all white and the other had seven colours around her rim of her dress. Meaning that she was an Accepted. She made her way over to them with a smile on her face. “good morning.” she gave her bow to the Accepted.
OOC: sorry it's short just running out of time.
Shaya - February 15, 2005 05:47 PM (GMT)
Shaya rushed down the hall, if she hadn't managed to spill ink on her dress in her rush to get everything ready for classes, she might actually have been on time for her chores. But as things were, she had to go back to her room to change. Knowing it would be near impossible to remove the black ink from the white dress, she had actually risked embracing Saidar briefly to lift the ink from the fabric. It had only been the tiniest weave, but she had been expecting to see an Aes Sedai burst in at any time to hang her out to dry for channeling without permission. When that didn't happen, she had put the dress away quickly and rushed out to meet up with the other novices in the Library. She hoped they wouldn't think she was late on purpose, for she knew she had a bit of a reputation for trying to avoid chores when she could.
Mostly they were the very unpleasant ones though, like scrubbing pots, or mucking the stables. Since the young stableboys were very impressionable and susceptible to the charms of an older woman, she had actually managed to get them to do her mucking for her quite a few times. She had to be careful though, if any Aes Sedai every found out about that one, she'd never leave the stables until there was grey in her hair. She was already the oldest novice currently in the Tower and she had no intention of becoming the oldest novice in the history of the Tower. She actually didn't mind dusting in the library. It was warm and dry in there and it didn't involve greasy water or smelly manure. She would happily trade dusting for any other chore any time. Pushing her way through the doors of the library, she immediately noticed Marian and three novices. She smiled; it was so like Marian to keep up with her chores, even though she could easily delegate them to the novices now. Giving her friend a warm smile and the curtsy she deserved, Shaya extended her smile to the other novices.
"Good morning all, I trust you have left some dust for me?" She winked and walked over to collect one of the dust rags that Marian had provided. It didn't look like they had been busy for too long yet, so Shaya hoped she'd get away with being late. Moving over to the nearest isle of books, she began to dust them, working her way down from the top. Over her shoulder she asked: "And how is everyone this fine morning? Did you all sleep well? Pleasant dreams filled with good looking men and all that?"
Freyja Annolyn - February 17, 2005 06:50 PM (GMT)
Freyja walked through the halls of the White Tower. She was supposed to do chores in the library. She hadn't been there yet. She had got instructions from an Aes Sedai and she turned left in a corner. She foung big wooden doors and hoped that she had gone the right way. She opened the heavy doors and looked inside.
It was indeed the library. There were bookselves everywhere, all full of books. Her eyes widened. She had seen the library in Caemlyn and thought that that was the best the library in the world. But apparently she had been terribly wrong. The Tower's library was huge. She was sure that she would find anything she needed from the isles of books. She had loved studying in her childhood but had lost that interest after she got married. But I will find the passion again here, I'm sure of it.
She walked to the nearest bookself and picked up a book at random. The Nations, it was called. The book looked very tempting. She wondered if she could just take the book and sit down to read. They wouldn't miss me in the chore-group... Shooking her head she put the book back to the self and walked forward. I don't want to get in trouble already. I just came here, there's no need to try to bend the rules this early. She noticed a group of novices dusting the shelves and headed towards them.
There were four novices already. She recognised one of them to be her roommate. She noticed that none of the other novices looked much younger than she was. She had thought that most of them would be 14 or 15, but apparently they weren't. A novice with wavy raven hair looked even older than Freyja. She must be past twenty. I didn't know they took girls so old to the Tower. She was relieved that she wouldn't have to deal with young little girls who knew nothing of life. "Good morning everyone", she started. She noticed an Accepted cleaning the shelves too and gave her a curtsy. "Good morning, Accepted. I'm afraid I'm new here and I don't know any of you. My name is Freyja Annolyn. I came here to do chores. I hope I'm in the right place." She stood there looking at them, waiting for a reply.
Marian Skylas - February 17, 2005 10:31 PM (GMT)
When Kathera smiled, she couldn't help but forgive her. Marian couldn't stay annoyed or upset for long. It just wasn't in her nature. Instead, she greeted Miakoda with a smile and continued dusting, joking with Kathera. She was glad Kathera still thought of her as the same, even with the bloody Great Serpent Ring. Maybe one of the novices would join her soon. It would be nice to have an old friend among her ranks. She swatted some dust at Kathera, and looked up to see Shaya coming in. Marian cared for the older novice, especially now that she was Accepted. With a grin, she waved her rag at Shaya, who seemed to be in a particularly pleasant mood that morning.
"Good morning all, I trust you have left some dust for me?" Shaya asked. Marian swept her arm grandly across the library's vast shelves, a perfect imitation of an arrogant queen. "Of course, we have," she said promptly. "We wouldn't want to... deprive you, of this... perfect learning experience." She rolled her eyes and shook her head, listening to Shaya ask her next question. "And how is everyone this fine morning? Did you all sleep well? Pleasant dreams filled with good looking men and all that?" Marian laughed. "If we sleep at all," she replied, glancing at Kathera. Her friend had brought her good spirits back, at least for the moment, and she wasn't going to lose them.
After they had dusted for awhile, a novice that Marian had never met joined them. By the looks on the novices' faces, and the way the girl introduced herself, Marian figured she was one of the newer girls. I seem to miss much in the novice halls now, she thought to herself, regretfully. The Accepted girls were a bit too solemn and serious sometimes. Where had all the gossip gone? "Good morning everyone," said the new girl. "Good morning, Accepted." Marian waved away the title, turning to face the new girl. "I'm afraid I'm new here and I don't know any of you. My name is Freyja Annolyn. I came here to do chores. I hope I'm in the right place." Ah, Marian had been right. She gave Freyja a friendly smile and introduced herself. "I'm Marian, and yes, you are in the correct place," she explained. She tossed the girl a rag with a wink. "Ever dusted before?"
((OOC: Sorry... Marian had a mood swing... :eyebrow ))
Freyja Annolyn - February 20, 2005 07:17 PM (GMT)
Freyja was a bit relieved when the Accepted gave her a friendly smile and said: "I'm Marian, and yes, you are in the correct place." Freyja had been a bit afraid that the other girls wouldn't like her to join. But the Accepted threw her a rag with a wink. "Ever dusted before?" she asked. Freyja frowned at the rag and answered: "Yes, I'm quite used to it." She walked to the nearest bookself and started dusting. She had had servants in her home when she still lived in Caemlyn but she had done some housework now and then. Especially when she had been bored.
She glimpsed at the books she was dusting and her fingers itched again. She wanted to just throw the rag away and take a book. They looked so inviting. But she just dusted. She tried to think of something else than the books. It's a lovely weather out there. No, it didn't work. Her thoughts returned to the books but she eased her itching fingers making a promise to herself that she would come back here to read as soon as she had some free time.
To get her mind of the books and the monotonic dusting she tried to find out a little more about the other girls she was working with. "So how long have you been in the Tower? Is the training as bad as everyone think it is?"
Shaya - February 24, 2005 09:38 AM (GMT)
(ooc: umm.. ok.. confused now.. *looks at Freyja's tittle* I'm assuming you've been raised rather rapidly in the meantime, so are you still RP-ing this as a novice, or shall I write my reply so we just continue with the other novices left? )
Freyja Annolyn - February 24, 2005 10:09 AM (GMT)
