We don’t know about the rest of you, but for the Glitter Staff, the holiday season is a time to celebrate all of our blessings, and to give back to our community in any way we can. It’s also a great time to show our appreciation for those we love. In that spirit, we have decided the fanclub ought to give Kristin a Christmas gift this year. After all, if it weren’t for her, Glitter wouldn’t exist, nobody here would know each other, and we wouldn’t have had the opportunities we’ve had to help others. So we’ve decided to combine three of Kristin’s favorite things: hearing from her fans, the Broadway community, and helping those in need.
As we’re sure you all know, the majority of Broadway shows have been dark for the last week. Unfortunately, the strike came during prime fundraising season for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BCEFA), a charity dear to both the GStaff and Kristin. BCEFA raises money during the holiday season by selling signed items, holiday ornaments, and their Carols for a Cure CD after the shows, and occasionally working with a show to offer other big-ticket items like meet-and-greets with the actors or walk-ons in the show. As a result of the strike, twenty-seven shows have been dark, many of them shows that participate in BCEFA’s fundraising efforts. We know that Glitter can’t make up for the hundreds of thousands of dollars the charity has been unable to raise this week, but we can certainly do our best to help them out!
However, we want this to be fun for all of you as well, and we saw how much fun everyone had with the Get Well Card collection we did back in September, so we thought we’d offer you the chance to do that again! For the next four weeks, we will be accepting holiday cards for Kristin at our New York City PO Box, on the condition that each card contain a donation for Broadway Cares. We don’t care if you donate five dollars or five hundred dollars, just as long as you contribute something. When all the cards are received, we will put them in a box and send them to Kristin, along with a letter saying how much we raised in her honor.
THE SPECIFICS:
We will be accepting cards from now until December 15th, which we hope gives everyone (especially our international peeps!) ample time to find (or make!) a card and send it out. We will try to get the cards to Kristin as close to Christmas as possible.
To combat their losses this season, BCEFA has created a way to create a team to funraise for them. Glitter has created a team, so that anyone who likes can donate online, via credit card. Our team page can be found
here.We will, of course, still accept checks and money orders at the PO box for those of you who can't donate online, but for those of you who CAN donate online, please do so. And don't forget to include a printout of your donation confirmation when you mail your holiday card. We won't include cards in the box for Kristin if we cannot verify their donation, so the confirmation printout is a must!
All personal checks and money orders, must be made out to BCEFA. Do NOT make out checks/MOs to Glitter, or to any individual staff members. As always, we will not be accepting cash donations, for liability reasons.
The link to join the team is at the bottom of the page, where it has the team roster. When you register, it will automatically give you a fundraising goal of $300, and won't let you go any lower. Just keep in mind that is a GOAL, not a requirement, and don't let it intimidate you!
Please send all cards to:
Glitter: The KC Fanclub
Attn: The Holiday Project
PO Box 230350
New York, NY 10023Once your card has been sent, please email coordinator.glitterstaff@gmail.com, and let us know your card is on the way! All cards will be removed from the envelopes, so we can pull your check/money order/confirmation page, and because they just look prettier in a box without their envelopes! With that in mind, please try to refrain from tucking anything else in with your card. That way, we don’t risk losing it, or having it slip out and get mixed up in the box during transport.
We hope you guys have fun with this project, and we will once again be keeping you updated with photos and totals as cards come in.
Thanks, and Happy Holidays!
