o0Hubba0o @ good tuts submited this
The new forums are up!!! Please register there, post and have fun, once I'm done organizing them the tutorials should start rolling again. NEW FORUMS! This thread is closed any questions can be ask in the new thread at those forums, thank you for your support. Ok, here's my first tutorial I've ever made. So any comments, or you want me to clarify anything or add an image just let me know. (Done in photoshop 7) Note: Sizes and colors can substituted for whatever suites your needs. 1) Create a new document, I used a 500 x 500 for this purpose, you can always go bigger if you like, or after you're done you can trim the excess off. 2) Creat a new layer and with the pencil tool create a crosshair with a bright contrasting color with a width of 1 pixel. Hold the shift key to make straight lines. So you have somehting like this (this will help later in the tutorial): ![]() 3) Now create another new layer and select the Circle Marquee tool. ![]() 4) When you make a circle you can either select a fixed size, or hold down the shift key to make a uniformed circle. I used a 200 x 200 fixed size circle here. 5) Now go to Edit/Fill... Select Black as your fill color. 6) Once you fill it, use the arrow key's to move you're Circle selection up, in this instance I moved it up 8 times. You can move it however far you want to make a skinnier or fatter desgin, you should have this by now: ![]() 7) Now hit delete then deselect (Ctrl D) and you have your basic starting design. Delete: De-select: ![]() 8) Now duplicate your layer with the design on it, and go to Edit/Transform/Flip vertically. Here's where your crosshair layer will come in handy, use it to line them up to help keep the design symetrical. ![]() 9) Here I copied the layer two more times and lined them up. You can also Merge (Ctrl E) the first two, then copy that layer and rotate it 90 degrees. ![]() 10) From here I could keep telling you where to go, but you can take these basic steps I have here and go nuts. Take your circle marquee tool and make some bigger or smaller circles, move the selection up and to the left or right to create a differnt design, use your imagination. Remember when you make a new one to put it on a new layer. The big thing to remember with tribal art is symetry. 11) Once you get the image you like, go to Image/Trim... The default setting should work fine, and click ok. Here's what I ended up with what I've used for this tutorial only adding a couple more to it: ![]() And here's a couple other's I have made: ![]() ![]() ![]() And after adding some effects the possibilites are endless: -------------------- ![]() |

To get those lines you used alot easier, just go to view->show->grid(or hit ctrl+") then go the edit->preferences->guides grids and slices. Then change the grid to every 200 for a 400x400 document.
Nice tutorial though -------------------- |

Hey thanks a lot for signing up and leaving that tip, though unless you can move it around it might work better with a few more grid lines so you can line up different areas of the image. That's why I made those on a new layer so I can move them around, but I think I'll mess around with the grid option tonite and see how it works out. Thanks again for the tip. -------------------- ![]() |

Loved that tut, I've seen thousands of tribal tuts, and this was by far the best.
I added a radial blur with settings: 20, zoom, good, and added a little colour and got this: ![]() Ta-dah! -------------------- |

For some reason with that host your sig and your tribal show up like this:
![]() It's not just you though, it's something in my browser settings I think, because I copy the link and open it IE and it works fine. But anyways, that looks cool, I've never seen one look like that, nice job. ~Hubba~ -------------------- ![]() |

That's pretty cool, it kind of has a "Goth Tribal" feel to it.
