Title: The Official Glitter Birthday Project
Description: Save a life, send a smile!

As you all know by now, fanclub member kikidy (aka One of the Karens) is organizing a video hello from fanclub members for Kristin's birthday, but we wanted to provide an opportunity for those who can't submit a video clip to send their well-wishes, and of course continue our tradition of giving for a good cause in Kristin's name. How are we doing that? Well, that's two-fold answer.

First, Kristin has often said that her favorite gift to receive is the knowledge that someone has donated to charity or done a good deed in her honor, and we here at Glitter decided that for her birthday we would give you all the chance to tell her that in celebration of her birth you have not only done a good deed, you've saved a life! How, you ask? By donating $10 or more to Nothing But Nets.

Approximately every 30 seconds, one person dies from malaria, an easily preventable and treatable disease if the right precautions are taken. Unfortunately, in many countries around the world, people cannot afford the simple bed net that would protect them from the mosquitos that carry the disease. Nothing But Nets provides mosquito nets to communities in Africa, literally saving a life with each net delivered. Every $10 donated provides one bed net, along with a measles vaccination and anti-malarial drugs, to children and families in the communities that need them most. Every $10 literally saves lives.

On to part two! The generosity of her fans makes Kristin's heart smile like nothing else, but receiving cards from her fanclub members literally makes her cry (in the good way!). She LOVES cards from you guys, and has told us that they absolutely make her day. So, you guessed it, we're doing another card drive! To send a birthday card for Kristin, all you have to do is join Glitter's Nothing But Nets team (found here) and raise at least $10 (that's one net and one life saved!), or make a $10 donation to the team in general. If you are making a donation but not joining the team, you will need to send us a printout of your donation confirmation page with your birthday card so we can verify your donation. If you join the team, we will be able to see the total you've raised on our website and you do not have to mail us your confirmation, just make sure that the name you raise donations under is included on your card. If you cannot donate online, you are welcome to send a check or money order made out to United Nations Foundation with your card, and we will pass the check/MO along for you.

We have set the team goal at $400, or 40 nets -- one for each year of Kristin's life! However, we know the generosity of our members, and their donation-gathering prowess, so we hope we can raise even more!

All cards must be received at our BURBANK post office box by July 20th, so keep that in mind with your mailing! Cards will then be packaged and delivered to Kristin along with a note telling her about the Birthday Project, and an up-to-date total of all nets raised in honor of her turning the big 4-0! (So never fear -- if you raise more money after sending your card, it will be included in the grand total we give to Kristin!)
