Title: Lord_Gradient's Quoting Topic
Lord_Gradient - February 18, 2004 01:01 AM (GMT)
I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours.
If you like me, I will relish you. If you love me, I will treasure you. If you hurt me, I will destroy you.
Passion spins the plot. We are betrayed by what is false within.
Feelings are never true. They play with their mirrors.
If you do not understand my silence, you cannot understand my words.
I want to destroy something beautiful.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
The future. (some assembly required)
Hate is sadness wrapped in razors.
Choices are the hinges of destiny.
Knowledge speaks, but wisdom listens.
Hindsight is always twenty-twenty.
Sorrow is tranquility remembered in emotion.
What is pleasant belongs to dreams.
Eternity is a waste of time.
It is when so many are lonely as seem to be lonely, that it would be inexcusably selfish to be lonely alone.
The real test of a man is not how well he plays the role he has invented for himself, but how well he plays the role that destiny assigned to him.

I don't know any of them, but the first one is the only one that really has no logic to it, because if you believe in any God, you are not athiest. So even though someone believes in one God and thinks all others are flase or misguided, he is still not a athiest.
bushi-do - February 18, 2004 05:12 AM (GMT)
i like the hate one... it talked about razors and such... here's one i just thought of... its probably crap but i don't care...
hard work pays off in the end, but laziness always pays off now
Neo - February 18, 2004 05:48 AM (GMT)
You're right, it is crap.

I was reading through some of the quotes I had up on my biosite while referring to this topic, and I noticed one that caught me eye.
QUOTE
Hindsight is always twenty-twenty.
Does anyone know what this means? I've had to explain it to many people. Basically what it means is that when you look back at the events of the past you can reflect upon them perfectly because they have already happened. I know I find a lot of meaning in this quote in particular--I refer to it everytime I need to recap from current events in my life, you know...whenever I'm sitting back and just thinking to myself.
I'm just wondering if anyone else finds meaning in this quote at all.
OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 09:13 PM (GMT)
20-20 means perfect/normal eyesight.
Hindsight is reflecting on things that already happened.
So using the A = C, B = C, therefore A = B theory:
Hindsight is perfect.
Nope, don't get it.
Lord_Gradient - March 21, 2004 09:15 PM (GMT)
let me try again then...
20-20 sight = perfect, hindsight is reflecting....reflecting perfectly basically is what the quote means. I like to reflect sometimes...I think everyone does every once in a while. Considering the things you reflect upon have already happened, you can see them perfectly for what they were. Unless of course, it is still a mystery...but I do not reflect upon mysteries because I only get confused. ^_^
OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 09:19 PM (GMT)
The reason we cannot reflect truly on the events as they occur before us is because our judgment is clouded by the emotions we feel at the time.
But hindsight is still imperfect because we still feel emotions that linger from that time, albeit not as strongly but they still remain. Memory and emotion don't disappear, they just fade.
But I get the basic idea now. :lmfao:

"Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man stupid and blind in the eyes" -Mark Hoelscher
Mark's my sister's husband (my brother in-law) and sent that over AIM to me during the middle of the night. :D He's over in Kosovo right now and is going on riot control today. Wish him luck, for he needs it badly. :kodama: <--kosovo citizen

Yeah, that 20/20 quote is easy to figure out. ;)

QUOTE
Choices are the hinges of destiny.
First time I read this was before seeing The Matrix Reloaded...now, every time I read it all I think about is the theme in the Matrix movies revolving around choices and whatnot.
QUOTE
The real test of a man is not how well he plays the role he has invented for himself, but how well he plays the role that destiny assigned to him.
I think this quote would have been a perfect fit for something the Oracle could have said to Neo...:lmfao:

if ignorance is bliss, why are so many of us unhappy?
A man asked a Hopi indian, why do your people have so many songs about rain? The hopi replied because it's a scarce thing where we live. Is that why your society has so many songs about love?

Oh, and sorry to burst your bubble but...
"Early to Bed and Early to rise makes a man stupid and blind in the eyes" - Mazer Rackham (Ender's game)
Yeah, I thought that quote looked familar.
... Can I still wish him good luck in Kosovo?
Cause sharing the Ender's game coolness can't be a bad thing. :lmfao:
More enderquotes!
"Human beings didn't evolve brains in order to lie around on lakes. Killing's the first thing we learned. And a good thing we did, or we'd be dead, and the tigers would own the earth."
- Valentine to Ender ("Ender's Game" pg. 241)
"Sometimes lies are more dependable than the truth -Ender from Ender's Game
Individual human beings are all tools, that the others use to help us all survive. - Graff, Ender's Game
Nobody controls his own life, Ender. The best you can do is choose to fill the roles given you by good pople, by people who love you. - Valentine, Ender's Game

Now that I look back at it, Ender's game is a really nilhistic novel. T_T

2 greatest quotes ever:
"Ga-bu"
"Yes my lord"
From warcraft II!!!!! Oh yeah!
OnetoMany - March 24, 2004 04:20 PM (GMT)
I always thought it it sounded more like 'da-bu'
o.O
Nilhistic is one of those words that is kinda bad but kinda not. :lmfao: It makes the novel real but it makes it depressing, see?
