Title: Literary characters
Description: Aiiii, my life juice!

Myst3ryCh1x0r - March 21, 2004 04:12 AM (GMT)
Aii... (my life juice, :fufufu: )

For this class-type-thing, I've got to choose a literary character as an alias. Like, cultural icon-like literary... type... dealie... things... x.x;; (I fail at explaining.)
Examples: Ishmael, Robinson Coruso (I just know I spelled that wrong, but meh), and the Lone Ranger. (OK, so maybe the Lone Ranger is kinda TV, but... ::shrug:: )

Any suggestions? x.x;; They won't let me pick Death from Pratchett's Discworld novels, but that's probably for the best, as I'd have a hard time living up to his mighty, mighty Deathly name. ^,~

Anywhoo... Open to suggestions.

Neo.

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 04:27 AM (GMT)
lit·er·ar·y ( P ) Pronunciation Key (lt-rr)
adj.
Of, relating to, or dealing with literature: literary criticism.
Of or relating to writers or the profession of literature: literary circles.
Versed in or fond of literature or learning.

Appropriate to literature rather than everyday speech or writing.
Bookish; pedantic.

Books, Neo. Books.

Holden from Catcher in the Rye. That shouldn't be too hard to pull off ^_^ Just angst a lot and lie to be polite and you're set.

Myst3ryCh1x0r - March 21, 2004 04:42 AM (GMT)
Uhm... I haven't read that book. x.x;;

(We need an anime-sweat-drop smilie... ::scowl::)

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 04:45 AM (GMT)
Oh...

...
Well, how about Guy Montag from Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. He's a very introverted guy that's amazed by human interaction. He likes books too. The quiet rebel. :)

Myst3ryCh1x0r - March 21, 2004 04:48 AM (GMT)
Hmm... I find your idea intriguing and will add it to my List O' Possibilities.
...Sadly, all choices must be approved by my group members. x.x;; Bugger them.

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 05:03 AM (GMT)
They can't turn down Farenheit 451! I had to read that thing three times in my high school career! :pinch:

Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain?
Cute kid, very imaginative. Fun loving. If you haven't read Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn works about the same I suppose. Tom's just a more fun character to play.

Jack from Lord of the Flies? Another one loved by the high school teachers.
He's a bit violent, take charge kinda guy that gets easily set off. Plus, you could probably creep a bunch of folks out if you keep repeating "kill the pig, slit her throat."

Viola from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night
Can't resist a Shakespeare jab at intended homosexual tendencies =D Cept Viola cross dresses as a man and falls in love with the duke she serves. This other girl notices Viola likes the duke but the other girl also likes the duke so the other girl is like all confused. Then Viola's twin brother shows up and even more confusion ensues. =D It'll be cute.

Ender! Ender! Ender!

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 05:14 AM (GMT)
OMFG, HOW COULD I FORGET ENDER.

LORD GRADIENT ::hug::

Myst3ryCh1x0r - March 21, 2004 05:22 AM (GMT)
NO LORD OF THE FLIES! ::shriek!::
Gods I HATED that book! >.<

So far, I have (aside from your suggestions):

Cheshire Cat (Alice in Wonderland) - {I know, not really "classic literature," but... well, how can I pass up being a character from one of my fav. books?!}

Cyreno de Bergerac (from the play of the same name... x.x;;)

Jim Hawkins (damned if I can remember)

Don Quixote

...?

Lord_Gradient - March 21, 2004 05:25 AM (GMT)
If your other members let you, then go with the Cheshire Cat character since it is from a book you like.

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
Jim Hawkins
Jim Hawkins is the heroin Treasure Island and his adventure with murderous pirates is a thrilling tale. The pirate leader, Long John Silver summed up Jim Hawkins, "I never seen a better boy than that". Jim is of course the hero in the book. It is Jim who first finds finds the map and eventually saves everyone from the pirates. After many adventures on Treasure Island, in the end, it is Jim who returns to England with the treasure. And Jim sums up his adventure, "It was all quite scary, but I quite enjoyed it. Can I do it again?"

GO GOOGLING SKILLZ! :D

Poor Cyreno, unrequited love is so heart-breaking.

Myst3ryCh1x0r - March 21, 2004 05:29 AM (GMT)
I know. ::sniffle:: Cyrano de Bergerac is my fav. play. I wish I had super-l33t wordage skillz to offset MY ugliness... ::sigh:: Not fair.

OnetoMany - March 21, 2004 06:09 AM (GMT)
Still sucked for him in the end since...
...
...
Bah, who am I kidding, if you haven't read Cyrano yet, you're not going to.

...
BAH, just to be safe

BEYOND THIS POINT THERE BE SPOILERS!

Roxanne believes, until the very end, that Christian was the one who sent the love letters Cyrano offered. And, when she finally finds out while Cyrano is reciting on of "Christian's" letters when it is too dark to see, Cyrano dies. Fifteen years of carrying the secret. DAMN IT. To complicate things, Roxanne confeses to Cyrano that she is in love with Christian. So he can't just tell Roxanne that her dead husband wasn't really sending love letters. Christian honestly loves Roxanne too so what is one to do? But fifteen years!? DAMN IT.

END SPOILERS

I believe reading would also increase your knowledge/proficiency of the English language... :lmfao:

OnetoMany - March 24, 2004 03:44 AM (GMT)
I KNOW this to be true :D

But methinks most folks don't care for the English language and all its malformed beauty.

Lord_Gradient - March 24, 2004 04:02 AM (GMT)
Speaking of malformed beauty...did I ever mention that I like the word "malefactor"?

OnetoMany - March 24, 2004 04:15 AM (GMT)

Confuse - March 24, 2004 08:57 AM (GMT)

With our meaningless lives, we accomplish meaningless things.

Can I stop living meaninglessly?

I hope.

ganzor - March 29, 2004 05:30 AM (GMT)
You can't, we are all doomed to meaningless meaningful lives

Xavier - March 29, 2004 07:37 AM (GMT)
yep....meaningless

OnetoMany - March 30, 2004 02:02 AM (GMT)
WE GIVE OUR OWN LIVES MEANING. THAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE.

Damn it, your heads were supposed to explode when I revealed that.

Lord_Gradient - March 30, 2004 02:41 AM (GMT)
