Title: Release Date
bluejeanbaby - November 22, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
This is taken from
Mugglenet.HBP publication date rumors: June 2005
Someone in a position to know (whose name we obviously can't reveal) has given us word that Scholastic is planning for a mid-June 2005 release for book six, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. More specifically, they are considering June 11th and June 18th - both Saturdays.
As always, treat this as a rumor until we can get real confirmation, which in this case will most likely come from JK Rowling's official site.
My two cents: Call it wishful thinking, this time frame seems pretty logical to me. Consider: a June 2005 release would be 2 years after book 5 - ample time to finish a story that is supposed to be significantly less than OOTP (many estimates have it at half the length). She wrote GOF in 1 year, if you remember, and had to re-write half the book because of a gaping plot hole. Granted, that was under different circumstances, but it just shows that we shouldn't underestimate her. It took JKR 3 years to write the monster that is OOTP and that was with extremely long breaks from writing. Jo does have a baby due this spring, but she has said repeatedly that it will not delay the book's release.
At the Edinburgh Book Festival last August (3 1/2 months ago) she said she was more than half-way done.
I guess all we can do at this point is speculate and hope, but I'm optimistic.
Edit: Our editors have just posted an editorial with HBP release date analysis which was written just before this news post.
If you want to read the editorial, go to Mugglenet and scan down about half the page. The link is given within this article.

Wow, that would be great! *Crosses fingers*
Mrs Hermione Potter* - November 27, 2004 12:34 PM (GMT)
That would be so awesome if that was true. But somehow I think that it will take a lot longer than that, I mean it took like 2 years for the last book to be released.I don't think even JK Rowling will finish it by then.Sorry!
bluejeanbaby - November 27, 2004 11:22 PM (GMT)
The newest update from Mugglenet said that this rumor was false. Bummer.
Wendy - November 28, 2004 08:49 PM (GMT)
Dang, I got my hopes up and everything. *pouts*
bluejeanbaby - November 29, 2004 04:15 PM (GMT)
Well, I wouldn't let those hopes go just yet Wendy. According to Mugglenet.com, now, the newest rumors are that we should be expecting, as soon as January 2005, an announcemnet from JKR as to when HBP will be released. :blue:
If you go to
Mugglenet and scroll down a bit, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about.

Here's a gift from Ms. JKR herself.
According to JKR's site, Book 6 is finished and we should have a publication date soon. Here's a screenshot someone took from her site (the Do Not Disturb sign is back up now):

I'm going to be calling my friend who works at our local B&N to reserve copies, one for me and one for my sis. I might even get a discount if he does it for me. Maybe even get it early? Probably not, but that thought makes me happy!!

Anora - December 22, 2004 07:44 AM (GMT)
Blue, Darcy..we should still maybe plan for a meet up for this date.......what do you think? As upsidedown as my life is right now..I cant say anything for certain......but would LOVE to consider it an option!~
Lylian_Mae - December 22, 2004 05:38 PM (GMT)
That's good! I want to go to the midnight relase parties! I'm making sure my outfit is ready by getting some friends to help with my robe. I just gotta go and buy the pattern and take some measurements! Woohoo!
Who is also going to dress up?
bluejeanbaby - December 22, 2004 10:51 PM (GMT)
I'm going to dress up.
Anora, I think that a meet-up would be better left to GoF movie release. For one, it gives us all more time to save up money, make plans, etc. Not to mention that the 16th is the day before my dad's 50th birthday. It's a big birthday, I should be there.
Lylian_Mae - January 25, 2005 07:12 AM (GMT)
Guess what! It's going to be 672 pages long. And the deluxe version is 704 pages. :D
Mugglenet.com has the full scoop!
bluejeanbaby - March 18, 2005 04:24 PM (GMT)
Lyl, we need to make plans and reserve copies of our books. Do we still want to go to Border's or to Barnes and Noble. If we reserve our books now at B&N, we save 20%. Just let me know.

Lylian_Mae - March 25, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
I've got mine set for the Borders in El Cajon. They give you 40% off for a pre order. They work with Amazon for all their books and stuff. So they send the deal down to us as well. I should be here for the release.

This is a little OT here, but I got to thinkin' about it while reading Blue's post on here from Dec. 22.
Are y'all still interested in trying to meet up in Nov for the movie release????
bluejeanbaby - April 3, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
Hell yes! I'll save up sick days to come out there (wherever there is) to do that. And I've talked to Laz, who says that she is interested as well.
