GOF still 2 1/2 hour movie

As Melissa from TLC so eloquently pointed out, rumors that WB is once again looking in to making Goblet of Fire a four hour movie are patently untrue. It would throw off filming schedule by months and the script in its current form would have to double in size. The film is still slated for a November 2005 release.

My two cents: As fans, the majority of us would of course like the GOF film to be as long as possible. After all, how can WB condense a 750 page book in to a 2 1/2 hour movie without significantly changing the plot? The truth is, they can't, but it's just not practical for them to make the movie so long. A 4 hour movie would cost millions more to shoot and would not increase box office sales: it is more likely to result in lower revenues. There are simply too many people who would refuse to sit through a movie that long. It could positively affect sales when it is released on video, but only minimally, and certainly not enough to justify the loss in ticket sales and extra filming costs.

But, you say, as the books' most devoted fans, WB should bend over backwards to appease us. If they don't, we'll get...uh...really, really mad!

We've tried petitions, they don't work. Remember when they cut Oliver Wood (Sean Biggerstaff) from the third movie, and we sent them a petition with over 65,000 signatures on it begging them to reconsider? We're not a big enough of piece of the pie. And boycott the movie? Yeah, right. WB knows we're going to see it anyway, even if they filmed it with macaroni pieces and bobblehead dolls.

It's just not good business. They're going to do the best they can with the time they have, and we'll continue anticipating the movie and giving them feedback. They want to keep us happy, but we have to be realistic in our demands. We need to save our voting power for things that really matter and not freak out when they cut little things from the plot. Like the Dursleys, for example. Sure I would have liked to see them in GOF, but they weren't essential to the story and I can understand why they were axed.

I completely agree. It would have been nice to have seen Oliver Wood in PoA though and the Dursley's always help add a bit of comedy to the movies.

Yep, but we give up what we must in order to have the important things in the movies.

bluejeanbaby - September 10, 2004 04:42 AM (GMT)
Yeah well, we gave up Oliver Wood and still had no explanation as to who the Marauder's were, so that theory is slightly flawed, but I get what you're saying.

Yep, I was talking to a customer about that yesterday.
It annoys me when ppl act like they know what they are talkin' about regarding HP, but really have no clue......if you don't know what you are talkin' about......don't act like you do!

bluejeanbaby - September 11, 2004 12:48 AM (GMT)
Amen sister! My friend, who loves the movies, but has never read a single page of the books, thinks that it's really cool that JKR named Sirius and made him a dog in anamagi form, after that radio company. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!!!!!!!!

Yep, a customer commented on the HP buttons that I wear on my apron and asked to see if we carry a specific piece of HP merch. Well, we didn't, but this opened up the HP line of conversation. She told me how much she loved HP and how she was a huge fan. We started talkin' about PoA and she, the HUGE HP "fan", said the following:
"Yeah, I liked the new movie, but I didn't like the new actor playing the old man.....whats the old guy's name?"

I just stared at her. Old guy. Yeah. Ok.

bluejeanbaby - September 13, 2004 12:34 AM (GMT)
OMG!! I love it when "big fans" do that!! If you're a big fan, you'd know who that "old guy" was and the names of the actors who played him in both the movies.

Even low to average fans know that stuff!!!! At the VERY least, they know character names!

bluejeanbaby - September 15, 2004 12:08 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Here's one that's even better than your old guy story.

About two weeks ago, I was wearing my Slytherin shirt at work and a customer asked if it was something from Harry Potter. I told her that yes it was and that I was a big fan (I said this with a great deal of pride as always.) She says, I just saw the new one, it was a really good. That kid with the dark hair and glasses was really good. What's his name, again? Daniel Radcliffe. No, that's not it. I meant, what's his character's name? *Blue slaps forhead and walks away* This is a REAL story. Som people just don't deserve to breathe.

Hey.. Darcy that wasnt me was it?

WHO ON EARTH DOESNT KNOW/REMEMBER DUMBLEDORE'S NAME?!?! Or Harry's for that matter *rolls eyes* thats freaking crazy! now I dont remember that actors name.. well untill now.. but like those are just actors and actresses..
Im sorry but the movies are just not as important as the books I think. It ruins the whole fantasy of the books..

There are some things that they can cut out..

Im thinking maybe some of the QWC half time shows and like possibly when Harry was finding out/training of the three tasks and the waiting for the two competeing schools...just some of the less important parts.. I dunno..
but they should atleast have 3 to 3 1/2 hours... and no more cutting out any characters were going to be loseing two in the movie and maybe more in the books. Its only fair to keep them together for as long as we can..

I once ment someone who didn't know what the third movie was actually called. They called it the "Prisoner of Alcatraz" or something.

Hey!!! If y'all still plan to come to Texas for the movie, then we need to plan to go see it IMAX-style!!!!

From MuggleNet:

GOF coming to Imax theaters

Imax corporation and Warner Bros. are to announce that Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire will be shown on Imax screens on November 18, the same time the movie will be presented in conventional theaters. This is the second time a Harry Potter movie has been shown on Imax screens with POA last summer becoming one of Imax's highest-grossing digitally remastered movies.
