Title: Who is the Half Blood Prince?

Wendy - July 4, 2004 03:13 AM (GMT)
By now I'm sure most of you know that the title of the sixth book will be, "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." But who is the Half Blood Prince? Post who you think it will be here. :)

darcyblack - July 4, 2004 03:35 PM (GMT)
Well, I think that it is likely that it is Tom Riddle. I know, I know, she said that it's not Voldemort or Harry, but Tom isn't REALLY Voldemort. It's like they are two different people completely. I also think (less likely, but possible) Seamus Finnigan could be it. It is REPEATEDLY pointed out that he is a half-blood. This fact is brought up very often almost to the point of it being unusual....in my opinion.
One more even less likely theory is Hagrid, 'cause he's half giant, but I don't really like that's it.
I think that it is most likely to be Tom or Seamus.

Moony - July 4, 2004 03:45 PM (GMT)
A friend of mine suggested the Volimort may have a son somewhere.

bluejeanbaby - July 4, 2004 08:35 PM (GMT)
I have absolutely no idea. If it's a character already in existence, then I like the idea of Seamus. It's very plausible for the reasons that arianeblack pointed out. Or if JKR were to really knock our socks off, she could have it be Draco (like my sister thinks). I know what you're all thinking, "he's a pureblood," (you don't have to point that out to me, I know Draco better than just about anybody), but it could be this huge twist in the story if it were.

But JKR has a tendency to introduce a new character or one that has only bee mentioned one time before (like Sirius is mentioned in SS/PS, but he isn't talked about again until PoA because he is the PoA) in situations like this. So my educated guess it that it will either be someone completely new, or a character we've been intoduced to in a third person sense and then only briefly.

My main reason for thinking that it is Tom Riddle is that Jo said she almost named CoS, Half-Blood Prince......

BTW, if y'all want, you can just call me Ariane instead of arianeblack. Mrs. Sirius Black works too.....hee, hee...j/k :laughbounce:

Lylian_Mae - July 6, 2004 03:33 AM (GMT)
For all of you who did not read JKR's website. The Half Blood Prince is neither Harry nor Voldemort. And I think that she will hit us from left field with either at character from the Chamber of Secrets. Also on her webpage she says the name of the Defense against the dark arts teacher.

I'm finally staying with and sticking to Godric Gryffindor until any other news has been set forth or there is actual proof. There is a broader picture here....not only that but with in Godric's Hollow muggles lived there.

The only other potential person I see is Argus Filch. Argus Filch must be kept at the school for some reason or another and I think it is protection.

MARK EVANS IS nobody! JKR says it herself MARK EVANS IS NOBODY. You must have flash to get this out of her FAQ Poll.

Ainaahaiel - July 6, 2004 05:16 PM (GMT)
I like the idea of a Romulus. :eyebrows:

It could possibly Dean. JKR has his whole backstory and he really is halfblood. Since she couldn't use his story in the second one she might be using it now.

I just had a thought thinking about Godric Gryffindor. I don't think its him, because it has something to do withCoS, but N-H Nick? We don't know if he's half blood, but he might be a prince.

On another note about book six, not the hbp, but I have a theory for what the first chapter is going to be. She said that it starts with one of the original versions of the very first chapter in PS. Somewhere on her site she said that she had written about a scene with Voldermort coming to Godrics Hollow. I think she might use that chapter as a flashback or something. I think it would be very interesting.

*shocked* Ariane! Sirius is mine I tell you, mine! I'll...I'll fight you for him! I kids! I kids!

Yay another sirius Sirius lover!

I think it will be a new character. It would be very cool. I can't wait till the book comes out...not fair...

Lylian_Mae - July 7, 2004 03:14 AM (GMT)
I still think it's either Godric Gryffindor or Salazar Slytherin...wouldn't it be funny if it was Snape though.

I"m starting to also think that Filch is there for a reason just like Trelawney has been kept there for a reason...protection. HOgwarts is the safest place next to Gringotts.

ducky - July 7, 2004 03:58 AM (GMT)
yeah, I think it's either Seamus or Dean. They's both halfbloods, but then again, they're such minor charaters to the spontaneously have a huge part in the book and have the title named after. Maybe it's Neville. I'm pretty sure his dad is a full blood but his mom... she might have a bit of muggle in her *but then it wouldn't be half blood*... OH well, I bet JKR is at the computer right now laughing histerically at the fact we're all desperately trying to figure out who the HBP is, and only she knows <_<

Lylian,

"Also on her webpage she says the name of the Defense against the dark arts teacher."

Where does it say that?
Thanx.

darcyblack - July 8, 2004 05:51 AM (GMT)
First of all, Dean's not half-blood. He's muggle-born (a.k.a "mudblood"), so I really doubt that it's him. Unless, Jo's planning a major we-didn't-know-this-was-hidden-but-now-I'm-going-to-go-back-on-everything-I've-told-you-about-this-character-and-mess-with-your-trust sort of twist. That's not like her to provide information incorrectly and then change it. When she surprises us, it's usually in a situation where she just hasn't given us ALL of the information. She doesn't generally flat out lie.

Ainaahaiel:

*sigh* I guess I can share Sirius with you :D .....(mentally only, though ^_^ ) .

<sidebar> How old are you? Polling Sirius-lovers. :P

Like your flashback idea as well.

-Ariane.

bluejeanbaby - July 8, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
My sister and I had an idea about the HBP.

Ever since the title of book six was released, we've all been assuming that HBP was a bad thing. This might not be true so we've come to the conclusion that the HBP could be anybody who has two different types of blood running in their system, like Hagrid for example, who is half wizard half giant. But we don't think that Hagrid is the HBP.

We think that Lupin, who really stepped it up in OotP after Sirius "died," is the Half Blood Prince. He's part wizard and part werewolf, so he could be the HBP.

The more my sister and I talked about it and the more that I thought about it, the more plausible it became that Lupin could actually be the HBP. (I've gotten really used to writing that already.)

Just a thought,
:blue:

Moony - July 8, 2004 06:46 PM (GMT)
that's true, but i think it's a birth thing. Lupin wasn't born a werewolf, he said he got the bite when he was young. But it's a good theory abot them being like half ginat and such.

all4snuffles - July 9, 2004 12:23 PM (GMT)
ok, i have tried to post this like three times now and i m getting kinda frustrated cause it keeps logging me out!!!!

anyways...i think its going to be seamus finnegan cause if you havent noticed Seamus always has a speaking part in the movies and such , so i think she told them that he was going to play a large part in one of the books and i dont think that it counts towards he and harry fall out in the fifth book

Lylian_Mae - July 9, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
Um...well I don't think it will be Lupin on the fact that he has a brother. She says that the clues are hidden in the 'Chamber'. So that is how I get the notion that it is GG or SS. I don't think that it has anything to do with one specific person that is in the picture now.

Sorry to say, but your choices are narrow and JKR doesn't think that way. It will be something that is broad. Hence my 2 choices.

I've been reading through the Sugar Quill message board and they have very valid points.

Moony - July 12, 2004 12:26 AM (GMT)
Hmm..you might be right. You know what? I'mnot going to make anymore guesses. I am going to wait for the book and let it be a surprise.

Lylian_Mae - July 17, 2004 07:59 PM (GMT)
I'm agreeing with you on this one Gurgi...I think that JKR will give us more info on the 31st of this month...seein as how it's her's and Harry's birthdays coming up! Woohoo!

Fawkes_the _Phoenix - September 3, 2004 01:52 AM (GMT)
Well I haven't thought about it that much but I do think it might be a existing character that was metioned in the book series, and I do also think it could be Seamus. I don't think its Neville though because why did Voldemort make Harry his equal? Because he was a half-blood just like Voldemort himself as Ton Riddle, and not the pure-blood like Neville. But i caould be wrong and read it wierd so correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think that Remus had a brother. I know that Sirius had a brother (just got finished reading about the Black Family history).

Yeah I have actually, i did it a month ago, I had to do all these steps to get through everything. Is that what you did blue?

bluejeanbaby - September 10, 2004 03:50 AM (GMT)
No. I took it from a poll on Mugglenet this afternoon when I was there.

bluejeanbaby - September 10, 2004 04:41 AM (GMT)
I voted for somebody else. I have no idea and that seems like the safest bet.

Time for one WE like again. Who cares if the kids like him/her or not. I want to like the new DADA teacher.

Sirius has a brother...I swear I saw on JKs site where she said specifically Remus DOES NOT. Altho I cant get it to work..somethings up with my flash today, or Id go double check myself.

Hermes - October 26, 2004 04:30 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Sirius DID have a brother, but he died at the hand of Voldemort, remember? He got too far in, and wanted out, or something, but Voldie wouldn't hear it ... It's in OotP ...

HenriettaSwitch - July 17, 2005 02:08 PM (GMT)
Well, now we know. As there's no spoiler line in the topic, I'll say no more.

Anora - July 17, 2005 04:47 PM (GMT)
Dont we tho.......I hate it.

Wendy - July 17, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
You could kind of tell earlier in the book, before he confirmed it.

bluejeanbaby - July 17, 2005 09:29 PM (GMT)
I wasn't expecting it. I was able to figure it out earlier than the person admitted to it, but I still wasn't expecting it.

Lylian_Mae - July 20, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
betcha that JKR had a good laugh at all our pondering.

bluejeanbaby - July 20, 2005 02:43 AM (GMT)
probably. I'm not to happy with her right now though.

Harry Potter - August 5, 2005 07:08 PM (GMT)
Would it spoil the book to know who the Half-Blood Prince is?

bluejeanbaby - August 5, 2005 10:07 PM (GMT)
Yes. Who the Half-Blood Prince is is such a huge part of the book that knowing ahead of time would ruin a large aspect of it.
